Overall: 8.8/10

This is honestly the second best bass I've ever played (first place goes to a Yamaha Attitude 10th Anniversary). The reason I didn't give it the full 10 is that there are better basses out there, and also that it lacks some features that aren't at all necessary but that I personally would like, such as better electronics.

Factory set-up: 10/10

After being shipped from Germany to California to Niagara Falls, in a gig bag, it was in tune. I think that pretty much says it all. I have to tune it about once every one to two weeks, depending on how much I play it.

Playability: 9.5/10

I love it, and wouldn't change it for anything. If I ever got a custom instrument, I would have it play like this. Sheehan's custom does play better though...

Electronics: 6/10

They're not going to catch on fire or anything, but MEC kinda blows. How about switching to DiMarzio, or at least Seymour Duncan?

Tone: 9/10

I'd make a few changes if I could, like pickups and such, but the natural tone of this instrument is staggering. The famed Warwick growl to a velvety almost fretless smooth sound, this thing does everything I want it too.

Hardware: 10/10

The Warwick Just-A-Nut II is great, as is the amazingly adjustable bridge. The tuners are smooth, and once again this baby can stay in tune for weeks.

Others: Be aware that these instruments need to be waxed at least every two or three days during the first couple months you have them, and then once every two weeks or so afterwards. But for that wood, it's worth it. Also, my Corvette has a very distinctive figure to it that most bubinga does not. Just warning you guys, don't order one expecting it to come in like that^.

I actually don't mind the pickups, as they give the bass a traditional (yet growly) tone.

One thing to watch out for on these (or any other solid bubinga body bass), is that they are incredibly heavy. Easily the heaviest bass I've ever played. I owned one for a few months and had to buy a wider padded strap to distribute the weight more efficiently. Before buying the new strap, a two hour long practice would kill my shoulder. Just something to be aware of, they are definitely great basses, but the weight is murder.

Another thing to consider if any of you are looking for one of these. Models from 1998 thru present day are much different than the ones available from 1997 and before. Actually, the neck is what's different. The ones that were pre 98 had an all wenge neck, whereas the ones post 97 have an ovangkol neck with wenge fretboard (on fretted models). The other thing that changed was the neck profile. On the pre 98 models the neck was VERY slim, similar to a Geddy Lee jazz bass or Ibanez Soundgear. The newer models have a MUCH thicker neck, very similar to a P-Bass, but with a slightly deeper profile. Personal preferences will vary, but I much prefer the pre 98 models.

I tried that one out in the local musicstore yesterday. That was a nice one though the fingerboard felt kinda big, but it still was fun to play. I usually never slap, but I tried to slap that one and I could wich I think was cool. I'd buy that one if I do more slapping, but it costs too much and I'm still waiting to get Yamaha TRB1006. hopefully I get that one before the end of this month.

Both the Yammy and the Corvette and solid basses, but I would pick the corvette any day :naughty:

The problem with a Corvette is that they are somewhat overpriced for what they are, IMO.

I would still love one.

Ash corvettes are even better bang for your buck.

They are seriously cheap compared with other warwicks...

I don't find other Warwicks overpriced, just the Corvette.

The thumb is pretty much just a corvette with neck thru, different woods and a different preamp. Not worth like $3000 more than the vette.....

The vette is by the best warwick available money wise.

Ah, I forgot the thumb :p.

And I actually prefer the Fortress to the Corvette.

Shame they discontinued the fortress'

Then I saw Led_Zeppelin678's video solo... and sorry, but I didn't liked the sound out of it. I know he at least knows some **** about his bass and would know how to use it.

They aren't in my "Me Wannit" list.

Just because something sounds bad when recorded with a video cam doesnt mean it sounds like crap in RL. Saw a band a week ago, bass player used a corvette, sounded awesome.

Yep. And it also depends on your amp and personal preference as to what tone you like.

Things recorded with a handheld camera are never gonna sound good.

How he got that tone out of a Corvette still baffles me; he got something close to Sheehan's tone through a Warwick with J pups... :amaze:

I liked the tone, really. Then again, I like Sheehan's as well.

It was also through a Marshall guitar practice amp, not my Ampeg rig.

Yeah I was gonna say that, but i wasn't sure if it was a guitar amp or just a marshall bass amp. And I personally quite liked that tone you got anyways.

Great review man, great review. You should try out the FNA Jazzman LTD 2004 Corvette too. They're different, but equally as awesome...

You gave the electrics a 6/10, how would you compare them to fender active basses?, I'm asking cos I'm looking to buy a new bass with active pickups.

Such a lovely bass and they all have individual characteristics in the wood. I don't actually like the grain on yours Led Zep which is wierd looking in the left corner. Its all streaky and not my taste. By the pickups where you have obviosly rested your thumb is all greasy and dirty so give it a clean :)

Really? I think Led Zep's grain rocks. I have a spot above the pickup where i rest my thumb where the wood has gone a bit weird from sweat or whatever. Not badly or anything though. I've been waxing that area lots to try and keep out any liquid.

Its a lovely grain but im just comparing it to Warwicks I have seen. And it really is a sexy bass.

hmm im just going to wash my hands every time a play it and when ever neccesary clean it before it builds up

Yeah i usually wash my hands to help keep strings clean etc, but if i'm playing an hour long set or whatever, I don't have chance to wash my hands during it. After I wax it it usually looks better anyway.

What are you going for btw, 4,5,6?

Im going for the 4 sting. I have owned a 5 string and a 6 string. Although they were cheap and crappy more than 4 does not float my boat. I just want 24 frets. They come in handy and from my experiance it makes all the other higher frets more easily accessible which is great i think.

BTW can i be in the MX Warwick Club when I get her? I hear your club house is the best. :D
