Schecter Stiletto Studio 5
Make: Schecter
Model: Stiletto Studio 5 Year: 2002-2004 (Not quite sure) Price: (Paid) 450$ (New) 650$ Body Wood:Mahogany with Bubinga top Neck: Maple and Walnut with Rosewood fingerboard (24 frett, 35' scale, Neckthru) Pickups: EMG HZ passive pickups with EMG 3 band EQ Bridge: Dimond Custom Pics: Quality: 9.5/10 This bass is built like a tank. The neck is rock solid, the bridge doesn't budge a bit, and the tuners stay right were they were put. The neck is smooth as a babys bottem and is very fast and easy to play. The strings are perfectly spaced (I don't know the spacing, sorry). It's great for slap, tap and finger style. The body seems rock solid, for sadly this bass has met the floor a couple of times due to a bad strap and has never dinged/scratched. The body weighs a bit on the heavier side of things. Sound: 9/10 You can get most any tone imaginable. The three band EQ alows for the perfect tweak here and there. You can dial in a bleeding trebbly tone to a growling dog in seconds. The bass it self is a rather bright, not to say you can't dial in a warm bassy tone, for this thing can do it too! Electronics: 10/10 The electronics on this are very good. Every thing is very nice and neat in it's cavern. The inside of the cover has a proctective layer of insulation for less interferance. All the wires are insulated and wraped acourdingly to how they go to gether. It run's off two 9v batterys for improved head room. Overall: 8.75/10 Over all this bass is wonderfull. It is a joy to play and is very easy on the hands. It's a tad on the heavier side, and will wear on you fast if your jumping around. To me it's worth every penny I paid. |
Nice review.
I really want to play one... |
Nice review! Im stuck on whether to get a custom 4 or a studio 4... Do you know if there is much of a difference in the custom and the studio necks?
|
Nice review, I really want to get the exact same model, i'm struggling to find a dealer in the UK though.

Sound Control will definately order you one in. Ive asked before :thumb: |
Nice one, i'll check it out.
|
customs have a 6 bolt on neck. Elites and Studios are neckthru. Im pretty sure the string spacing is the same.
Edit:to jamie dunce. |
The only actual difference that would be appernt is a 6 bolt compared to a neckthru like said above. But IMPO the Custom's necks are the fastest out of all the Stiletto serries. They both have off set dots and multi laminate maple/walnut necks. The only down side that I see to the Custom's neck over the Studio is it's sustain is not quite as good as the studio, I don't know if this is because it's a neckthru, but it I think it's mostly contributed to the different bridge it has.

To Jamie.
Thanks! Im definately going to look into ordering a custom 4 when I have the money :) |
I recently bought a Elite-4 and I couldn't be happier. I played both the Custom and Elite models and liked the Elite because it was heavier and felt more durable. I've not tried the Studio but I'm sure its quite nice.
Whichever you choose jamie_dunce, you'll be more then happy. The EMG-HZ's are very nice and Schecter makes quality basses. |
I love the Studios. Amazing for the money.
Nice ax. |
i looked for these basses on Sound control in the UK and they don't have the studio ones. does anyone know if sound control would stock them, and at what price?
|
kool. thats good coming from someone who has actually plaid it lol. i expected the honey satin to be a little brighter but owell i stil like it :)
that was the first bass i had my eyes on lol thanks and that bass is a giant now that i look at it lol. the 1 fret is like bigger then my hand lol im gona kill myself tryin to play sum songs (i got small hand/fingers :( |
SoundControl are the only UK importers of Schecter. However, they do not get to choose what stock they order. Schecter simply send what they make based on a pretty guestimated demand (once every 4 months).
Those sent are then distributed around the UK stores, so theres a chance they have one elsewhere, so ask. |
I honestly think this is an incredibly poor review of this bass.
|
I've never seen a Schecter with those woods. Pretty neat.

It's not that bad. He covered most of the points. What would you add to it? |
-How's the action on it? Are there any dead notes anywhere?
-Is the fretwork any good? I've played too many $500+ Ibanez in new condition with undressed frets that cut into your fingers -You mentioned the weight, but is it balanced? Will the headstock dive towards the floor if you're not paying attention to it? -How's the Korean manufacturing...? Any visible glue seams anywhere? :thumb: |

The manufacturing is still very good, but the plastic covers on the back were scratched up somehow when I bought it. |
Ah, much thanks. I was curious because I'm entirely paying off the Stiletto Elite 5 that I have on layaway at Guitar Center today. I loved the way it looked and played right away so it was a no-brainer of a purchase for me. Constant headstock dipping though, eh? Oh well. I'm used to it...got a Thunderbird bass that got me into the habit of always paying attention.
|
I played one of these at Guitar Center the other day. This bass is really kickass. :thumb:
|
they always have them when i go into the sound contol in leicester (which isn't very oftern to be honest) 4's and 5's and i think to my memory 6's aswell, but that might have been another company that have alot of basses there
|
Nice review. I tried a similar model to this at my local instrument store. I forgot the name, I think it was an ibanez just a lower model.
|
i'm not really keeping track of this thread and this may be a little out of context, but i have to say it.
this bass is f_ckin beautiful. |
Agreed. I love my Elite; that neck-through sustain is just awesome and I've always said EMG pickups are the seksiness. This is one of those basses that plays better high up against your ribs than slung way low below your waist because of its weight.

Got a Q for ya, see the screw holes on the body, are they into wood or metal?
Jsut wondering, been thinking about getting Schecter for a while. My school has a 4 string version and I love it. |

Does anybody own both a Studio and an Exotic? I'm interested in both and i'm wondering he they compare.

Sade does, whatever screen name he's going by these days. He gets banned about once a week I think. |

I must say that gives me a lot of hope. |

He is a good bassist and a smart guy.. he's just a shit-stirrer. I trust his opinion on basses. |
i've always like how shecters basses did have to high action like other basses, but i played one at a music shop and the action was so low that notes on the first fret did work at all. I hope it was something wrong with that individiual bass and not the entire design.
|
thanks for the review, nice bass
|
As long as the Pickups go, they are the same between the Stuido, Elite and Custom, am i right?
Im on the verge of purchasing the Custom 5. From this review it seems like all the Siletteos are solids buys. |
The problem with my Elite 5 is the pre-amp. It burned out after 7 months, and my local guitar repair guy had to order a new one directly from Schecter.
The Schecter rep he spoke with seemed to acknowledge there have been problems with it and it's covered under warranty. Hopefully the one they sent doesn't have problems. |
-How's the action on it? Are there any dead notes anywhere?
The action is great as low as you could ever want or as hight as you like.It comes from the factory ready to go.
-Is the fretwork any good? I've played too many $500+ Ibanez in new condition with undressed frets that cut into your fingers
This is not a Ibanez, what it is, is a very well made bass that wont empty your pockets. IMHO to find a bass equal to this you would have to buy a Spector, and we all know wht that will cost.
--You mentioned the weight, but is it balanced? As for Visible glue none seen, this is a outstanding axe at any price. If you want the quality bass, but don't want one of these be prepared to spend $1000.00 more Juz my .02 |
Very nice basses, chunky, growly tone. The bassist in my band plays one.
