Alright folks, we're back with the forced listening. You should know the rules, but here's an outline.

You must review the song the user suggests. Do a decent overall review of the song. You should also give it a rating, although it is not required. The purpose of these reviews is for you to check out new things, so don't review a song you have already heard.

After you review you should list a few songs for the next person to review. Give artst, title, and a gist of the genre. If a song is hard to find, point the person to the song. Most songs can be found on Soulseek quite easily ([url]http://www.slsknet.org[/url])

If you would like to do the next song, you must call dibs. Your dibs last 2 hours, and after that, it can be taken. A new rule has been put into place on MX. There is to be no songs illegally uploaded anywhere (this includes YouSendIt, MegaUpload, and others) and a link posted on this site. This is a safety measure inacted by the owner of these forums to keep himself and the users out of trouble. There's a short drum intro before the guitars kick in witht he sound of someone whooping the background. Then the vocals kick in. The guys voice sounds a bit like Shane McGowan's at times and the music is reminiscent of bands like The Pogues and Flogging Molly but has it's own style. It's quite slow but is bouncy. The lyrics are okay and the guy's voice is good. At points there's some background vocals which work well. I liked this song although I kept thinking it was going to speed up and it never did. It's quite short but it was short and sweet. 7/10

Starts out with a little guitar intro and bass line to set the groove for the rest of the song, then comes drums and more guitar, then vocals, jello wisphers the lyrics quite slow and soft compared to DKS other songs, this song sets up citizens as chickens and corporate mosters running the chicken farm. then the chorus that leads into a louder chorus and then a little solo riff and somemore verse, 'going dooooooooooooowwwwwwnnnn to the chiocken farm" repeated a few times with different chords, then another solo and more, this song is pretty boring accually

6/10 , i was disappointed, nothing compared to anything of FFFRV
i would reconmend some true classics for anyone who is interested in Dead Kennedys
such as : holiday in cambodia, viva las vegas, or california uber alles
basically anything off Fresh Fruit For Rotting Vegatables

No Woman No Cry.
Starts off with a smooth Organ? part, then the bass drum and hi hats join in with a bit of rythm, solid bass groove aswell.
i feel Bob Marley is an increble lyricist and his singing is pretty good aswell, but its his emotion that i feel makes him one of the best singers / songwriters about, although i love NWNC i find this song one of his less great songs, it gets a little repetitive and for the only thing that breaks the repitiveness is the guitar solo, but then again practically everyone can sing along to this song so the simpleness has obviously made this song a legendary!

8/10 - its a great song dont get me wrong, but i suggest listening to some of his other stuff, Buffalo soilder, Three Little Birds, and my favourite - Redemption Song

wow, im listening to this song, pretty **** good, i love the vocals, the horn section is good, good rythem, nice guitar tone.
drums come in with a scampering beat, then he talks about doodie, doodie, heh, horns come in, one trumpet and trombone, then guitar and whinin horns, same basically throughout song

This band got me into ska and punk. This also happens to be my favorite songs by them. The song starts off with some good ol horns and sonds very well. The drums kick in and it starts off. The song is slow and mellow but with a good mood. As far as it goes with ska - punk I all ready know this band does it well. :wave:

Im not a usual fan of rap, but I really like some rap, Nwa just happens to be one of the artists I like. This song feats. Ice cube in it too. The rhymes in this song are phat. Its starts off saying **** the police, then it has a little intro thing, then it strats off with ice cube laying down his rhymes. The beat to this song is awesome too, then Nwa starts laying down their rhymes. This song is a good song, reminds me how much the police suck.

[B]Saves the Day - Jukebox Breakdown[/B]

A nice little drum roll starts this one off. The guitars in the verse are quite crunchy and catchy and very lively. The beat reminds me so much of Weezer, which is a bit odd. So far so good. Chris' voice is in its usual level of whinyness that I find tolerable and better than a lot of other whiny singers.

What strikes me the most about STD is how they can pull off seemingly generic songs like this(especially when they got a tad poppier) with charm and honesty. I like how the backup "aooooohh"s in the bridge is used, it heightens the song's teenybopper lightheartedness. There's not much to say about the structure, 'cause it's fairly straightforward and formulaic. But still, it's a very good song.

There's a quick intro on guitar before the vocals kick in. The intro riff continues with the vocals over it which works well but I immediately didn't like the vocals as they just sound really generic. At about 0:30 there's a change in the music with some ambient sort of sound in the background. Again this sound really generic and predictable to me. There's an improvement at about 0:50 with a heavier section featuring a really cool simple riff which goes straight back into the verse which spoils it again with the sh[I]itt[/I]y vocals. A 1:30 there's another (different) cool heavy section which drags on for a bit changing riffs every now and then before coming to a stop at about 3:15. Then it's straight back to the generic stuff which carries on to the end of the song. There's some good stuff in this song but also a lot of s[U]h[/U]it stuff. If you like alternating between headbanging and being mind-numbingly bored you'll love this song. 5/10

Well, what to say about this song...It starts with a catchy and known by all guitar riff that could be called a little solo, then he starts singing. The vocals are quick and catchy. This song is very old as you all know and the rythm is quite hmm...not slow but don't know how to explain, there's a piano, a bass and drums, and no guitar except the soloing that Chuck Berry does, so the sound is very clean, and seems to be slower than the rock average. The song is extremely catchy, what is more catchy is the chorus (go, johnny go, go), and the guitar is pretty good with some little fills and solos. Well, the truth is that a more energic version could kick *** (and kicks, it has been done), but it's a very good and catchy one. And the original, yay!

This song starts off with an awesome bass line, going with a little bit of high hat until about 10 seconds in, and then some guitar starts. The guitar is going off on it's own. Great guitar riff, just great. Then more drums kick in, going VERY FAST. It sounds like everything speeds up right now, bassline still standing good though. Guitar still sounding great also, I really love this little riff he's playing, it's great. Then the vocals cut in, standard Tim vocals. Aww, vocals sound like he lost a girl... :upset: ... :) . Stuff slows down for the chorus. After the 2nd verse, theres a little guitar solo. Standard Rancid solo, go nontheless. After the solo it picks right back up into verse. Then one more chorus, and end. 8/10

Starts off with claping and chanting at first. The drums join 10 seconds in, then the guitar 15 seconds in. Straight into a ska riff. A very nice one, a nice groove. Chrous comes in. The riff stays the same but the vocals change a bit. After the chrous the drums and clap come, then quickly go. It seems as one guitar plays the riff, there is another one in the background doing a tiny little solo thing. Back to the chrous. Song is very good, awesome ska. Drums come again after the second chrosu, then glass breaking. Now a small solo from the second guitar and with the bass becoming a little promident in the song. Back to the other riff for the verse. Continues like this for a bit. Third chrous, to the drums and clapping. The song does a end riff, and its over. Pretty good song 8/10

Dick Dale - Bandito

I've heard the song he had on Pulp Fiction before, so Dick Dale wasn't completely foriegn to me. This song wasn't quite as good, but there was one riff near the beginning that was pretty rad, I think it was at around 15 seconds into it. I liked it a lot, though. Mr. Dale plays a mean surf guitar. Anyone who likes surf rock should be digging Dick Dale. 8/10

orignaly a good song. the cover was not so brilliant. its off time, out of tune at times and out of key sometimes. but i give them credit for trying to play an awsome song. they didnt toaly butcher it, it was an alright cover. its worth taking a listen if youve never heard it before.

I've had this album for a while, never gave it a listen though. Starts out with a little guitar and some yelling vocals. "Death to the population...". Then starts a nice little guitar riff, I like it. Drums are going already also. Then drums speed up as the verse starts. Basic punk drum beat, but I like it. Then a short little chorus, not to catchy. After the second verse and chorus, theres a nice little guitar solo. After that it sounds like everything speeds up again. One more verse, and then end. Alright song, not really up my alley though 5/10

starts with just bass and feedback. drums and guitars kick in quickly after, along with shouted vocals. good song nothing special, standard hardcore stuff.

at about 1.30 the song changes, it's not a breakdown, but the beat changes, and a new riff, more single notes than chords and the singer still doing vocals. it comes to end with feedback again, but just the drums start, playing a faster beat than before. bass, vocals and guitar al start up again, until the song ends.

like hardcore? you'll like this

Starts off with what sounds like a plane, followed by gunfire.The guitar comes in a few seconds later. Pretty generic Uk82 sound but in a good way, accompianied by lyrics about life in thatchers britain. Good song, pretty catchy. It ends with an air raid siren at around the 2 minute mark. Overall good song - 8/10

From the outset it's obvious this is Irish music with the flutes and guitar creating an image of an irish coastal village. It's got a sort of spooky vibe to it as well. The guy's vocals are quite soft and unmistakably Irish. It's all quite quiet until about 30 seconds when the music kicks in properly. It's very Flogging Molly but the guy's boice is very different. THe flutes are really stand out and sound really good but the other music is fine as well. There's some background vocals on the chorus section to emphasise it. At about 1:20 there's an instrumental section with some really cool string stuff. After this it just repeats the chorus a few times in different ways before quickly stopping. I liked this song. It was really catchy and well arranged. If you like Flogging Molly or Dropkick then you'll like this. If you don't then you should still check it out. 8/10

Blondie kicks, this song right off the back sounds like a song youll hear at a gas station for some reason, at least to me it does, so yea, debbies waiting for a call, but somehow they make it interesting, i dont like the vocals on this song though, guitar is VERY cool, the drums literaraly keep everything together, but yea, this songs downfall is on the verse, debbie harry just sounds whiny and kind of anoying, BUT WAIT, then the course comes in and its all worth while

This is a techno song singed in Romanian or Moldavian. It was the summer music in Europe and it has one of me most annoing chorus invented in the history of music. The suumer music is a song that have a huge hype on the summer months raching the top of the charts and beying played at all time in the discos, pubs and clubs.
The lyrics are about a guy that loves a girl and she wants to leave him and he's asking her to stay.
The music is a simple techno with the same beat all the time.
A short review to a music short in essence.

[b]Cult Of Luna - Echoes[/b]

Ambient start, sparse guitar notes echo through this foggy soundscape. Soft drums join in at about 2 minutes. At 3 minutes the guitar changes to some higher stuff for a bit, returns to the usual riff.

After 4 minutes things start to pick up, thick bass and tribal drumming. It stops for a beat, then returns with a heavy slow moshy bit. 6 minutes in and the the vocalist starts, he screams hc style, and it's kind of deep for screaming. The music seems simple but not basic, if that makes sense, a bit like The Gathering. It chugs on slowly for another 4 minutes with various riffs, high ambient notes, and screams, then quietens down for the last 2 minutes and fades out to the end.

The music was somewhat interesting, simple but good. Unusual to hear the vocals its matched with, I don't like screamed vocals to start with, but it wasn't overpowering.

It's starts off with an acoustic intro that was technically okay but pretty generic. It sort of gave off a spooky feel and after about 40 seconds there's some weird vocals that fade in in the background and continue the spooky feel. The drums also kick in around here. After this the vocals come in. These too are really weak and crappy. Tis whole song is just too wishy-washy. The floaty vocals continue into a section with some cymbals and something else in the background. This song is just far too bland. The lyrics just bore me along with everything else with this song. The whole song just screams out "thirtysomething trying to look cool by buying a chill-out album." It was a struggle to make it to the end awake. A great song for curing insomnia. Safe to say it isn't taking up any of my hard-drive space any more. 1/10

Starts off with a pretty nice poppy riff, I really like it. Then a soft soft symble note and some synth, or maybe it's an effect. Whateva d00d. Then more drums kick in and the bass kicks in. Pretty nice bass riff too. The guitar starts to sound more countryish as the song starts to pick up. Then theres some keyboard. Sounds real real nice. Playing along the same lines as the guitar. Then at around 0:20 Jello starts in with the vocals. "I cried when they shot John Lennon". You don't really notice the chorus, it's basically "Love me, I'm a liberallllll". Then right up into the next verse. Then another chorus, then verse. I really like the lyrics of this song. And this whole duet album thing in general. All the songs are well thought out and f'ucking hilarious. Typical Jello, awesome. Chorus after chorus, verse after verse. But! Its not boring yet, because the lyrics are pretty dayum good. Then it goes into a type of breakdown type thing, then right back into a keyboard solo. Back into verse, then chorus. Then last chorus, a bit extended. Jello and I guess Mojo yelling i'm a liberal and stuff. Overall 7/10

With each line being followed by a cry of "Work! Or War!" There's a short bass section then some more vocals. A scream leads into a different section which is just as furious and just as cool. Then there's another break which goes back to the intro. Then it just repeats most of the song again. This is a really cool song. 9/10

Sounds bouncy and almost electronic at the start, just drums/percussion and some bubbly bell sound. A guy talks about possiblities in the future, and asks "how did I get here?"
Then some bouncy guitar and melodic singing, something about water flowing and not letting the days go by.

The second spoken verse is a contrast to the first one, things are not so good in this future, he questions everything. Same chorus again. Then a new part, same drums and stuff but a new guitar and synth melody "Same as it ever was" is repeated a few times. He starts saying more stuff about water and theres lots of echo on his voice in parts.

Chorus. More spoken questions about new possiblities. Chorus yet again.
Same as it ever was bit again, with different guitar, and then it fades out.

Pretty simple sounding, poppy, I guess it was more about the words than the music. Nothing great about it or anything special to me, but it wasn't bad. 6.4/10

if this is the best this band can do....then they suck, a 3 minute song, with 2 riffs

It starts with a cool guitar riff that repeats throughout the song with some cymbals. Another guitar comes in and then the drums kick in properly at about 0:10. THere's some good guitar work and the beat continues and complements it well. THe vocals kick in at about 0:22 and they're okay. At about 0:45 the music stops and there's a bit with some background vocals before the incessant beat starts again and this works really well to break up the song and stop it getting too repetitive. The lyrics are okay. There's some more guitar work at about 1:10 which is okay but works well with the song and at 1:27 there's a solo which again complements the song well although it does drag on for a while. At 2:00 it goes back into the verse and then repeats the fading out section a few times before the end of the song. I liked this song although it wasn't anything special. If you like this sort of stuff then you'll enjoy it but if you don't then this won't change your mind. 7/10

From the beginning there is a nice sounding guitar riff, drums and bass come in at about 00:05, the lyrics come in at about 00:09, they're not that bad, they sound sort of warn, and they sort of remind me of the misfits. Theres a solo that kicks in at about 01:10 which fits in pretty good with the song, it lasts for about 10 seconds or so and then it drops to a lower solo for about another 10 seconds. all in all its not a bad song, the lyrics are kinda humorous if you listen to them, I give it a 7/10.

First of all this is a quite long song for being a punk song. You can easily label the song in two parts. Let's go for the first part: It starts very slow. Some piano and the vocals. Then enters a trumpet and the bass. Cool slow bass with slides pull-offs and that sort of things. If you like slow songs it's an ok part. I'd give it a 6.5...But, after 2.2 minutes prepare yourself for a kickass song. It starts with a flute and a violin doing a very catchy "riff". Then the drums kick in with some yeah's and so by the vocals. And then guitar, bass and vocals kick in properly. The verse vocals and music are very good in my opinion. Every now and then the flute and violin redo the riff and every now and then also the guitar does some tiny solo. At If you don't mind a 6 minutes song (whole song) with a 2 minutes slow intro and if you like Flogging molly's style you'll love this song as much as I do. First part is not that good and that's why I'll give it an 8.5/10

then comes a surf like guitar lick thats very east bay ray like if you will, hence: one string turning to power chords, jellos vocals are amazing in this entire record, so paranoid and yet so dominating and smug at the same time, it seems he is THE grand poet of underground music ( my opinion)
anyway, this song is about how jello sees a resemblance between hitler and jerry brown, something like that, this comes from the third riech song "Deutschland uber Alles" or Germany over All, my own translation oohh rightt, anyway

This is a nice, very well done rock number. I don't really know what genre to put this with but it's good music anyway, and that's all that really matters, right?

The song opens with a sort of ambient guitar riff, and as more is added the song builds and progresses, climbing to its peak, and descends with a guitar solo that can only be described as pretty. The singing goes really well with the song, and despite how heavy or the song gets, the singing never becomes too easy or too intense to match the music. I've never heard this band before, but I'm definitely going to have to hear more. Overall, I give this 8/10.

the vocals are sung by a guy and a woman, with the guy singing the majority of them. the girl has the standard, sort of whiny 77 style voice (think beki bondage)

overall, while there is nothing particuarly standout about this song, it is done well

The intro is really jaunty with cool guitars and what sounds like some sort of piped instrument. The vocals kick in pretty wuickly. The lyrics tell a story about a private eye and the voice isn't very good but the music is excellent and it all fits together really well. It's quite sparse with mostly just drums, clapping and bass with singing over it with little guitar bits. The verses repeat a couple of times with some really cool musical varitaions. THere's a solo about 2:30 that's just as cool. The lyrics are quite depressing but the music makes it into a really happy song. I really liked this song. IT was bouncy and fun but the music was a lot better than the vocals or lyrics. 8/10

This is an average nice song. It starts very slow like some rock and roll ballad, the guitars letting notes sound and a nice bass line. Then the song starts with a very nice although easy guitar “solo” and the lyrics enter just after it. The chorus is nice and catchy, and at the end of it a tiny bass line to arrive again to the little guitar riff-solo. Another time the catchy chorus and another time the solo, this time longer and nicer. Then a slow bridge similar to the intro that goes even slower while the singer says whoaaaa. Just now the chorus another time, repeated again a little bit faster and a nice little tiny outro in retardando...Typical catchy pop-punk song

but for most RATM fans this album was a huge let down because some people thought they sold out or somthing
ANYWAY, this one i like because i used to know a ton of songs from a lng time ago then just picked it up and got the political meaning of it all, not that the deeper meaning is anything new...

anyway 9.5/10 9.5 because its too long on the verses and the entire song is too short, but i wouldnt really change anything about it
