MXican Radio #1: The Wildhearts

http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y10/yourmumsayshi/wildhearts.jpg "The Wildhearts were truly England's last great rock 'n' roll band..." Kerrang! magazine "The Wildhearts were the kind of band that the British rock press has wet dreams about: creatively brilliant, completely out-of-control, and utterly doomed from day one. Led by charismatic lunatic..." VH1 "Wildhearts mastermind Ginger knows the value of a bad reputation. And in the eleven years since they bounded into the public ear with their seminal debut "Earth Versus The Wildhearts" they've re-written the book on mischief. Magazine offices wrecked…drugs taken…fights fought…vehicles driven into swimming pools. You name it, The Wildhearts have had their greasy little paws all over it, then got bored with it..." contactmusic.com This band is probably the most influetial British band of the 90s. This is one of those bands who knew what rock 'n' roll was all about and, even though Ginger's excesses got in the way of success, wrote brilliant songs. I have only been into the band for about a week but I am already hooked and absorbed into the band. This is a band I would highly recommend to ANYBODY. In August of 1989 David Walsh (AKA.Ginger) created a band called The Wild Hearts. It's original line-up was Snake (vocals), Ginger (guitar), CJ (guitar), Julien Dean (Bass), Andrew 'Stid' Stidolph (drums) And so began of one of the most influential British bands of the 90s. Not soon after the creation of the band they created a demo which was heard by Ric Browde who signed them up to Atco Label. Stid is replaced by Pat Walkers and Ric Browde produces The Wild heart's demos. Snake is replaced Dunken F. Mullet and The Wild Hearts play a low-key support slot at the George Robey in Finsbury Park, London. The gig is billed as a 'Sleaze All Dayer'. In March 1991 Ginger, CJ, Joolz and Pat play Nottingham Rock City as a four-piece, Snake having left the band the previous day. Eventually, after numerous auditions fail to turn up a new vocalist, Ginger takes on lead vocal duties permanently. The Wild Hearts went into the studio in December 1991 and recorded their first EP. The Wild hearts then changed there name to The Wildhearts. The Wildhearts then toured and recorded EPs until they released there debut album Earth Vs. The Wildhearts on the 31st August 1993. This album was a raving success and it was all seemed to be going brilliantly for The Wildhearts until July 1994 when CJ was sacked for unknown reasons. The Wildhearts then hirer Devin Townsend to replace CJ. This is the main jist of the creation of The Wildhearts. I could go into it with far more detail and I could carry on the story but it would take me ages :). Discography Don't be happy...just worry (EP) Earth Vs. A very good introduction to the band which is a live album with alot of there more famous tracks on. So why are you just sitting there? Get off your ass to the shops and get yourself some Wildhearts! So basically discuss anything in this thread. What you think of The Wildhearts, your favourite albums/song, if you have never heard the Wildhearts before do you like the yousendits and are you going to go out and get some more of there stuff? Also, who else is excited about the re-release of Black Leather mojo? http://www.thewildhearts.com/index.shtml Edit: Apologies if this thread sucks I was incredibly tired while writing it |
A lot of work went into this thread, so kudos to you. Nicely done.
|
I liked those songs quite a bit...
I need to find some of their stuff and soon. Good job on the thread. |
I just checked them out about 30 minutes ago when you potsed two songs in the community thread. Good stuff I must say.
|
I just started liking them a few hours ago.
I've been missing out. |
Thankyou all for the possitive feedback :). I have added some additional mp3s
|
I had downloaded a few of their songs the other day after seeing them mentioned around here, for some reason they remind me of GTA: VIce City, crusing down the long roads, not a bad thing at all. Good music.
Great thread. EDIT: Two of the new links are the same. |
They don't seem to be
|
They don't seem to be
My baby is a head**** and Greetings From Shitville are the same link. Thanks for the extra songs though. :thumb: |
Oh yeah, thanks :thumb:

Ginger released a solo album recently |
The stuff on the solo album (bar three songs) was all previously released material, though.
|
I'm diggin' it. I'm trying to Soulseek an album right now.
Edit: The return of Mr. Claypool! |
MXican, do you know where I could get The Wildhearts Strike Back?
allmusic.com couldn't even find it in their database. |
http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/B00030CH2Q/qid=1113113296/sr=1-1/ref=sr_1_10_1/026-6849594-4017259
Edit:I checked amazon.com and it isn't there either. Maybe a British exclusive CD? |
Cool.. I listened to those MP3s.. NP: Nita Nitro
|
Great Band, and I can see you put the effort in so well done.
|
The stuff on the solo album (bar three songs) was all previously released material, though.
He had more written, I think, but didn't release them at all. |
Yeah, I know. That's why it's all previously released stuff, instead of new material :)
MXican, do you know where I could get The Wildhearts Strike Back? allmusic.com couldn't even find it in their database.
Well it's a relatively new album, and a live album, so I wouldn't imagine it's a top priority..why have you got your sights set on Strike Back, anyway? |
Do an FA on this awesome band. I got PHUQ the other day, truly great.
'Just... In lust.... With you!' |

'Just... In lust.... With you!'
Meh I am not a fan of writing long things. I like it at this length :) |
Yeah, I know. That's why it's all previously released stuff, instead of new material :)
I guess that's a fair point. |
What would you suggest as to what is their top 3 albums?
I am going to be looking for these guys in the stores...so it would be cool to have some suggestions. /bumpz0red |
Earth Vs. The Wildhearts (There debut and one of there best)
The Wildhearts Strike Back (A live album with most of there hits on. Most of the tracks I uploaded were off this album) P.H.U.Q |
Well it's a relatively new album, and a live album, so I wouldn't imagine it's a top priority..why have you got your sights set on Strike Back, anyway?
It seems like something logical I would start out with. :-\ Recommend anything instead? |
Earth vs the Wildhearts, their debut, is still what I consider their best full-length, regular album release, and is what I'd recommend first and foremost. P.H.U.Q., their second album, is also excellent, and slightly more mature, I suppose, but I hold it slightly below Earth vs.
I'd advise against getting Endless, Nameless or Landmines and Pantomimes as a first purchase for them. The former because it was their last album before they initially broke up in 1998, and it has a very strange, grating, pseudo-industrial production on it. Still some great stuff there, it's just kind of hidden. The latter because it was released against the band's wishes by their (evil) record company after they had broken up, and is really just an odds'n'sods collection of roughly mixed of song ideas they had been throwing about at the time. If you want newer stuff (Vanilla Radio, OCD, etc), I'd recommend the excellently named Riff After Riff After Motherfucking Riff. It received both a Japanese and an American release, so you should be able to find it easily enough. The releases themselves are a little different from each other, though. For live albums, I'd probably put ..Strike Back third in a list of three that I know of (read: can think of at the moment), behind Tokyo Suits Me (a Japanese import, which you're kind of unlikely to find) and Anarchic Airwaves (which is a live set recorded for the BBC, along with a small BBC studio session). It's still well worth buying, though, for the awesome cover as much as the music contained within. It'll have newer songs on too, which neither of the others do. That said, you could just ignore all this advice and buy anything you can get your hands on. It's unlikely (in my eyes, impossible) that you'd end up with something you just plain didn't want (apart from maybe the two mentioned above), and when I first got into the band, I didn't follow reason at all. I heard one song, loved it, and went out and spent £38.99 on a Japanese import best of, more or less blind. |
Thanks for the advice Bart :)
I'll look more into them before making a decision. |
No problem. I should be able to upload a few more tracks for you when I'm back at University, if you want.
|
Any early stuff would be great.
Thanks again. |
Is this THE Devin Townsend that was mentioned in the article? Because if so, I'm definetely intrigued.
|
I really like Riff After Riff, not only because it was the first album I got from Bartender/Munky_Magik.
Great band, I love how they blend so many influences into a fun, energetic vibe based around punk/rock. |
Is this THE Devin Townsend that was mentioned in the article? Because if so, I'm definetely intrigued.
Yeah, it is :) He joined them as a temporary guitarist around 1995, and I think he did vocals on a b-side around their weird, Endless Nameless period, in 1997. When they reformed in 2001/2002, he toured as their support, and basically had fun thrashing the Wildhearts fan-dominated crowd to within an inch of their collective life every night. |
so what's going on with Ginger? He was working with Brides of Destruction and then suddenly left...anyone know why?
|
I have no idea why he left either.
Apparently, according to someone on here, he's writing more solo stuff. He'll be doing something though, you can count on that. I hope he just gets back to The Wildhearts soon, and decides to tour again :) |
I think the reason given was just that it wasn't working out with the Brides, with no more elaboration. I'm glad he left, though.
|
I'm interested as to how it would've turned out.
|
I haven't actually heard brides :upset:
