I got their album, the one that everybody loves. I was underwhelmed.

I'm sorry.

Yeah, it's pretty good.

But not that good.

You know, like every hyped album.

I've listened to [I]In the Aeroplane Over the Sea[/I] way too much, still a gem every now and then, but has sort of lost it's touch from when I first listened to it.

good album, but i can't stand whatever song it is where he's just wailing "i love you jesus christ."

I hate that band, man.

I think Aeroplane Over the Sea is a great album. Don't have their other one.

Please don't start the idea that every popular a/i band needs an official thread.

I reckon theyre pretty wicked, I have In The Aeroplane Over The Sea and its bout 7-8 material, nothing over really, i really like and dislike some of the songs on it. Haven't heard On Avery Island but i haven't really heard good things bout it, so i might give it a miss.

The song in the thread title is one of my favorites of all time.

Neutral Milk Hotel is good, but not great. That aeroplane over the sea album is worth an 8.5/10 though. Maybe even higher.

I need to get [I]On Avery Island[/I]. I don't listen to [I]Aeroplane...[/I] as much as I should.

I just bought "In the Aeroplane Over the Sea". I like it a lot, none of the songs are bad. My rating- 4/5. I'll need to get my hands on "On Avery Island".

Don't get me wrong, I love [I]In the Aeroplane[/I], but one of the best albums of the past 20 years may be streching it. I need to look into getting [I]On Avery Island[/I], as well.

Anyway, it's a horribly overrated album, but still enjoyable. The opening track is one of my favorite openers ever, and the album goes down in quality after it, IMO.

It would've been so much better without the filler.

Neutral Milk Hotel is my very favourite band and [I]In The Aeroplane Over The Sea[/I] is my very favourite album. [I]On Avery Island[/I] is also great, but not quite as great. There is a tremendous amount of live and unreleased material out on the internet, and most of it is also fantastic.

Well I like them. Aeroplane is one of my favourite albums, to me, there really is something about it.

On Avery Island doesn't really compare for me, but it's still quite solid.

In an Aeroplane Over the Sea is gorgeous. Magnum hits some touching areas, I won't cry. But no promises.

And I'm so burnt out on Aeroplane, I've been switchign between a soundboard boot and On Avery Island... I can't get the Baby For Pree/Where You'll Find Me KNow/Glow Into You trilogy out of my head...

The thing is that a lot of people find Mangum's vocals so jarring, yet I find it goes straight into my soul, you know? Like those statues from Neverending Story that Atreyu had to run past to get to the Southern Oricle? Kinda like that, only Neutral Milk has a singing saw instead of lazer eyes.

But I think that's what's so brilliant, is the grotesque/surreal lyrics that someonehow truely capture elements of the human spirit, coupled wiht Mangum's aformentioned delivery. Not to mention the production on that record... 4-tracks, made to sound like 1940s radio... It's very pure, undilluted music. Maybe that's it? This IS Jeff Mangum, what you are hearing, you know?

Those are pretty much my ratings. [i]In the Aeroplane Over the Sea[/i] is, to me, a masterpiece. [i]On Avery Island[/i] isn't nearly as consistent or complete, but it still has some exceptional songs ("Song Against Sex","Naomi", "Three Peaches").

Many, many fags drool over them and namedrop the band, but they are/were good.
