So I inherited a piece of **** Gibson LP from the 70's...

This is a guitar that I got a few years ago and just recently got around to fixing it. It's a Gibson Les Paul from the 70's. When I got it it was in **** condition so I put new pickups on, had it set up, and all in all put about $500 worth of work into it. I also had my friends boyfriend paint Bill Hicks on it. I like Bill Hicks. Now it sounds real nice, and I like it.

Sorry I don't know how to make it be an image in the thread so here's a link.

mistermikev 10-15-2009 09:26 PM

looks pretty nice... not sure who bill hicks is nor whether it was a good move considering it probably devalued it a bit... but if you like it -that's all that matters.

Buttloaves 10-15-2009 09:26 PM

Really?

Castillo 10-15-2009 09:36 PM

It's a family heirloom. I'm not really aloud to sell it.

Blindside890 10-15-2009 09:46 PM

Oh okay, but you're allowed to fuck up the goldtop.

That makes sense.

Castillo 10-15-2009 10:34 PM

It's not a goldtop. That is obvious by the lack of a goldtop.

gingerfish 10-15-2009 10:48 PM

**** these haters it looks tight but you need to finish the paint job. lol 3 pickups what kind did you put in?

Sad But True 10-16-2009 04:17 AM

Bill Hicks is shit. And so are you for painting that guitar like a moron.

Cramboli 10-16-2009 05:20 AM

Last time I knew someone to come across a vintage piece of equipment it took them 3 years to gather the parts for it specifically then took a week of finishing touches to make it look as a good as new... Not **** it up in a few days paint a crappy comedian on it...

Castillo 10-16-2009 06:26 AM

I'm known for doing things that aren't wise. I figured it was already in shitty condition, so why not just go all out with a painting of a comedian.

Castillo 10-16-2009 06:28 AM
**** these haters it looks tight but you need to finish the paint job. lol 3 pickups what kind did you put in?
Seymour Duncan's. The middle pickup is an original though.

JoshIsNumber3 10-16-2009 07:49 AM

well, it looks like it could have been great but now it looks wtf prankt

TheDanSandwich 10-16-2009 07:53 AM

It doesn't really matter what these guys say, it's your guitar, do whatever you want with it, and it's not like you can't repaint it if you change your mind later. I always like seeing guys do unique things with their guitars, gives it a personality.

JoshIsNumber3 10-16-2009 07:53 AM

What kind of personality can a guitar have if it has someone else's personality on it?

500 dollars would've* went a long way towards something that would've* made more sense.

nght5tlkr 10-16-2009 02:08 PM

Why would you do that to a family heirloom? Better yet, why is Bill Hicks a part of your family heirloom?
500 dollars would of went a long way towards something that would of made more sense.
Your post would have made more sense had you replaced your 'ofs' with 'haves'.

I name all of my guitars after dead comedians. This is the only one I felt I should have painted though.

i would've just changed the pickups.

but yeah, it's your guitar. you shouldn't give a **** if a bunch of people from some forum hate it.
Bill Hicks is shit. And so are you for painting that guitar like a moron.
Bill Hicks had more brains than you... and he died of a drug overdose.

...

Anyways to the threadstarter: Don't worry about most of the dickheads on this forum are saying (most of them are frustrated bedroom players). If you weren't likely to ever sell it, good on you for restoring it and personalizing it.

Even though guitars from the 1970s are the best ever made, if the guitar wasn't stored properly, the copper in the pickups would have worn out anyway.

You know that there's no guitar on the planet like that, so **** everyone else.

Aus_rock_god 10-17-2009 12:15 PM

... but looking at the before pics... I would have just changed the pickups... that was a beautiful finish...

not that there's anything wrong with Bill Hicks.

Pancreatic cancer, actually.

Meh, I was thinking of another dead comedian. The one who died practically inside out after taking waay too much of something illicit (if anyone knows who that was, please tell me).

Mitch Hedberg, one of the most innovative comedians ever.
