What is your ecological footprint?

The ecological footprint is the amount of land required to sustain you. If the whole world lived like America, we'd need over 5 Earths to sustain that lifestyle. And it's said that we should bring the whole world up to American's level?

TOTAL FOOTPRINT 20

IN COMPARISON, THE AVERAGE ECOLOGICAL FOOTPRINT IN YOUR COUNTRY IS 24 ACRES PER PERSON.

IF EVERYONE LIVED LIKE YOU, WE WOULD NEED 4.6 PLANETS.

-1up!- 05-30-2006 07:30 PM

I'm guessing there's some sort of test which your forgot to link...?

Jharaski 05-30-2006 07:33 PM

Yeah =/

http://www.earthday.net/footprint/index.asp

I had it pasted in but somehow removed it.

Der Übermensch 05-30-2006 07:35 PM

Did that awhile ago... I recall that I "only" needed about 2.5 earths...

Zesty Mordant 05-30-2006 07:38 PM

total footprint is 7.4

my country is 8.8

if everyone lived like me there would be 4.1 earths.

I'm in Canada. I eat lots of meat and lots of processed food, but I walk a lot and use my bicycle. :)

Jharaski 05-30-2006 07:41 PM

Mine's only so high because I eat a lot of meat. I rarely drive, but I am often a passenger. 90% of the time it's only to keep someone company, so that 90% of the time, I'm maybe reducing fuel efficiency by like 2%. And I have a big house.

peeted 05-30-2006 07:48 PM

4.2 for me. it would take 2.3 earths to sustain everyone with my life style :/

Chrizzle fo' Shizzle 05-30-2006 08:04 PM

14 acres

Apparently, I'm below average. I need to start using more stuff

Already_Taken 05-30-2006 08:31 PM

that test is stupid. it acts as if i have 1 plant processing all of my food. it doesn't take into account that it's hard to grow vegetables for myself to eat when there's about an acre of grass in my whole city.

"it would take 4 planets for everyone to live like me"

No it doesn't. It just asks what is local and what isn't, which I think factors into gas consumption.

Krabsworth 05-30-2006 08:35 PM

wtf they called me fat

Danish 05-30-2006 09:07 PM

7.2

I'd need 4 Earths.

It's not stupid. It isn't criticing you, it's drawing attention to our way of life. Western society is set up in such a way that our ecological footprints are huge. It isn't your fault, it's everyone's fault.

thedeadwalk! 05-30-2006 10:03 PM

Right not it'd take 4.8 Earths to keep everyone goin' like me. When school starts back up, I got it down to 1.7.

Hardcore!

StreetlightRock 05-30-2006 10:13 PM

7.6 Ha. the Average for Australia is also 7.6.

I need 4.2 planets though.

dei 05-30-2006 10:27 PM

My total footprint is 9, my country's average being 24 acres per person.

If everyone lived like me, we would need two planets.

I'll take responsibility for everyone in this thread. Don't feel guilty at all.

It's my fault.

I'll solve it. Don't worry about a thing.
Do not heed any hippy bull**** that comes your way.

Chill :-]

Reaganista 05-30-2006 11:55 PM

this is such stupid ****ing bull**** mother****ers.

the whole concept of needing extra planets is completely ****ing insane we've been using land progressively more and more intensively ever since we first figured out that seeds turn into plants dammit.

I got a 12 foot print and it said if everyone lived like me there would need to be 2.9. Yet your footprint is half mine but 3.5 planets. That doesn't make sense.
