Yeah, I've tried it twice and my body really didn't like it. When I could stay mobile it was cool, but no matter how I sliced it there was no way to go but down stopping-wise. It was after I threw my right arm (and aggravated an old skiing injury) that I decided enough was enough. Who knows, I may have a go at it again but I really like having a functional and not broken body if I can help it.

3-hour physics midterm in a few hours. Effin' A. Still have homework to do for a few classes afterward too.
On the plus side, a guy is meeting me on campus to buy my wireless system. Cha-ching! |
man. I'm in the process of moving, packing and tossing all the junk out of my house right now because it sold. So I just dismantled my drum kit, unplugged the PA (combination of two of them) and piled all my music shit up in the living room, guitars not included.
It was then that I truly realized how much music gear I have and how heavy it can get. :| |

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GSk6On8xK3E hey people, playing a bit of guitar nowadays
|
What's the tuning? Sounds nice, I like the little rhythmic flourishes. Doing any singing?
|
Dilemma: Do I buy a beginner 3/4 upright bass for $500 locally, or do I attempt to build a 4/4 electric upright this summer (like the NS Wav basses)?
|
proly getting a mim jazz soon. i've read that some of htem have same sized pickups and thus hum problems, so that's kinda shitty, but oh well what can you expect
|
Mine doesn't hum too bad, and it's got some wicked high end. but that's about it really. Although it does play like a beast and all in all isn't too bad a bass, worth what I paid for it.
|
I just agreed to a deal with a dude. $275. Not too shabby. Will post pics proly
|
Yeah man, 275 is a pretty solid price. congrats.

Not quite. Up until 2001 (IIRC), MIM Jazz basses had the same sized neck and bridge pickups. Because the poles don't line up as well with the strings on the bridge pickup (hence the reason it's supposed to be a larger size), and because the bridge pickup was wound to the same DC resistance as the neck pickup, output is slightly lessened near the bridge. Changing pickup height can accommodate for this enough to make the issue moot. The issue with hum (60Hz/50Hz hum) is prevalent among all single coils, and with both pickups on full + a good shielding job (a "must" in any bass, btw), the hum is completely eliminated. The pickups act as a humbucker when they are on full. |

Buy the $500 one, then you can play on it straight away. Building an electric upright might take ages and isn't even guaranteed to be playable at the end of it. |

Tuning is D A B F# A E Trying to write some lyrics and construct the songs better before I sing them. But yeah i mess around. |
That's a rather interesting tuning. I think I need to pull out the acoustic now.
|
yeh nice major 7 sound, F A C G C E cool aswell
|

Trying to write some lyrics and construct the songs better before I sing them. But yeah i mess around.[/QUOTE] That is an interesting tuning, open strings make a major chord with the 2 and 6 added on for colour, pretty tasty easy-shape strumming possibilities. Might give that a pop sometime. |

Man, my Gotoh Res-o-Lite tuners wont be shipped from Japan until April 12. I can't wait that long!
Also, should I add a series/parallel switch to my 8-string? gogogo |
no. less controls the better.
|
Well, it's currently set up with:
Volume - Volume - Hi Mid/Low Mid - Bass/Treble - Active/Passive(tone), so the "simplicity" factor is already out the window. |
rip it all out and wire direct from pickup to output jack.
