Review Summary: A beautiful soundtrack that should not be forgotten.
Playing a video game is an adventure every time. It is more than just a story; a video game whisks you away into a new world, one that you can explore and be an active ingredient in. Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion promised just that, a gorgeous world to roam free in, and roam free I did. I spent a mini life in that game, running through endless grassy meadows, caves, villages, and castles to complete quest after quest after quest. It is impossible to forget the experience I had playing the game, and its respective soundtrack is a large part of the reason why.
Wherever I went, the music was with me. It was in all corners of the world, and it never grew tiresome. The orchestral music breathed life into the game’s surroundings, and did so gently. This was not a bombastic soundtrack, it was quite the opposite: warm, colorful, peaceful, minimalistic, and the effect was lulling. Jeremy Soule’s soundtrack has a whimsical, magical quality about it that perfectly captures the essence of the world and the excited feeling of the starry eyed player as they run through it. It is a beautiful, easy-on-the-ears soundtrack that one can enjoy whether they are playing the game or not. However, if someone has played the game before, when they listen to its soundtrack, they can still see Oblivion’s painted hills, untouched by time, and the vision is lovely.
My experience with Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion is one that continues today thanks to its elegant soundtrack. I can re-experience it whenever I turn on the music, a flood of positive memories and feelings come flowing back. While other game soundtracks can produce similar effects, this one is different - Jeremy Soule has created something truly special. The Oblivion Soundtrack is in a league of its own and provides a fantastic listening experience. From beginning to end the music tells a story, it conjures a world of its own, and ultimately Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Soundtrack is one of the most memorable game soundtracks I have ever heard.
