Why did Dirk Lance leave Incubus?
 

so i guess i never really figured out why Dirk Lance left Incubus.. was it his choice or did they not want him anymore or what?? anyways..anyone hear the rumor that incubus is rerecording Fungus Amongus with Ben Kenney?? hell yea!

I was told that Dirk Lance died. I have honestly no clue what happened though.

that rumor was an april fools joke sorry!
and i think dirk left because him and brandon were not getting along and he was tired of touring.
and he is still alive

I thought it was becuase of musical differences but...

i heard he went into politics or something and just kinda left the band

yeah he gave sweet head and they couldn't compete so he was all "you guys suck" lolz but not in the way intended.

my friggin' a[I]s[/I]s...that would suck so bad dude, they'll ruin it. i really don't think ben's style would fit in with their old songs...hence the new direction in their music.

pretty sure dirk is still alive and kicking.

And Incubus ARN'T re-recording Fungus with Ben. The whole point of getting him was to take a new direction. The cut of line was before S.C.I.E.N.C.E and they usually only rarely play certain shade of green with ben (Kind of sucks).

A re-recording of Fungus would be utterly crap, hate to say it (No dis towards ben) but Ben can't slap (or well) and considering most of Fungus was slap, or that 'slap sound' from Dirks digging fingerstyle, it'd suck.

Dirk WAS ASKED TO LEAVE. Simple. The band were taking a new direction and Dirk wanted to stay with the Fungus/Science/Some Make Yourself sound of things. It was even posted on the enjoyincubus.com site as news for a while.

Dirk's doing sound for video games nowadays. It's a shame. I love Ben, but I loved Dirk in Incubus and Ben more in The Roots

I'm pretty sure that at the moment Dirk Lance is a politician

I have never heard him slap, but, to me, he should slap well enough to play most of their older songs. Maybe the reason it sounds bad is that he uses flats, thus, they don't play songs with slap lines as much (if anything).

If you see the preogresion of albums by Incubus youll see they will starte beeing more funk and the go into some kind soft-prog thing tha Im sure Dirk Lance hated so probably he decided he should go out, or maybe been asked to do so.

And about slap lines, Incubus slaplines are quite simple and not difficult, any pro player should know how to slap to that level I guess.

Now he makes music for videogames as someone said, I remember someone posted the link to that webpage (a group of famous musicians that make music for videogames) some time ago.

I never liked Incubus that much but Ill never like it anymore.

He's been quoted to say something along the lines of 'I'm not good at slap, so i'll leave that up to the people who can do it, and do it well'.

The whole point of them asking Dirk to leave, was so that they wouldn't play most of their older stuff, hence alot of slap stuff.

Twopelu - 1. A few of Incubus slap lines are quite hard. 2. Ben is more a GUITARIST playing bass (He's been playing guitar for The Roots etc). 3. Proffesional's don't have to be able to slap to be professional.

It depends how you look at it.

SCIENCE and Fungus Amungus are my favourites, but I think Morning View is the most musical of all their CD's with Dirk, then Make Yourself.

Face it ACLOTM is just a great example of why dirk should of stayed :thumb: I hate that album except a couple of songs.

Most of them the drums have changed a lot and arent as technical and they werent that technical but they are getting into punk beats almost :(

Edit: Btw I put those two albums because I have both of them and I haven't heard all of the songs on the Science/Fungus. What are the best listens?

Just because it's not as technical, doesn't mean it's not as good.

I'm getting a bit tired of fans bagging Dirk and even the rest of the band because they're afraid to let them grow as musicians. (Not that you were directly saying that).

If you watch the Live at Red Rocks DVD, you'll see that Jose, and the rest of the guys, do indeed still have the technical ability, and then some.

Fungus: Medium, Speak Free (Nice little bass line), You will be a hot dancer, psychosilocybin (Nice little bass solo thing too), Trouble in 421, Shaft, Take me to your leader, Sink beneath the line, Hilikus, the answer... wait, that's the whole album :p

I do find, that as 'cool' as Fungus is, I can listen to Make Yourself and Morning View over and over again more, where I tire easily of fungus after a while.

i saw incubus with ben kenney last year and they played vitimin, certain shade of green, idiot box and anti-gravity love song (summer romance) so they play a few off s.c.i.e.n.c.e every now and then at least.

ooh and they played take me to your leader at one of there other shows they did in the UK

Re-recording Fungus Amongus with Ben Kenney would be an absolute crime, I'm glad that's only a rumor. Ben Kenney is good for his style, but I would choose Dirk over him any day...

the red rocks DVD is good, it gave me more respect for Ben... and the guys are definately still techincal and everything... (Mikes solo during Sick Sad Little World)

im curious if Dirk is still part of Stickman? haven't heard anything for a long time now... the whole politician thing is silly. wow.. haha.

dirk is one of the greatest bass players of modern times along with such greats as doug wimbish / noel redding / jack bruce / geezer butler / les claypool - he is a great player and i dont care what anyone says a crow left with the muder is the crappest album written by incubus ever - i will never buy anything that does not have dirk on it not becuase i am some sad fanatic becuase i belivethat the directiont hey are taking now is just plain wrong there are too many of these " alternative " bands around incubus were orginal ! there was nothing around @ that time that measured up to them and with ben kenny they are nothing just another talented band making $hit music
