Here is a blank tab sheet I also made. You can print out copies, and use them to tab your own music.

Here is the link to download adobe reader if you need it. It is free.

Awesome stuff man, I was looking at the old cheat sheet the other day thinking how useful it would be to have a five string version, you must have read my mind! Good work :thumb:
what does the R stand for on the major scales - i guess the X is where you put your fingers
The r stands for Root. It is the root note of the scale. :thumb:

You sir, are sexy.

jameschez 03-22-2005 04:23 AM

hmm....iv been playing bass for roughly a year and a half but ive never really looked much into the theory (mostly because it confuses me!), your sheet really helps with scale positions (now when our guitarist says hes playing in g minor il now what to do!!) but what does the chord formula's bit mean (the table on the right handside with a series of numbers)? ive tried to understand the circle of fiths but i cant make any sense of it either.

Romanticide 03-22-2005 04:31 AM

its all good...
good job.

jamesr 03-22-2005 09:52 AM
but what does the chord formula's bit mean (the table on the right handside with a series of numbers)?
Those are the notes that make up that chord. so if it says 1st 3rd 5th, to build that chord you would take the scale of the chord you wanted. If it was an A major chord then the notes would be 1st=A 3=C# 5th=E. you would just go in the order the scales are written out in the table beside the formulas.

The circle of 5ths has many uses, you can build scales from it, chord progressions. Aslo when writing songs notes closer sound better, and going clock wise makes the song sound like it is moving forward, and going counterclock wise makes the song sound like it is slowing down.

Bass_swede 03-22-2005 10:05 AM

Thanks mister!

I've been looking after the circle of fifths.

Kayetan 03-22-2005 11:13 AM

Good job. I like it.

CrAyZeEbAsS 03-23-2005 01:45 AM

Well done Jamesr!!!

That is a great short cut. Now, instead of rifling thru a bunch of bits n pieces of paper, its all in front of me!!!

What an excellent contribution to the community!!

Good show ol chap!! :)

yeah but dont think in terms of that scale shape... that limits you...

think of the notes that are in that shape... that helps alot

Cerberust 12-12-2005 03:26 PM

Worth posting a reply to. Very nice and organized :)

Manticore Guy 12-12-2005 03:38 PM

I've had this on my desktop since it was posted.... long time. Good stuff

EADG 12-12-2005 06:40 PM

One thing though, I thought the 17th fret, G string was middle C, not the 5th.

Other than that, it was great, recommended to any bassist.
