why listen to this poppy, meaningless party and bullshit rap?

Serious question. Death Grips, Lil B, and just about all the motherfuckers getting praise on this site do nothing but rap about bullshit that your life wouldn't miss if it never heard it.

MalleusMaleficarum 04-29-2012 02:03 PM

MalleusMaleficarum 04-29-2012 02:49 PM

BethanyLizard 04-29-2012 03:07 PM

illmitch 04-29-2012 03:14 PM

not sure if redhouse is trolling or legitimately retarded

exredhouseresident 04-29-2012 03:18 PM

Thats a poor dichotomy indicating more of your own stupidity, as most your posts in my previous attempts to converse with you have also shown.

But it was a serious question. Only the fact that there hasn't been a serious reply proves the music is all the more indefensible and meaningless. If that's your preference, at least have the nerve to admit it.

illmitch 04-29-2012 03:22 PM

if you had ever given a serious listen to lil b's music you would know that it is anything but meaningless

"Even though, you know, we can fly, and cars and technology has gotten better, I still feel the human race has not progressed as much as we should be. How come the human race hasn't progressed as much as technology has? Yeah, we're gonna be staying on the moon, but there's still gonna be racism, so in the end are we really winning?"

real talk

exredhouseresident 04-29-2012 03:28 PM

Its such basic drivel that it would be better titled meaningless than meaningful. For the purpose of his meaningful music, anyhow, there are those that do much greater service to the subject matter you believe he is appreciable for rapping about.

Caring if I like him is only a concern of yours. I'm questioning what reasons there are to listen to his shitty music, as well as most of the other hip hop people here listen to as well as the hip hop that gets famous and extolled for being so creative and new when it clearly is anything but.

matious 04-29-2012 05:13 PM

I'd imagine most music isn't that enjoyable when you don't listen to it, but choose to fester on preconceived criticsm.

Maybe the intentional lack of creativity in Lil B's music is what makes him somewhat interesting, I think of him as a rap equivalent of Mark E Smith, if you will. He makes unpleasing, incoherent ramblings over repetitive loops, but it's still engaging.. He certainly paved the way for more flamboyancy and homoeroticism within the genre.

publicastration 04-29-2012 05:16 PM

exactly, lil b is an incredibly engaging artist

his lyrics make me laugh sometimes but he's still talking about real shit. while it might not be all webster-polished and wordplayed, its still genuine feelings and true positivity. thats something unique and refreshing in the genre

exredhouseresident 04-29-2012 05:21 PM

I'll give you that -- that the positivity is genuine -- but that isn't enough to really distinguish him, is it? How many other genuinely positive people are making music, indie, underground rap, and otherwise? Rap itself is filled with feel good motherfuckers yapping about their good times. The music is still trivial creations that do nothing but pass time. It would be like comparing a self-help, pop-psychology book to Freud's The Future of An Illusion or Civilization and its Discontent, or something else that might actually have an impact if it reached the same vastness of an audience that the easier to digest and rather vapid pop-psychology book will meet.

illmitch 04-29-2012 05:22 PM

there is absolutely no other rapper like lil b

that's what distinguishes him

Nice to know making such a distinction is still valid on the internet, more valid, indeed, than actually engaging in the discussion.

[QUOTE=illmitch;18858818]there is absolutely no other rapper like lil b

He's about as distinguishable an accidental pen mark you make when writing the words "phony rappers" that makes the p look like a k and all of a sudden you're realizing not enough people care about kony 2012 and then you're realizing how easy it is for people to mistakenly give a shit about anything if the ideas are presented simply enough but then you realize that when the ideas are presented simply enough, they do not contain any worthy criticism of the ideas in question.

Ergo: lil b.

Phony is not a term i would use to describe Lil B, It's curious you say that. Some of his lyrics include really personal, self deprecating material like chronic masturbation, anti-social behavior, internet addiction. He's consistently uploaded video's of his personal life for years. He has no qualms about living with his mom still, something he has presented.

Who else was calling themself a pretty bitch before lil b?

Yoni and Doseone have made self-deprecating lyrics like that before and with sharper wit and better diction, I'm sure.

What I see is ultimately an easy going perception of his character and lyrics, I don't think you all can really feel he's this remarkable jesus of rap infallible and invulnerable to wacknesss. If there are two spheres, skill and honesty, which overlap and produce what we as rap fans appreciate the most, lil b is all honesty and thats it.

And more broadly, rappers are either one or the other and fairly weak with whatever they are. That is why I made this thread questioning the reasoning why people might be into these motherfuckers. They offer so little yet receive such high praise. It doesn't make sense unless I suspend the belief that people listen to music they're impressed by.

Who was saying lil b was this? I certainly wasn't. Sure i agree with your vague skill and honesty venn diagram i guess. Lil B is obviously not that skilled, but he's certainly entertaining. Are you going to deny the influence Ol Dirty Bastard had even though he wasn't technically proficient?

He really doesn't get that much praise. He's not considered a great rapper, he's a thought-provoking novelty, and I'm genuinely interested to see where he goes from here on out.

exredhouseresident 04-29-2012 10:24 PM

Hes a novelty, hardly thought provoking. In the world of entertainment, novelties are not thought provoking, they're just something new to fawn over. Suspending more principles of mine, lending credence to the comparison between Lil B and ODB, that itself means ODB was doing it way before Lil B and that Lil B is that much LESS creative or novel, and that any appreciation he receives at all is superfluous and undue.

illmitch 04-29-2012 10:30 PM

lil b is way more interesting as an entertainer than ODB ever was
