Review Summary: Absolutely fantastic. Rough, raw post punk for the soul.

Have you ever sat down and wondered "what would it sound like if Joy Division, The Misfits and Ghost decided to collaborate and record a post rock record?". Me neither, but in a stunning twist the answer to a question that absolutely no on asked is completely stunning. Beastmilk, hailing from Helsinki is soon to release their first full length LP (Climax); today we are discussing their 2nd EP Use Your Deluge. Equal parts dreamy, doom flavored post rock mixed with upbeat 70's punk this really is music in a class of it's own.

Vocalist Kvost sounds for all to hear like a slightly dirtier version of Glenn Danzig in his prime. Black metal fans may know him from his work with Code, Dødheimsgard and Decrepit Spectre. Keep in mind, this is a different beast, while Beastmilk keeps the ambient discordance of black metal close to their heart there are no harsh vocals here. Along for the trip are guitarist Goatspeed, bassist Arino and drummer Paile. The music here is deceivingly complicated; every play through I was discovering different bits and pieces of each song. The bass drums and vocals are all mixed heavily in the forefront, leaving the guitars and ambient distortion to complete the soundscape. It works, and it works extremely well. Lying beneath the excellent bass and drum work is a tonne of masterful guitar work and post rock chord progression, buried just deeply enough to draw the listener in.

It's a rather short excursion into the bands sound; four tracks clocking in at less than 15 minutes. It is worth you while to give this a listen. Judging from the tracks here, and the bands initial two track demo their full length LP is looking to be spectacular.

Band name makes me think of Beast Wars and Breast Milk; two things I liked as a little tike.

I've only heard their new track on pitchfork, which was really good. I'll check this out.

Really psyched for the new album to come out. 11/19 is the date according to their Facebook page.
