Desert Island Collection
Ok picture the scene.
A phoenix grabbed you from your house and flew with you all the way to a mysterious desert island with a mains plug and a massive CD player. Just before the flight, the phoenix said to you, "You can bring 5 CD's with you". That is all. So you grabbed your Cd's and off you go. And remember you are on this island for ever, so you can't get bored of them, they have to be good albums. (you survive by eating coconuts and drinking the milk) So, what 5 Cd's would you take to a desert island with electricity and a CD player... |
ITT we post our top 5 CDs.
Dude Ranch
Over the counter culture you could of had it so much better Some others... |
From Here to Infirmary
Sing the Sorrow Smoothed out Slappy Hours The Blue Album Disintergration |
Transplants- Haunted Cities
Anti-Flag- Mobilize Agalloch- Pale Folklore Sigur Ros- Untitled Afi- Sing the Sorrow Those are the albums I'm currently into, and I doubt I'll get bored of them anytime soon. |
Oh my, this is certainly hard. If it's going for something I'll never get bored of, I have to say:
Coheed And Cambria - Good Apollo I'm Burning Star IV The Ataris - So Long, Astoria Finch - What It Is To Burn Kanye West - Late Registration Taking Back Sunday - Tell All Your Friends These aren't my 5 favorite CD's necessarily, just ones that I can listen to for a very long time without ever getting tired of them. |
Brand Nizzle - Deja Entizzle
(For those moments when I feel like being told stories by Mr. Lacey, and for some jazzy pop-punk Refizzle - The Shape Of Pizzle To Cizzle (For those angrier moments, and so I can shout as loud as I can "CAN I SCREAM?!" The Fall Of Trizzle - Dopplizzle (To remind me how a band can be played so amazingly by people under 20 and for some mind-blowing guitar licks) Blinkizzle - Dude Rizzle (For those moments you wanna run around naked and fornecate with fish. What, just me? Fine, how about some funtastic pop-punk) Jimmy Eat Wizzle (LOL) - Clarizzle (For some awesome lyricary and songwriting by legend pop-punkers) |
lolz kif.

Psh, I would just bring my iPod.
|
Geez, Joel didn't you read the story, the phoenix said to bring 5 CD's, not an ipod ?!
|
Now that I've read the story, I wanna know why an island would have electricity on it anyway. In which case, I'd wander off looking for the source, because someone must've been there to install it, then I'd try and get help to get off the island. Lost style

Geez, Kif.
It's a mysterious island, it's magical, leave it man. MINE: Rancid - And out come the wolves For the times where i want to listen to the best band in the world. Refused - The Shape of Punk to come A bit of hardcore for me to listen to and scream to. Thrice - The Illuison of Safety To listen to some amazingly good guitar work and get blown away by awesome heavy songs, song after song. Against Me! - Reinventing Axl Rose For when i want to get up chant, scream and shout my heart away! Coheed and cambria - In Keeping Secrets Of Silent Earth 3 For when i want to listen to something a little differnet and amazingly catchy. I think that's right. |
If its magical, the chances are there is a magic pixie, you could talk to him and he could magic you home to change you cds everyone once in a while.

Hmm this is pretty impossible. Instead of getting 5 CDs i'd probably get a cricket bat and batter that f'uckin pheonix into oblivion, but as me doing that would ruin the thread i'll take...
NOFX- The Greatest Songs Ever Written By Us Descendents- Everything Sucks Lightyear- Chris Gentleman's Hairdresser (which i can't currently find and it f'ucking me off. The phoenix won't be happy waiting for me to find it) Captain Everything- It's Not Rocket Science The final CD would have lots of Bad Religion, Rise Against, Bouncing Souls, Filaments, Leftover Crack, Subhumans, TSOL, Good Riddance and many others copied onh to it. |
No, ther's no pixie numb nuts.
Coconut tree, mysterious mains plug and cd player. |
James, its a magic pheonix, needs more then i cricket bat to hit it with
I should do my list good, oh well its not like anyone actully cares |
I love how you deleted your post and then made it again with all the extra bits. Very smooth.
:D
Yeah, i was gonna do it and then you made me want to do it agian. |
Geez, Joel didn't you read the story, the phoenix said to bring 5 CD's, not an ipod ?!
But an Ipod obviously has more songs on it than 5 CDs. I think the phoenix would be pretty reasonable about it. |
Er, no.
It would be a waste of mains and cd player if you just brought your ipod. The phoenix isn't reasonable, it sticks to the rules. |

Yeah but I'd rather listen to 5 great CDs really well through an awesome sound system, than use my Creative Zen to listen to 20GB of music only to get A) My ears hurt from headphones B) The battery to run out and nowhere to charge it |
Exactly, Kifs got the idea !
|
By the way Dan you could've avoided this whole deal with a simple "What's your favourite 5 albums ever?" thread title
You know, just for future reference... |
Nah, this is more interesting.
And it's a bit different. |
Haha, nice thread !
Hmmmmm..... We are scientists- With love and squalor Maximo park- A certain trigger Green day- Nimrod Green day- Dookie The used- The used :) |
Modern Life Is War - My Love My Way
Modern Life Is War - Witness Social Distortion - Prison Bound Rise Against - Revolutions Per Minute Refused - The Shape Of Punk To Come |
I would take:
Rancid - Indestructible The Transplants - S/t Green Day - Insomniac Blink 182 - The Mark Tom And Travis Show Red Hot Chili Peppers - Californication Just what I've been listening to recently. |
Phoenixes (sp?) > Joel
Ok, so my CD players plays mp3 CDs, so I have 5 mp3 CDs. (:p) 1. Thrice's discography 2. Pop Punk mix including Noise Ratchet, Alk 3, Armor for Sleep, and Offspring (among others) 3. Metal mix including Metallica, Iron Maiden, In Flames and others 4. Laid Back mix including Sigur Ros, Radiohead, Opeth's Danmation, and others 5. Punk/Hardcore/Ska mix with some Strung Out, Blindside, AWS, Big D and so many more |
Hmm, the phoenix isn't happy...
|
Rancid- AOCTW
Rancid- Lets Go The Queers- Love Songs For the Mentally Retarded Operation Ivy- Energy Choking Victim- No Gods, No managers |
Blink 182- Enema Of The State
New Found Glory- Sticks and Stones Sum 41- All Killer No Filler Blink 182- Take Off Your Pants and Jacket NOFX- The Greatest Songs Ever Written By Us |
Jeez, I forgot Americana.
I would definitely take that in place of Insomniac. |
Miles Davis - Kind of Blue
Minutemen - Double Nickels On The Dime A Tribe Called Quest - The Low End Theory Siege - Drop Dead Captain Beefheart - Trout Mask Repleca |
No order.
Avenged Sevenfold-Waking the Fallen As I Lay Dying-Shadows Are Security(close with FWC) TOYPAJ-Blink 182 The Artist In The Ambulance-Thrice Will edit in 5th later. |
Thursday - Full Collapse
Amazing album. Plus my favourite Thursday song Standing On The Edge Of Summer. Poison The Well - Tear From The Red It's a mix of old and new. Basically the transition between YCBY and TOoD. I could have both styles in one cd instead of taking two. Coheed & Cambria - Second Stage Turbine Blade My favourite Coheed cd. A great cd overall, one that I can't get bored of. The Get Up Kids - Four Minute Mile Classic, has my 2 favourite songs by them. Plus it's the first one I ever heard of theirs so it holds some nostalgiac value. JamisonParker - Sleepwalker Currently one of my favourite bands. If they weren't this would probably be replaced by The Changing Of Times. |
Say It Like You Mean It - The Starting Line
The Artist In The Ambulance - Thrice Keasbey Nights - Catch 22 Life In Dreaming - Hidden In Plain View You Come Before You - Poison The Well Eh, that was basically impossible. I wasn't even able to get one album from all the genres I enjoy. |
Eh, that was basically impossible. I wasn't even able to get one album from all the genres I enjoy.
Same here. I also missed tons of albums that could also go on that list. I just named the first to came to mind. |
Jeez, I forgot Americana.
I would definitely take that in place of Insomniac.
Pff, Smash > Americana |
NOFX - Pump Up The Valuum
Minutemen - Double Nickels On The Dime Ensign - Direction Of Things To Come Converge - When Forever Comes Crashing Phobia - Grind Your Fucking Head In |
Dream Theater - Octavarium
Jordan Rudess - Rhythm Of Time Alkaline Trio - Crimson Iron Maiden - Dance Of Death Social Distortion - Sex, Love & Rock 'N' Roll |
Coheed and Cambria-Good Apollo I'm Burning Star IV Volume One:From Fear Through The Eyes of Madness
Coheed and Cambria-In Keeping Secrets of Silent Earth: 3 Taking Back Sunday-Tell All Your Friends Brand New-Deja Entendu Senses Fail-I'd take a burnt CD of theirs with their EP and their full length because I like the EP more but it only has 8 tracks on it so I want the full length too. I might take Rise Against-Revolutions Per Minute instead of the Senses Fail and if the bird said I couldn't take burnt CD's I would take Rise Against-Revolutions Per Minute. I didn't put Second Stage Turbine Blade because it doesn't have as many tracks as the other Coheed CD's, I'd rather have some variety too. |
