Ok, since this is a new section, and rightfully named 'luthiery and modding' thanks to wintermute, how about we show off some of our handiwork. Be it guitars or basses you've built or modded, or pedals you've made from the ground up (right now my tube-based wah is getting under way). How about showing off your works so everyone can see how good of work you do sooo then there'll be backing to what you say/ said you've done along these lines.

Well, since I can't resist any chance to show off, this is a bass that is almost done. Just need to put on the knobs, mount the control cavity door, and put on the strap locks...

Oh yeah, and there's a story. Someone wants me to build him a bass and everything's going fine with the design, then he says "oh, can you make it a headless?".

My standard headstock is like this (this is a 6-string in progress).

^^ I had a sneaky feeling it would be something along those lines.

Now to me that fits in idealy with the style of that particular bass.

Ha ha, yes Peg! And I think I have a new bass to post there if I can get some good pics today. I finished everything during the last couple hours, and it is a sweet thing :)

I saw the picture of your bass and I was like.. "I know I've seen that bass before!" Or at least that style anyway. And you made the brass bridge for that too, right?

to make SoM's bass look even better. here is a bass that i built a new body for. it was just a rough attempt so i could get a feel for what some of the process would be like. and since then i defretted the neck.

Hmm. I have a neck which I've reshaped the headstock on, and I'm gonna finish it.


I'm gonna buy a sanded down body from ebay and finish it too. Good practise.

I have loads of electric stuff on the go. Pickguards and stuff.

It's a shared guitar/bass forum.

we should get drum modifications in here too....because I know my drummer does and bunch of weird stuff to his drums like shallowing out shells, putting on different patterns of material on the shells and stuff like that.

I'm guessing this forum's just general mod's and lutheiry
and i guess that includes everything from guitar to bass to drums to kazoo to harmonica and any other strange and abstract instrument u wanna play and mod out

I put LED's in my washboard a while back. It ruined the tone, just destroyed those second level harmonics.

sadly, i've seen a page where someone played a kazoo through a wah pedal

Lutherie is the making of wooden instruments. Drums apply!! :D

I'm actually gonna get a set soon I think, a real junky one, for $50. I haven't actually seen it yet but it has been described to me. So I'll probably mess around with that sometime... I'm guessing the shells are wrapped, so I'm sure eventually I'll take that off and lacquer 'em up sometime, mmm shiny. =)
