Post Hardcore vs. Hardcore

I'd like to start out with, what is the difference between the two? And second which do you think is better?

cuts_like_drugs 10-18-2005 11:08 AM

There are quite a few threads giving examples. Just check them out.

I am more of a fan of Post Hardcore myself, its more progressive, has more room for creativity, and more often than not is more melodic.
I love Hardcore too mind.

Berserker! 10-18-2005 02:37 PM

Post-Hardcore can be great but can also be dead boring. It lacks energy.

skankin'sophr 10-18-2005 03:30 PM

what is considered post-hardcore and what's considered hardcore? i've heard so many bands called post-hardcore that i dont know who actually is.

Wow 10-18-2005 03:48 PM

Listen to Trophy Scars for post-hardcore. <3 them.

A_Perfect_Sonnet 10-18-2005 03:57 PM

Then listen to Bury Your Fuckin' Dead for some hardcore two-steppin'.

Let's Chop Cats! 10-18-2005 04:05 PM

Joke right?

A_Perfect_Sonnet 10-18-2005 04:13 PM

Yeah.

cbmartinez 10-18-2005 04:22 PM

I need a definition of post-hardcore. I don't understand how Hopesfall, Trophy Scars, Fugazi and Quicksand can be put in the same category.

bottlerocket 10-18-2005 05:00 PM

Random question: what is He Is Legend? Post hardcore? I sorta think so but I'm not too sure what to call them.

Trophy Scars = <3

Massive amount of threads on this topic. It's getting ridiculous.

I never really got into post-hardcore, but I might check out Trophy Scars and Fugazi if I ever have the time.

Quicksand

id call them metalcore with a lot melody that is very common these days... generic.

NewKindofArmy03 10-18-2005 05:53 PM
Quicksand
Best band in the genre.

SunnyDayRealEstateAM 10-18-2005 06:10 PM

There was a Post-Hardcore thread not to long ago. I like Post-Hardcore better than Hardcore. My favorite Post-Hardcore bands are Glassjaw, Hopesfall, Trophy Scars, and Thursday

Thanks. :thumb:

Yeah, but I still think they can be pretty cool. Some of their songs are just plain boring, but some like The Seduction are pretty cool.

Post Hardcore has more diversity in it, I guess ppl can make their own mind up if that's good or bad.

Fugazi is incredible.

yeah i like that song too.

-Superman- 10-19-2005 04:55 PM

So all of you are saying theres no definition of "post-hardcore" or "hardcore" its just what the band decides?

Wow 10-19-2005 05:03 PM

There's a definiton. Basically it's bands who took the fundamentals of hardcore and put their own little twist to it to differentiate it enough to not be straight up hardcore.

Like I said, listen to Trophy Scars. They have some very noticable emo influences, but they have their own style.

Anxious 10-19-2005 05:05 PM

I like Post-Hardcore better, but both are good.

Sam 10-19-2005 05:06 PM

Surely you jest?

Exactly...it's like progressive rock, sort of...it's still "rock" but the group put their own spin on things.

The reason all these different bands can be put into Post-Hardcore is that they each took different elements of Hardcore and made it their own.

Neoteric 10-20-2005 07:36 AM

Am I strange to love hardcore but not post-hardcore even the minor differences?

Wow 10-20-2005 12:51 PM

No, not really.

Neoteric 10-20-2005 12:55 PM

Phew...thought I was strange there.

cobert 10-20-2005 01:13 PM

Its wierd, i like barely any hardcore, but most post-hardcore is easy for me to get into and like. Glassjaw, Thursday, and At The Drive-In are some of my favorite bands, and im trying to find stuff from quicksand and texas is the reason in the record stores around here.

Hey, it says that they're post-hardcore, but I listened to some of those bands you guys listed, and they don't sound like them. I think they sound kind of similar, but not close enough to be considered same genre. Maybe I'm wrong, I don't know. I just want to hear what you guys have to say.

Anxious 10-20-2005 04:58 PM
Surely you jest?
nope.

The main reason is that they suck.
The main reason is that they suck.
I find this to be true.

But to answer his question: As said before, post-hardcore is hardcore with the bands own personal style attached , so you're going to get alot of bands that sound different.

EvIL_ToASTER_OVEN 10-20-2005 06:44 PM

Post hardcore for the most part.

cbmartinez 10-20-2005 07:13 PM

It doesn't make sense that Glassjaw, Fugazi and Quicksand can all be called post-hardcore. THE SYSTEM IS BREAKING DOWN.

fearb4 11-09-2005 04:20 PM

I prefer post-hardcore.
