New Arsis EP

I just got it today in the mail. I didnt know that its not suppose to come out for another 10 days! haha i feel so cool now:cool:

anyways, guys, THIS CD IS AMAZING!

The song "Diamond for Disease" being a 13 minute "epic" was hyped up a lot and i have to admit that it lives up to it for sure. The guitar leads and solos are just pure insanity

The other two songs, one being an Alice Cooper cover, are both great. The production is a LOT better than their previous album, which really helps. I loved Celebration of Guilt, but it seems like Arsis is just getting better and better.

I'm glad to finally not hear Mike's drums dominating all the freaking songs. It annoyed the hell out of me.

Has anyone else heard the EP? What are your thoughts?

Shazzam 10-15-2005 09:36 PM

I already have it pre-ordered, but if you want you could send it to me at Roman5150@gmail.com.

:)

Shadows 10-15-2005 09:40 PM

Woah, woah...WOAH. Me and Arucard are total ARSIS FANBOYS! How the hell did you get this already? I'm impressed. :) The clip of the title track I've heard is amazing. Much heavier and darker - basically more death metal. I don't know if it will match up the the mastery on A Celebration of Guilt, but I'll be buying this.

Do you think you could zip it and email it to me? :D

*hugs*

killa_bees77 10-15-2005 09:53 PM

yeah im in the process of uploading the cd right now for you guys who want it. I guess for those of you who pre-ordered it, you should expect it very soon. I was totally surprised when i received it today, especially after i found out its like 10 days early lol In my opinion, ShadowsFallen, the music has been taken to the next level on this EP. I really hope they will do more epic songs on the new full length. Their older songs were usually pretty short and im glad they were able to pull off a long song like this. The ONE problem i personally have with the cd, other than the fact that its like less than 20 minutes long, is that Jim's vocals are not as good as CoG. More layering and less inspired. Some of his screams (especially in Carnal Ways to Recreate the Heart where he says "recreate a LIIIEEEE!!!!) were absolutely amazing and would send chills down my spine. But here its not nearly as powerful. Oh well, it doesnt make the music any less enjoyable. I hope you all will enjoy it as much as I have so far (only listened to it twice so far today).

Shadows 10-15-2005 09:57 PM

From what I've heard, I'm sure I will love it. Iagree with you about song length. On Celebration, most songs were cut way too short. The solos as well - Jim is a great guitarist and I think his solos should've gone on a lot longer. I like the new vocals though. He layered his screaming and added growling, so it sounds more forceful and more death metal. His vocals on the last album were excellent though, so I could go either way.

It's pretty awesome to see another Arsis fan here. :) I was going to pre-order ADfD, but Mike Van Dyne said that Willowtip was just about to release some brand new Arsis merch for the new releae, so I was going to wait and see what that stuff was like. I'm getting impatient though.

south_guitar 10-15-2005 10:12 PM

I want this. I recently got A Celebration of Guilt, it's one of the best CDs I've heard in a long time. I swear I thought they were European, but they're from my state which is insane. Anyway, yeah. I need to get this EP.

Shadows 10-15-2005 10:25 PM

On a side note, I just checked for Arsis on slsk and managed to find two old demo tracks. These haven't been released, aside from their 2002 demo. Oh my God, these guys have always been amazing!

EDIT: Holy shit, these songs are seriously amazing. Much more melodic and emotional than the stuff we have now. Think old At the Gates on speed.

killa_bees77 10-15-2005 10:28 PM

alright guys, YSI links have been sent. ShadowsFallen, PLEASE send me those songs!!! killa_bees77@hotmail.com

Thanx guys and enjoy the songs.

Shazzam 10-15-2005 10:29 PM

Thanks alot, im downloading it right now.

:)

Shadows 10-15-2005 10:35 PM

Thanks a lot man, this is like early Christmas for me. :) I'm sending you those demo tracks as we speak.

EDIT: HOLY @(%&!(%*@)!$_!(!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! THIS IS THE BEST SHIT EVER!!!!! I am not disappointed AT ALL with this. It's everything ACoG was and possibly more. They once again seemlessly blended insane metal with great technicality and beautul melodies. About 8:45 into the title track I almost cried because it sounded so incredible. So far, the title track is all I've heard, but I will not hesitate another second to buy this. This is indeed a masterpiece.

killa_bees77 10-15-2005 11:04 PM

hey man thanx for the demos sounding really sweet so far!! haha what a wonderful night for Arsis fans:thumb:

Shadows 10-15-2005 11:07 PM

I will. Oh my God, this is quite possibly the greatest thing I've ever heard.

Thanks a lot, I owe you huge.

killa_bees77 10-15-2005 11:20 PM

I'm glad you're enjoying it so much, ShadowsFallen, this cd is amazing. I hope everyone else gets a kick out of it too. Make sure to buy it guys, and support the band. Let's hope a tour will happen soon, too. That would be wicked.

Actually now that i think about it, is anyone planning to go to NYC to see Arsis play the title track for the ballet thing they are doing in January?

StreetlightRock 10-16-2005 01:00 AM

w00t! I love you man! Yo, shadows, I've got 4 demo songs that wenrt on CoG, which two do you have, i could upload the other two for you all if you dont have them.

This s'hit is seriously awsome. I love the bit after 5:50 and 11:41

Stoic 10-16-2005 03:29 AM

 even more melodic and emotional, longer songs with longer solos?! Now, I'm VERY curious: AcquiredDisguise@yahoo.gr :D

killa_bees77 10-16-2005 10:07 AM

Shattered_Future 10-16-2005 11:12 AM

I'll bite...the clip i heard of their 13 minute song was noticeably better than their other effort.

Yeah. Please feel free to send it my way.

It looks like we have some competition now. Or maybe just some more people to help us whore them. :)
w00t! I love you man! Yo, shadows, I've got 4 demo songs that wenrt on CoG, which two do you have, i could upload the other two for you all if you dont have them.
I have:

Fortune's Envy
Painted Eyes
Wholly Night
Worship Depraved

If you have any songs different from these, let me know. There are still two more demo songs that haven't been released.

I'm just about finished with me review for A Diamond for Disease.

EDIT: New avatar and usertitle. Thought I might join in the festivities.

EDIT 2: Okay everyone, I'm all finished with my review of ADFD. Now I'd like some help. Are the lyrics included in the booklet of the EP? If so, please pick two songs, take a four-line quote from each, and post it here for me. Pick something very memorable and symbolic. Something that really strikes you as great lyrics. I'd like to use some sidequotes on this one.

killa_bees77 10-16-2005 03:26 PM

From "A Diamond for Disease"

Because along this path are fragile whispers guiding me with guilt
And though they scream the faintest lies
they lead me to the knowledge that your words were chosen wisely
Disguised as all intent...

From "The Promise Of Never"
Though your disease is ever mine
I gave you diamonds
And in an act to seal the oath,
I gave you roses

I noticed that the lyrics to both songs are inter-connected, a lot of the phrases occur in both songs and seems like the theme of guilt from the last album is expounded upon here. Very interesting stuff. You'll see what I mean when you read the lyrics in the booklet.

StreetlightRock 10-16-2005 03:30 PM

I find the vocals more understandable in this one, just easier to make out words too. I'll send yall those demos when I get back from school.

Thanks alot, that helps greatly. :) I know what you mean though. I can hear Jim referring to various phrases in each song, and I think he mentions a celebration of guilt at some point.

killa_bees77 10-16-2005 07:02 PM

yeah ' celebration of guilt' is the first lyric in Promise of Never lol how clever

Shadows 10-16-2005 07:05 PM

That's a kickass song. I'm listening to it now.

Jim is an amazing lyricist.

Toaster 10-16-2005 07:05 PM

Why have I never heard of this band? Are they death metal or what/

Arucard 10-16-2005 07:09 PM

Real Melodic Death Metal.

killa_bees77 10-16-2005 07:09 PM
Why have I never heard of this band? Are they death metal or what/
Arsis is an American melodic death metal, and none of this scandanavian-rip-off-in flames-wannabe crap, this is the real deal, and the guitar player is off the wall. Might I add there are only two guys, the guitarist and the drummer. If your a fan of well written extreme metal you will love these guys. go to their site www.worshipdepraved.com and check out some of their songs if you're interested. :thumb:

Also you might not have heard of them because they are somewhat obscure at the moment. But I can predict they will become great in the years to come.

Shadows 10-16-2005 07:12 PM

Yes, REAL melodic death. None of this modern American-melodic-death-with-metalcore bullshit. Outstanding musicianship and incredibly memorable writing.

Neurotoxin 10-16-2005 07:18 PM

I'll be sending this out tomorrow. I love it so much! The title track has some amazing guitar work, needless to say,

Arucard 10-16-2005 07:20 PM

Yes, these guys makes people like DT look tame musicanship wise.

Shadows 10-16-2005 07:21 PM

That they do. I think Jim could rival Petrucci. He's already years ahead of DT in songwriting anyway.

Have you heard A Celebration of Guilt? If not, you must. If you love the new stuff you'll love the album.

Toaster 10-16-2005 07:45 PM
Yes, these guys makes people like DT look tame musicanship wise.
Woah. Truthfully, is this just the new EP fervor talking?

Shadows 10-16-2005 07:59 PM

No, I've felt that way for a while. They're extremely good musicians.

Shazzam 10-16-2005 08:01 PM

I was extremely shocked when I found out that they were only 2 people. I mean, their drummer is an absolute machine (look at pictures of him on their website), and their guitarist is absolutely amazing.

They are only two people?? Do they have bass? (visions of the White Stripes)

killa_bees77 10-16-2005 09:07 PM

they use extra musicians live (additional guitar and bass). The singer/guitarist plays bass on the albums though.
