Review Summary: Hung between two trees, by hands and feet was the skin of my child…pulled taught and hardened by the cold blustery winter. As I approached, the sun shone from behind creating the warmest glow I have ever seen.

There are many kinds of music - emotional, brooding, sludgy, upbeat, downbeat...so basically a lot of different s**t. Well, most of people listen to it, because it takes away from the everyday reality and awareness. Others, because it triggers the release of some hormones in their brains, mostly, adrenaline, if we are speaking about aggressive music. Then there is a peculiar minority of people, who choose music, that does completely the opposite of the first aforementioned effect. They choose music that serves as a reminder and a temporary apmplifier of all the bitter aspects of their ongoing life, and often overloads the senses, evoking a condition called "Reality choke", when despair, fear and all the negative emotions completely overwhelm the common sense, further motivation and will of life.

"In Disgust" was a grind / powerviolence band formed back in 2006, San Jose, California. In its short life-span, "In Disgust" has released only one LP, namely, "Reality Choke". For a short-lived band in an overpopulated grind scene, they have left quite a mark I must say. This LP consists of 11 minutes of Insanely fast and vicious grindcore assault, incorporating everything what makes the genre worthwhile. You got your irreplaceable, short, death metal influenced passages, complemented with some tasty, chaotic hardcore riffs. You got your mix of growling low end barks and head splitting shrieks atop of battering riffs and blasts. D-beat drenched catchiness and stop start stabbery and of course, not forgetting Nasum, Insect Warfare and Excruciating Terror-esque moments.
Story-wise, "Reality Choke" represents and mirrors the hateful, bitter, grim and remorseless side of life. Everyone has it, but, in concentrated form, most of us hide it behind a wall of untruth, illusions, fake happiness and stories of progress. And when it spontaneously erupts - oh, what a mess it creates. For some this release might be a horrifying experience, as it gets you the closest to that moment of sudden oblivion. This might be the music, that rages on the other side - the unhappy, dark side, hell, it might even be a part of the soundtrack.

This is extreme metal at its most fierce and asphyxiant. There are no progressive, jazzy s**t interludes or mind-bending technicality just for the sake of it. These will probably be the most intense 11 minutes of your life and most likely the closest to loosing virginity for some. So get this release if you dare, and prepare to "Reality Choke".
