Tom Araya's Voice

In my 3 years of Slayer listening, i've always weighed Slayer's riffs very heavily when considering their uniqueness and greatness.

But i've recently noticed that Tom Araya is at the top of his class. His voice suits the music perfectly. And even better, nobody sounds like him. Imagine if Slayer had some random cookie monster vocalist. They'de be half the band they are today. We need to raise our glasses and give a toast to this pioneer of metal, and true metal vocalist. We love you Tom, you ****in rule.

br3ad_man 11-01-2004 01:31 AM

Does anyone else thinks he almost sounds like he's rapping on Reign In Blood (only Slayer album I have)?

xizoesira 11-01-2004 02:17 AM

The Angel of Death wail has always been a favorite.

Bloodlust 11-01-2004 02:25 AM

I think hell awaits has faster lyrics than reign in blood

ThrashMaster27 11-01-2004 02:46 AM

He's funny on Show No Mercy (the song) him trying to keep up with the main riff. He's a great singer though, he does indeed suit the music. Necrophobic I don't know how he keeps up with.

When Slayer proforms live does anyone else not hear the bass?? I'm not saying Tom Araya can't play bass but live I can't or barely even hear the bass sometimes and see no bass amps

BuddyBigsby 11-01-2004 03:17 AM

The singer from The Blinding Light reminds me a lot of Tom Araya.

Take a listen, I think they have a song or two at www.deathwishinc.com

It's a nice level. I'm sure if you took the bass away, it would make a big change.

**** right man, you msut have read that interview with them saying they don't like death metal becaues of the cookie monster vocals.
Well done, you're absolutly right, Slayer are what they are thanks to Tom's vocals, well not only that but it contributes alot to them, I'd say that vocal's are what seperates alot of bands because most voices are unique.

Yeah same, I rarly hear them, but it's jsut because the guitar is just so loud, but I can hear the bass on the albums though, and what's a little wierd is that Tom is left handed.

 Especially on Jesus Saves.

Paranoidd 11-01-2004 07:20 AM

^^^

I barely ever hear his bass playing, either.

I agree with the guy that said dittohead. Those lyrics are CRAZY FAST!

murder mayhem anarchy now are all done legally MASTER MIND YOUR KILLING SPREE!

however playing bass and singing at the same time could be difficult. slayer are awesome though lets not forget the lyrics behind the singing (thanks to a mr jeff hennamen, who also slams down awesome riffs on the guitar)

infest800 11-01-2004 08:46 AM

He didnt seem to have any bass amps on the unholly aliance tour, but i'm pretty sure i heard some bass.
And to the guy/girl who said he was left handed I'm left handed and i play a normal (right handed) guitar, so he probably does the same.

PermanentlyBanned 11-01-2004 08:52 AM

when i saw him he was playing a right handed guitar.....

LordDargon 11-01-2004 09:38 AM

Yeah, he is in top form in the 80's, but his recent vocals suck. Check out his vocals on any recent DVD and compare them with the great performance from the Decade of Aggression live recording.

HappyMarshmellow 11-01-2004 09:42 AM

If my audition with Replica goes well, I'll be covering Raining Blood.

My voice is nothing like Tom Araya's though, especially not when using the inhaling method. Think Venom or Celtic Frost when exhaled, and Suffocation when inhaled.

.Realm.of.Chaos. 11-01-2004 09:53 AM

When I watched War at the Warfield (Slayers Live DVD), I was very disapointed because the vocals could have been a lot stronger then they were, anyone else agree?

you can hardly hear the bass but if you took it out youd notice it was gone

*he will decide who lives or dies

F*?>^"G HELL!

CreepingBlack 11-01-2004 10:14 AM

fastest vocals for Tom? Well, Necrophobic OR Jesus Saves. Necrophobic is like 249 beats per minute.

emo_sucks 11-01-2004 10:15 AM

dittohead and jesus saves are insane speed

Yeah, the vocals weren't too great on the dvd. He did a lot better when I saw them live.

I am the biggest Hanneman fan here, but i have to admit that Kerry did some great lyrics& melody writing back in the 80's. Hell Awaits has great lyrics and melody.

TTTSNB 11-01-2004 01:16 PM

Hes a pretty awesome singer, he has his own style. He can both sing very fast, and he can scream so ****ing high that you think your ears are gonna burst. I like him because he sounds unique. Another guy in this regard is Max Cavalera, who also has his own style.

Slayer666 11-05-2004 11:50 PM

Slayer is just plain crazy. Lyrics and music are awesome as ****

Bongo Extraordinaire 11-05-2004 11:53 PM

He is a great singer from Hell Awaits onwards, prior to that he wasn't anything amazing

Ir0n_mE 11-06-2004 12:35 AM

Everything about Slayer is great.

Bradphyrd 11-06-2004 12:57 AM

Tom's voice really does suit the music of slayer very well. And being a bass player, I agree that slayer's bass playing could be better.

I love that wail so much.

Anyway, I thought Tom's voice went out for a while? Is it back?
