Where would you be?
This is the thread where YOU, can tell everyone where you think you would be with your bass playing, without this bass forum.
I'll start by saying that I definetaly(s/p?) wouldn't be as skilled, nor would I have an ERB. |
I would probably have the same level of playing, but I wouldn't know shit about amps, basses, other equipment, artists, etc.
|
I wouldn't be as open to various genres of music and know different bassists. I also would not be as far as I am with skills because of different tips on pretty much everything.
And i wouldn't know crap about gear, and different things about basses (neck thru, pickups, etc) Plus, I wouldn't know as many cool bassists :thumb: |
Plus, I wouldn't know as many cool bassists :thumb:
I get it!! :D |
I wouldn't listen to Wooten because I would still think he was a guitarist that used 4 strings.
|
id probably have a life.
|
I'd still be playing guitar.
|
I'd still think Flea was the fecal matter of all bassist.
I wouldnt know how to slap/pop/tap/harmonic/..i wouldnt know about anything except fingerstyle. I wouldn't know that the "dude from RUSH" (yeah, i know his names geddy lee) was regarded as a top bassist. I..would...probably get more homework done. |
I would probably suck a lot.
|
id be in a ditch passed out in montana
|
id be in a ditch passed out in montana
..and i'm standing nearby with a stick of butter and a tranquilizer gun... :p :naughty: |
i am passed out in a ditch
Well i wouldnt kno anything and i would get pwned by store owners |
Eh...I'd probably be better than I really am because I'd actually be practising instead of sitting on here. Well, I don't know since my bass is always at my guitarist's house because of transportation issues.
I'd probably study theory more than I'd ever need to, which is what I used to do even while I was on this site. I probably wouldn't know all that much about equipment. So, pretty much, I just wouldn't know much on equipment. :) |
I wouldn't have known the threadstarted lived 15 minutes away from me.
|
id still be listening to blink 182 sum 41 and avril lavigne
|
id be hudled in a corner, with a small pile of burning bass pieces in teh centre of the room...
|
Outside. Seriously... that's not a joke. :upset:
I'd probably be your generic speed finger rock bassist with no musical knowledge and simply a mindless shredder. I say that because I'd just be hitting notes and not know what I was doing... |

Exactly the same with me. I would probably had never seen that Schecter Stilleto Custom 5 I love so much without you guys :). |
i would still think blink 182 is the greatest band ever
|
well without the forum I wouldn't be at my level of playing, maybe in a year or two i would have acheived where I am now...
and i wouldn't know jack **** about equipment, solo bassists, tapping, (before the forum i thought it was all EvH style i hate that so much), playing in the pocket, locking, and anything about taking care of my bass THANK U MX! |
Well, i wouldn't know about Jaco, Victor, Hamm etc and i wouldn't know about all the different brands, Warwick etc
|
I might have given up or not bothered playing very much.
I wouldn't have a fretless or 6 string. I wouldn't listen to most of the music I do now. I'd still think Newstead was the best bassist ;). |
I would be crap as like I was before I came on here. These forums have helped so much, especially with my bassist knowledge. An invaluble resource :p
|
i would still think blink 182 is the greatest band ever
They are the best band tho! :upset: Id probably have more of a life if i didnt find MX, ive already converted my guitarist into a forum junkie :thumb: Id probably just lack a whole bunch of knowledge on gear if i didnt join. |
I would still have no Freaking clue about OHM'S.
|
No different, I've never learnt anything about techniques etc on here, the same things get said all the time, as even I say them when teaching students. I don't feel that spending all your spare time on a forum can help you much, surely spending that time actually practising and gigging etc will help your playing alot more.

I wouldn't know half of the techniques i do, i would still be a pick player 100% of the time, and alot lot more.
|
I might never have discovered the likes of Wooten, Manring and Stu Hamm and I would not be at the Bass Institute, I'd be boring my arse off doing physics at uni... This forum has helped me discover music I wouldn't have been exposed to otherwise and that music helped to motivate me into being a better player.
|
I wouldn't have learnt about solo bassists, and the hardest basslines i ever would have played would be by Flea.
|
Doing homework.
|
I'd be playing video games all the time, and my bass would be in the corner collecting dust
|

Surely you mean, you wouldn't? |

Musician Forums stole it. |
There are pros and cons. On this site, I first heard about Sheehan (my main influence and favorite bassist), Jaco, Vic, and pretty much every solo bassist I know of. I've learned an insane amount of knowledge about gear as well. Also, consider this:
Morpcat introduced me to Sheehan. I bought a Vai DVD because he was on it. My guitarist saw the Vai DVD and proceeded to crap his pants. This inspired him to become a much better guitarist than he was...he went from Metallica to Dream Theater in about three months...and has introduced him to Satch, Malmsteen, Petrucci, etc. So, the forum has influenced the rest of my band as well. On the other hand, I'd practice more if I weren't on here so friggin' much! So...where would I be? I'd probably be a little faster but not nearly as educated, and I'd probably be playing in a Metallica-esque band as opposed to our LTE-influenced prog-fusion. |
