[b]Biography:[/b]

Rancid formed orginally for one reason, to help Tim Armstrong cope with his alcoholism problem. Rancid was never meant to be big, famous or any of the things it became. After Operation Ivy broke up, Tim's days of alcoholism hit their worst, leaving him over dosed on alcohol twice, and his voice permantly slurred. Now that is out of the way, lets look at how it happened.

When Operation Ivy broke up, Tim and Matt stayed together and played in a number of bands such as: Dance Hall Crashers, Downfall, Matt later joined the hardcore band MDC. When all fell through and Tim's alcoholism was high, Matt suggested they start a band, so the two added Tim's roommate, and old Gilman street friend Brett Reed on drums. This would be the orginal line of Rancid, formed in 1991. Within months they were playing live shows around town and put out an EP with local record label Look Out Records!.

Around that time Brett Gurewitz heard the demo/EP and had started Epitaph, and offered Rancid a chance to join on. They did very quickly, and the result was "Rancid"(1993). By this time, Rancid was looking for a second guitarist, their first choice was Lars Frederiksen, but he turned them down. They then started to work with Billie Joe Armstrong, he helped Tim write "Radio" and even played a show with them live, before he turned them down saying he'd rather stay with his band, Green Day. After that happened the UK Subs(the band Lars was in) had broken up and Rancid asked him again, this time he joined in, and joined Rancid on their first tour.

In 1994 Rancid released "Let's Go!" and it was recieved very well in both mainstream and the underground punk scene. "Salvation" was picked up by MTV and gave the band the most exposure they had ever gotten before, while "Let's Go!" went gold. With the success of Green Day, Rancid and The Offspring, Epitaph was getting major-labels interest, and offers were set in on every band. Rancid became a bidding contest from every direction, even Madonna's record label made offers, but in the end, Rancid decided to stay on Epitaph and keep creative control and to give thanks for the chance Epitaph had first given them.

Rancid became an even larger success after putting out "...And Out Come the Wolves" in 1995, with pop hits like "Ruby Soho", "Time Bomb" and "Root Radicals". The album quickly went platinum, and made Rancid one of the largest punk bands of the time, also adding to the punk revival. In 1996 they played Lollapalooza, and then took a short break. Tim Armstrong would start
"Hellcat Records" and Lars Frederiksen would do production on bands they hoped to sign.

Rancid came back in 1998 with "Life Won't Wait", a CD that took a year to record. It was recorded in 5 different locations, every place greatly influencing the sounds of songs. Not reaching the success of "...And Out Come the Wolves" the CD proved to be a strong CD, none-the-less. One thing the CD seemed to lack though, were strong punk songs, and the punk scene largely wrote off the record.

In 2000, Rancid came out with "Rancid"(2000). A fast paced, no-ska, record, featuring 22 songs, and not even 40 minutes long. The CD was largely speed-punk and was recieved fairly well by the punk community, but getting no main stream success. Rancid would take a short break after this CD to deal with personal affairs.

After 2000 set in the lives of every band member seemed to take hard hits, divorces, relationships falling apart, friends and family dying, sickness, and lies. Lars Frederiksen recieved surgery on his back for Degenerative Disc Disease at this time.

In 2003 the band came back with "Indestructible" describing what they'd been through, were going through, and letting the world know they weren't going anywhere. Featuring songs like "Otherside" about Lars brother dying, to "Tropical London" about Tim Armstrongs divorce. This record was an overall mainstream success with "Red Hot Moon" and "Fall Back Down" both getting good rotation on MTV, it has been considered one of their weaker albums by fans.

Since then they've been on a break to work on other projects, Tim in Transplants, and Lars in Lars Frederiksen and the Bastards, and Matt in Social Distortion(he has left the band since then). They have also started another record label called "Rancid Records" and been working on a new album that has a planned release date on 2006, with a single coming out for it in late 2005. To this day, they've still followed their punk roots and stayed on the independent record label that gave them their start, stayed true to their sounds of ska, punk and reggae, Rancid has proven time and time again their worth.

Its kindof a bootleg. Its an acctual released cd, but all the songs are bootlegs. So its kindof an official bootleg.

I didn't get all the singles, I know that. "Nihilism" was probably a single off of "Let's Go". I didn't list "Give 'Em the Boot DVD" either, but I don't really think people were that picky. I'm not at my place at the moment, but I've found a few singles/comps that I plan on editting in when I get home.

That one will be harder to pull off, mainly with this crowd, but will give me a chance to go back to the Operation Ivy days, to the Transplants days. Tim has been through a lot more bands than Rancid in the past 10 years, we all know that.

I'm only picky because it makes me seem hardcore. If you do a Tim one, I'm just going to end up mentioning that you missed Shaken' 69 or something, so don't pay any attention to me.

I think a Tim one would be awesome. I think lots of people here would think differently though, because for some reason it is trendy to hate Tim Armstrong.
