Any other Stoner/Doom metal fans?

Come on, there has to be more than one stoner rock fan on this site.

Favorite bands:

Kyuss, High on Fire, Clutch, Neurosis...

There's more I can think of, but I'm too spaced out right now, but if you're a fan of the music, discuss.

Black Sabbath...

I love listening to them while im high

btw what passes for doom and stoner metal?

Shred Danson 03-01-2005 02:19 PM

High on Fire is pretty doom-ish.

Burdcheese 03-01-2005 02:20 PM

A friend of mine introduced me to Kyuss a few weeks ago

Great band.

Shred Danson 03-01-2005 02:22 PM

Yeah, I found out about Kyuss because they jammed frequently in my area. Josh Homme went to my high school, and the CD "Welcome to Sy Valley" is in reference to an unincorporated land that is near where I live called (what do ya know) Sky Valley.

Deathcrush 03-01-2005 02:31 PM

I am not too deep into the genres, but the more well known bands that I like are Kyuss, Electric Wizard, Weedeater, My Dying Bride and Anethema.

Jondur 03-02-2005 04:31 AM

OK - for starters there is no such thing as stoner doom. There is stoner and there is doom. They are very different.

Doom:

St Vitus
Solstice
Penance
Trouble
Candlemass
While Heaven Wept
Revelation

So yes I love doom metal. It is the music of gods. Right now I am listening to to Penance and it is making me very happy indeed.

Stoner is a pile of ****e.

(disclaimer: Kyuss are ok. As are Masters of Reality)

ArcLite 03-02-2005 04:33 AM

I'm not really into doom much other than Sabbath, but I'm a big Clutch fan.

RideTheSpiral 03-02-2005 05:13 AM

Candlemass are awesome.

NJMetalMeister 03-02-2005 05:15 AM

yes, candlemass are awesome, and the new novembers doom album is beyond excellent. So everyone should go get a copy of that right now if you are into doom.

3rdplanet 03-02-2005 05:38 AM

I'm a Kyuss fan.

Only really know a tiny bit about Doom, but I like what I have heard.

Jondur 03-02-2005 05:51 AM

Doom education:

Albums you must own:

Candlemass - Epicus Doomicus Metallicus, Nightfall
Revelation - Yet So Far
St Vitus - V
Solstice - New Dark Age
Solitude Aeturnus - Through The Darkest Hour
Trouble - The Skull

Hevy Tred 03-02-2005 06:50 AM

I love candlemass and My Dying Bride.

deadvoodoodoll 03-02-2005 07:45 AM

doom metal is great.
i know this will probably sound dumb. but what the hell is stoner rock? is it bands that stoners listen to or are the band members stoners? someone told me pink floyd was stoner rock, but they also said primus was to. both band are bad ***(in my opinion anways) but they don't sound alike

the2stranger 03-02-2005 07:56 AM

Stoner rock is happy, clappy, groovy music. It often has a "southern" feel to it. Check out Kyuss fora text book example.

Jondur 03-02-2005 08:26 AM

Here's some doom: http://deimos.curious.be/~FinalChapter/Finalchapter/samples/gos.mp3

And some stoner:
http://www.stonerrock.com/jukebox/Kyuss-One_Inch_Man.mp3

One is metal. One isn't.
