Clutch (Gearheads Unite!)

How many people have heard of this band? They seem to be pretty popular in the underground scene, and they've even had some radio play. Still, they are generally unknown.

For those of you who don't know who they are, Clutch is a band from Maryland. Formed in 1991, they are comprised of Neil Fallon (Vocals and guitar), Tim Sult (Guitar), Dan Maines (Bass), Jean-Paul Gaster (Drums), and following the release of Robot Hive/Exodus, Mick Schauer (Keyboards).

Their music is a combination of stoner metal, blues/southern rock, some funk elements, and a heavy dose of good ol' rock and roll. Their sound is tight and unique, and they have good lyrics. Neil's lyrics are intelligent, playing on words and making references to mythology, religion, history, and popular culture. Often times making for some good humor.

I highly suggest that whoever hasn't heard Clutch before check out their CD Blast Tyrant or Robot Hive/Exodus.

Still, I wonder how a band as talented as these guys isn't better known.
