Bass injury's

i saw this topic some were else and it was funny as hell so any one got any Bass injurys. I was bleeding the fist time i learned to slap but other than that iv had none.

Saitoku 11-17-2004 01:25 AM

Ummm... I get blisters sometimes if I play slap for waaay too long. But I've got pretty good calluses, so it doesn't happen much.

I've also accidentally whacked one of my friends in the head with the head of my bass when I was turning around once.

Valdris 11-17-2004 08:27 AM

I hit the edge of my thumb (the bone part) on the edge of my P-Pickup.

Espbassor 11-17-2004 08:30 AM

I've yet to truly injure myself through playing except when my wrist becomes real sore. Hasn't happened in a while though. I might get a bass related injury though when I tell Valdris that I keep reading his user title :thumb:

crahn 11-17-2004 08:31 AM

years ago when i first started playing i literally played untill my fingers bled

i also got some nasty blisters from sliding a bit of the verse in wake up

Bass Playing Gremlin 11-17-2004 10:02 AM

I tripped over my amp and whacked my head on my bass resulting it in falling over and hitting me.

Khanzo 11-17-2004 10:22 AM

i have had friends i have injured. nive p bass tuning pegs, span around quick, friend behind me, pegs meet face, friend meets floor, quite funny really, best i have had isnt an injury, when i first got my bass i played it for hours and hours and only have about 4 days did i notice my fingers cracking (well the skin) and because i have a reaction to nickel about 5 layers of skin pealed of the end of most of my fingers so far that it bled in places because there was no skin left, so i stopped for about 4 weeks for a decent heal got some stainless steel strings and havent had a problem since

Bass+Fingers+Amp=Groove 11-17-2004 10:29 AM

Hmm, nothing much i have my friend who is the rythem guitarist in my band. During a few heated jam sessions

naut 11-17-2004 10:31 AM

one time my bass bitch-slapped me for a change.:amaze:

jamesr 11-17-2004 10:40 AM

The only thing I injure is my pride, when i screw up on stage.

exit 11-17-2004 12:51 PM

first day i played i played for 6 hours straigth trying out all kind of exercices and the next day i couldnt move my wrist

Toda i have something weird in the muscle below my thumb... I cant put pressure on my strings or it hurts there... very weird

EDIT: i just managed to crack my thumb and all is fine again... lol i think it maybe was a nerve in a wrong place :smash:
practicing time again :D

bassist-bmxer 11-17-2004 01:20 PM

i have loads of bruises on my arm and my back from trying to fling my bass round my body, but i can do it now :D

reidster90 11-17-2004 02:14 PM

I injure myself all the time and I have countless bruises and cuts. I better start chilling out or my arms going to fall off. Maybe I should start using fingers more since I've broken all my picks. I've already dug like a 1 inch hole in my pickguard :amaze:

dragoman 11-17-2004 02:27 PM

How about hearing loss...

jamesr 11-17-2004 02:55 PM
How about hearing loss...
123... GOOD POINT! I didn't even think of that.

bassman04 11-17-2004 03:09 PM

Do any of you get sore arms when playing sitting down, and all cramped up? Whenever I practice with my band I have to stand!

Raiven 11-17-2004 03:20 PM

My tendons have been a bit iffy recently. But hey it's all under control.

Khanzo 11-17-2004 03:25 PM
Do any of you get sore arms when playing sitting down, and all cramped up? Whenever I practice with my band I have to stand!
bassdude2 11-17-2004 03:41 PM

bassist-bmxer 11-17-2004 03:46 PM
my pic fell out of my hand and hit my toe i almost broke my toe good thing i was wearing shoes
that must some bloody heavy pick!

aks_29 11-17-2004 03:53 PM

I was standing once and my strap came off the part of the bass closer to the neck, and the bass slid down on one side and the other side came up and hit me in the face, it wasn't really an injury, but it hurt a lot

neal_672 11-17-2004 03:53 PM
my pic fell out of my hand and hit my toe i almost broke my toe good thing i was wearing shoes
Were you playing with a brick or something  how can a pick break your foot.

Erm i've cut myself a few times slapping and i've accidently poked myself in the eye with my tuning peg before :thumb:

BassVirtuoso 11-17-2004 04:16 PM

Well this one time. I was using a faulty strap. It felt like it was going to break the whole time I was playing it felt like it was going to fall down. Then at the last song I thought, well thank god it's over, then of course, nothing happens.

Then I slapped the guy who sold me the strap in the face with that stupid piece of crap strap.

Yeah you weren't expecting that.

peeted 11-17-2004 04:24 PM

iv had many a bloody thumb cos of double thumbing (as i have right now)

ResistantCell 11-17-2004 05:37 PM

During a gig in one of our heavier songs, I "pulled back" on my neck from a hunched over position and caught my vocalist square in the temple. Personally, when I first started slapping, I caught the edge of a pickup and dislocated my finger from how **** hard I hit it. Fun times....

Kibuddy 11-17-2004 05:43 PM

As with peeted, double thumping has claimed a lot of blood from my thumb.

FunkMetalBass 11-17-2004 05:58 PM

I was once slapping and popping so agressively, that I snapped my g-string (the one on the bass, not the one I was wearing). Not only did it make my fingers bleed, but it also whiplashed up and cut me right under my eye and a little across the cheek.

I was watching my friend's band this one time, and the bassist snapped a string, but kept playing so that he didn't ruin the song. After the song we realized that the string had gone into his arm about 5 inches. It kind of went parallel to his arm, so it looked like something was crawling underneath his skin. It was wicked cool. Don't know how he didn't feel it though...

Actually, I was expecting a circus midget to jump on stage and break your strap, sending your bass to come crashing down to the ground.

ScorpSath 11-17-2004 06:22 PM

For some odd reason so did I!

Vaelroth 11-17-2004 06:32 PM

Bleeding fingers from slapping and popping.

I've also nearly lit myself on fire. Too many people with matches and lighters with too big of a cab... somebody farted and it got lit 'cause the match blew over toward it... yea. Not fun.

that happend to me once to, once i was checking the wiring on my amp because it was crackeling and it was still plugged in......i got shocked so bad that my hand went numb for a few minutes

Thonk 06-03-2006 10:10 PM

I didn't think people even looked at threads this old..

Criss Frantic 06-03-2006 10:46 PM

Oh well, it's been bumped, might as welll make the most of it.
At the local battle of the bands last year, I was up the front going nuts for a friend's band (after my band had played, so i was pumped up), i was pogo-ing and jumping around, then the bass player decided to come right up to the edge of the stage and start swinging his bass up and down. You can guess what happened....I jumped up, the bass swung down, and my eye felt the cold hard fury of the pointy bit of a MM S.U.B headstock. Cut through my eyelid, bled like a bastard all over the floor, and man was my head ringing! Luckily it was a nice clean split so I didn't need stitches. They're still trying to get my blood of the floor of the hall

lais817 06-03-2006 11:33 PM

hehehe, I like it ^^^^, very "punk rock". lol, yeah, I've had all the usual bleeding fingers and stuff from slapping and playing too long. ah, fun times

faelun 06-04-2006 12:43 AM

first time i tried slapping, i missed and hit the very edge of the frettboard and dislocated my thumb partially(felt like it ne ways) hurt like a bitch

and the usualy wrist from playing too much

fleakeepr666 06-04-2006 01:02 AM

I've electricuted myself more times than I can count. This one time (I'm in the school band) we were playing at a basketball game and the other team were taking free throws and it was a really close game. So I stood up and started smashed the metal chair I was sitting on into the ground. I did it for about a minute and when I finally let go I couldn't feel the right side of my body. Apparently, I was electricuting myself the entire time, but was too worked up in the game to realize it.

Other than that, nothing to major.

Viscous Fridge Magnet 06-04-2006 07:10 AM

Once i jumped and hit myself in the head with my headstock.

Another time, rather more comically, i was jamming with a couple of friends in the attic in my garage. There's *** loads of boxes up there full of construction equipment (my dad owns a quarry). Anyway, i sat on a box, thinking it was full. It wasn't.
