Is Pocket Symphony any good?

Phil 12-27-2007 01:44 AM

I like it. Its a bit inconsistent but the use of different instruments keeps it interesting. One of the more underappreciated album of the year, I think.

Apocalyptic Raids 12-27-2007 01:54 AM

It's pretty good, I'd give it about a 3.5 or so. The production is just lovely.
Is Pocket Symphony any good?
I haven't listened to it all the way through yet but what I've heard so far is good. Jarvis Cocker worked on some of the songs :boner:

Zmev 12-27-2007 05:30 AM

The Jarvis Cocker song is pretty out of place, but its good.

Pocket Symphony isn't the place to start for Air albums, but its still a pretty album.

sunn - flight of the behemoth
converge - jane doe

Neoteric 12-27-2007 07:32 AM

Converge albums are so damn expensive here, most albums here are about £10 yet all the Converge albums I see in store are like, £18.

Eliminator 12-27-2007 07:33 AM

i saw it used for $6.99 and snatched it up real quick and ****

Neoteric 12-27-2007 07:35 AM

Holy crap, it sucks being in the UK because we get tax on CD's.

Seriously, paying nearly £20 for an album is a complete rip-off when nearly a quarter of it goes to the government.

Eliminator 12-27-2007 07:37 AM

well new cds are taxed but i dont know if used ones are

i got those two cds for like $15. lol most of the sunn cds there were used and looked like they were barely played

buying used ftw

Neoteric 12-27-2007 07:41 AM

I could imagine normal people randomly buying Sunn O))) albums and returning it the next day haha.

Yeah, used CD's rule. I have a few used stores in my area but you wouldn't go there to look for something exactly, you would go there and just find some bargains if you get me. The best bargain I've found was a Bark Psychosis and an Envy CD for £8 altogether.

Eliminator 12-27-2007 07:43 AM

ive gotten Trout Mask Replica and Double Nickels on the Dime both for $7 at this one place where i'm going to today

Neoteric 12-27-2007 07:44 AM

Both of those albums are really expensive here. You would have to pay £30 to get both of those albums (£15 each if you are THAT bad at maths).

Eliminator 12-27-2007 07:48 AM

that would be like $30 each here

Neoteric 12-27-2007 07:51 AM

That much? Overpriced CDs suck, there isn't much need for them to be that expensive.

Eliminator 12-27-2007 07:52 AM

deluxe edition cds are like that price

Neoteric 12-27-2007 07:53 AM

I don't buy deluxe edition CDs, I'm happy paying a lot less for the normal edition.

Eliminator 12-27-2007 07:54 AM

if i had money i would probably buy the ones with interesting material
like the DDN one

but a lot of them have pretty lame stuff

Neoteric 12-27-2007 07:59 AM

I want the Daydream Nation one but when I go to the store, it's usually £20 and I could buy two or three albums for that price.

Though weirdly, SY albums are dirt cheap here.

Apocalyptic Raids 12-27-2007 08:00 AM

I get deluxe editions if they have nice packaging (which they usually do). I am a sucker for that stuff.

Neoteric 12-27-2007 08:01 AM

I like deluxe editions when they are compiled by the band instead of the record company just releasing them for $$$.

Eliminator 12-27-2007 08:03 AM

the live stuff on the DDN one could be better

ive heard some recordings from shows in 89 that are a lot better but oh well

Neoteric 12-27-2007 08:06 AM

They sound more tighter now than they did then but they play some of the songs wayyy too slow.

The Sonic Youth ones are good because it's the band that compiled the material instead of Geffen reaching into their vault of musical heaven and pulling out some crappy unreleased songs and a CD-ROM with a MUSIC VIDEO ON IT!!!!!!!!

Eliminator 12-27-2007 08:07 AM

yeah seriously sometimes it seems like steve is trying to push the song but everyone is like "im old"

Neoteric 12-27-2007 08:08 AM

When I saw them live they were very energetic except Kim. That was until they played Rather Ripped stuff and she started dancing which was very cool but also very lol.
