Release Date: 2000 | Tracklist

This is MdO’s fourth album called, FinisTerra, it has 20 songs and its an incredible audiable journey. This is an hour fourtyeight minutes of pure brilliance and talent coming from one of my favorite bands, MAGO DE OZ, everything from the opening words of a little kid in prologo to the closing note on Finisterra is just absoullutelly brilliant, the album starts with a little kid saying, basically, that “the human is the worst animal out of all”, he talks then some flutes and the drums come in to fade out the song.

Next comes the 8 minute monster track SATANIA, it starts pretty fast with double bass. This is one of my favorite songs out of all, it has a lot of tempo changes, and a lot of guitar/violin/bass/flute solos, sometimes they mix a guitar and a violin solo to make it even more better, the vocals are very strong. from the high pitched scream at the beggining, to the last note he hits at the end, its all good, excellent starter track.....4.5/5

Then after a brief silence comes in a very fast guitar riff to welcome the next track LA CRUZ DEL SANTIAGO, this is another excellent track, its is a fast paced song, with an amazing bridge, that is one of my favorite things about the song, the bridge, the vocals are again catchy and well sanged, the solo is excellent, as always. It has also a very “relaxing” flute solo at the end, and the song fades out to greet the next track...4.5/5

Next is one of the most known songs from this album LA DANZA DEL FUEGO, this is a tempo change from the previous songs, it is very slow and kind of sad at the beggining but in the middle the song speeds up a little, specifically in the chorus, where the violins completelly dominate this parts of the song. This isnt my favorite song, it bored me after a few listens, but nontheless, this is a good track, specially for the violins, the vocals are ok, nothing really special but he gives that sad feel to the song, wich is, good...3.5/5

The next track is another known song from this guys: HASTA QUE EL CUERPO AGUANTE. This song describes musicians as, horny/cool little bastards hahaha, the song is pretty good since the beggining where the violin riff comes in and it just blows your mind, after that violin riff, the bass lines dominate for a while until the guitars kick in to carry on with the song, the vocals are awesome in this track, as well as the guitar and the violin solos, the just mix well together, overall great track....4/5

After a brief silence, you hear some awesome bass lines to welcome the next track: EL SEÑOR DE LOS GRAMILLOS, wich basically talks about finding your personal you, and by doing this you need to face the loneliness of the journey and get rid of all the bad things in your way, temptations and all sort of stuff.....well this song is kinda average, the song starts with the bass lines, and some guitar riffs to make way to the vocals, in this case, they are pretty good, altough i dont like a lot this track, the vocals are very good, but i dont know theres just something about this track that doesnt “fit”, the song has a violin solo at the middle wich is pretty standard for the talent that the violinist has, after that solo comes in another one, the guitar solo, it is the same one from the violin but played on the guitar, the song fades out with the intro bass lines.....3/5

POLLA DURA NO CREE EN DIOS is a good listeneable song, nothing special but good song overall, is starts with some strange acoustic riffs, they are catchy as hell, as well as the vocals, the guitars are palm-muted. The lyrics are normal MdO lyrics, one of the highlights could be the bass lines at the middle of the song, where he makes this strong noises that fit awesomelly the song, overall a good track.....3.5/5

Again a brief silence and you hear some beautifull bass lines just to make way for the relaxing violin, and the vocalist starts doing his thing. MAITE ZAITUT is one of the slowest tracks in the album, but overall its one of my favorites, the lyrics are the love type lyrics, wich blend in lovely with the music, the song again fades out with the intro bass lines......5/5

So on comes the second slow track of the album, and again, one of my favorites: DUERME..., this song talks about a girl who sings the lyrics to her just born child, the lyrics are beautiful, and so is the music behind it, this is definetely on the standout tracks, the solo is great, it fits in perfectly with the rest of the music, the song fades out to give birth to another slow track.....5/5

As i said earlier, the third slow track is: ES HORA DE MARCHAR, another brilliant track from these guys, and it had to be a slow one, the songs is driven by the piano from start to finish, no drums, no guitar, just piano and some flutes/violins at the end of the song to make it a MdO epic song. The song basically says how death just makes way to a new life, it trully is a beautifull song, one of my favorites.....50/5

After that brilliant track, comes in another known song, FIESTA PAGANA, it starts with a slow violin riff that just keeps speeding up until the drums and electric guitar come in to make it a standout track, the vocals are a highlight here, also the guitar solo is freakin fast and very well done, this is a very typical song from these guys, overall a very good track....4/5

Another brief moment of silence and then you hear the piano and the flutes making a veeeeeeeery relaxing atmosphere for these track: EL QUE QUIERA ENTENDER QUE ENTIENDAthis song basically talks about just being yourself and not giving a *** about what other people say about you, it trully is another brilliant song from these fine musicians, the song is piano driven, and it has a little piano solo at the end to make the song more awesome, and excellent track......4.5/5

You hear some guitar and some bass lines in the background, shortly a little guitar solo comes in to make way to a great track: LOS RENGLONES TORCIDOS DE DIOS, a beautifull intro with definetelly some maiden influences in the in guitar riffs, you hear some violin to lead some parts of the song when the vocalist shuts up and stops singing. Actually the vocals are good as usual, the chorus is very catchy as well as the solo, wich offers some tapping, and makes way for another violin solo, awesome stuff here, excellent track......4/5

Right after the last screams from the vocalist the next song kicks in LA DAMA DEL AMANECER, wich offers some of the best vocal work on this album, as well as one of my favorite violin riffs, this song is just violin driven all the way, with the guitars making a perfect work on the background and solos, wich are pretty standard for the other ones that they have made. This song also offers a sweet flute solo, very awesome stuff there, incredible song......4.5/5

After that brilliant piece of work, comes in one of the worst tracks IMO, TRES TRISTES TIGRES, i dare you to say the title track really fast hahahaha, its kinda difficult, specially if you dont speak spanish, but anyways, this song starts with the piano and it basically stays that way all the way, there are some violin contributions but mainly its pure piano, the song is another slow one, but differently from the other ones, this one isnt that great, i usually skip these one.....2.5/5

Next up is the only intrumental song in the album, A COSTA DA MORTE, this is a beautiful piece of work, it starts with the acoutic guitars, the violin joins in to make it a brilliant track, this is the type of track you would want to hear if you want to go to sleep, altough the track is definetelly not boring it is kind of slow the first 2 minutes, but then it gradually speeds up to make it a must have......5/5

After that instrumental track you are greeted with a very heavy riff and a great scream by the vocalist to welcome the next brilliant track, LA SANTA COMPAÑA, this is one of my favorites, it is one of the heaviest songs in here, it has a lot of violin driven parts but it remains quite heavy in the background, the bridge is quite funny for me, it is great but it has a different rythim than anything out there, the song speeds up MORE at the end to make it a very headbangable song, it fades out with the main riff.......5/5

Next is one of the strangest tracks ive heard by mago, CONXURO, it starts with a “witch” saying a type of spell, and then the guitar and bass join in to keep the same riff the whole way, i wouldnt exactlly call this a song, its very strange.....1/5

The next track is awesome live, ASTAROTH, it starts with a devil like riff, a scary song here, the vocalist makes a “frightning” scream to lead the whole song with the excellent vocal work, and an awesome flute riff to make a chilly atmosphere around the song, at the middle of the song, female vocals comes in, that is my favorite part of the song, because the singing of the girl is short but neat, and also are the male vocals, the solo is brilliant and the song ends nearly after the solo.....4/5

And so we reach the longest and last track on the album, [FINISTERRA[/b], this is a 15 minute song full of tempo changes, different vocalists, violin/bass/flute guitar solos, and all i can say about this song is.....BRILLIANT......5/5

I don't think it mentions anywhere in the review that Finisterra is a concept album. The concept itself is very reminiscent to Rush's 2112. Very good album, though I disagree about Requiem; it's an amazing song with great riffs.

They're not that bad ,trust me ,this come from a guy that has spanish as a native language .

Only POLLA DURA NO CREE EN DIOS and EL SEÑOR DE LOS GRAMILLOS are abysmal

Well (I'm from Galicia, Spain ;]), for me the only one that could be saved is "La cruz de Santiago", if we avoid the "sírvete de magia, sírvete del tarot" part. The rest of the lyrics seem quite sub-par to me. "Polla Dura" is funny, at least...
