Defeated Sanity are a 5 piece Brutal technical death metal band from Germany. The band was founded in 1996 when guitarist Wolfgang Teske wanted to form a technical death metal band, with compositions that were extremely difficult to play.

The lineup for Psalms Of The Moribund is:

Jens Staschel - Vocalas
Wolfgang Teske - Guitar
Christian Kuehn - Guitar
Jacob Schmidt(from Cerebic Turmoil) - Bass
Lille Gruber - Drums

Defeated Sanity plays a vicious brand of Brutal Technical Death Metal, infusing slam riffs into their superly crafted technical compositions on "Psalms Of The Moribund", their sophmore full length released by my favorite U.K. label Grindethic Records. While their first full length "Prelude To The Tragedy" seemed at times to have some many tech riffs that after the first 4 songs they began to start to sound alike. With "Psalms" when you think they are going to go into a over the top, finger splitting riff, Df insteads slams down some head banging inducing riffs reminiscent of Devourment.

Vocalist Jens definetely knows what he is doing when it comes to guttural death vocals, he reminds of the late Wayne Knupp at times, so a solid perforamce on his part.Lille is a beast on the drumset pounding it into submission on this record, whether it be blast beats or double bass fills, A+ performance on his part. Now onto the guitars, Wolfgang, and Christian definetely know their way around the fretboard, while they have toned down the technicality on this release it doesn't mean they don't throw in numerous mind melting riffs every now and then, if your a fan of decrepit birth, Odoious Mortem, then you will love the guitar work on this album. One the biggest things I like about this record is that the bass is audible, even having several fills, it is very refreshing to know that there is actually some bands that want there bassist to be part of the music.

There are numerous Pros to this album, one being the excellent guitar work throughout, great vocal performance, drums sound amazing, bass is audible, and the best part of this album is that all the songs seem to go into the next! Now to the cons, the first is that I wish some of the technical parts were more audible, but that what you get when it comes to death metal production, also at times the album seems to drag along.

If have never listened to Technical death metal, and are interested in it, this is not your album, but if you are a death head, then you MUST pick this wonderful album up as soon as possible.

Good, succinct review; a friend recommended these guys so I might check them out, though I wasn't overawed by the material I have heard.

Not a bad review, a little more detail would be better though. I'll vote.

Yeah, pretty decent review. What bands would they best be compared to? Are we talking technical death metal in the vein of Necrophagist?

I would compare them to Gorgasm, Deeds Of Flesh, Inherit Disease, and bands like that.If you are a fan of the more technical riffs I recommend to pick up their first album "Prelude To The Tragedy"

He's referring to Mike's rating of 1.5, which I'm going to guess is because mixing tech metal and brutal death sounds hilarious.

These guys are like THE premiere brutal death band right now so if you don't like the genre as a whole (or if you're a pussy) I can understand where you're coming from; otherwise this is stellar. This Message Edited On 02.21.09

it doesn't take a genius to figure out there isn't much difference between any of the songs. oh and also my ipod doesn't scrobble most of the time, so way to go with making an invalid assumption
