Need a new drummer to practice.
I started on drums a year ago and started w/ Travis Barker and various good drummers. I got their good songs down, and i am looking for a really good drummer so i can practice his music. Give me the best drummer you know, cause i really need a challenge. Also, please don't trash me for being a copier. I am in a band, and i come up with my own beats too, but i need something for technique building.

Joey Jordison of Slipknot is teh G0D, check out his c00l band Slipknot
no, seriously, you can find several (not 100% accurate) Vinnie Colaiuta notation on houseofdrumming.com (Steve Holmes page, there are also many mp3s to download) , Danny Carey (Tool), Mike Portnoy (Dream Theater), Steve Gadd, Steve Smith, Thomas Lang, Dennis Chambers, dude just check out drummerworld.com's artist section. I particularly like Gregg Bissonette and Terry Bozzio, but that's mostly because I didn't check out every drummer yet. I know that Vinnie is a monster, but his drum play is too technical for me, I just can't grasp everything of his playing. |
Depends what you like playing, I agree with most of the artists mentioned by 'tapioca'. I guess you could try Smelly from NOFX, Tre Cool from Green Day...pretty lame and not the best, but good for building technique. Also experiment with and try out different styles of music.

Neil Pert, Lars Ulrich, Joey Jordison, Danny Carey
|
I hear Ulrich had to speed up some of his drum tracks for St. Anger because he couldn't play fast enough. Don't know if this is true or not.
|
^Not true. Lars played LIVE on the MTV awards.
Some drummers will be Dave Weckl, Steve Gadd, and Steve Smith. |
Jimmy Chamberlin, :thumb:
|
Dave Weckl. Anyone who played on the burning for buddy album. You come to me and say you can play that, I'll slap you and turn you right back to your kit.
|
Just Kidding
|
Buddy Rich, but you wont like big band im guessing.
Also Will Young, his drummer on his last album is a nice guy, and a great drummer. Try that out. |

yeah..uh... where the hell did u think of that idea. he is playing dyers eve almost everyother show now. Plus more than likely if u hear anything neg about lars..more than likely htey dont know **** about or they hate metallica, ok i admit i hate st.anger but hey...if u pay attention to some kind of monster for a good 4 secs thats basically a brief dyers eve at times. thank you..NEXT. |
Brann Dailor.
|
Josh Freese with A Perfect Circle is good. Probably harder than what you're used to, but not an impossible leap in skill. Great music too.
Danny Carey with Tool. Playing for a year I highly doubt you'll be able to play much of his stuff, but you said you were up for a challenge... Steven Adler with Guns N' Roses. It's nothing overly flashy, it's songs most every one love, and the drumming is solid. You have to learn some slower stuff in addition to the faster stuff you're probably normally playing. Just because you can play fast doesn't mean you can play slow. Keith Moon with the Who. Great drumming, tasteful, and Keith is all over the place. He's a fill monster, and it sounds great, I'd definitely recommend checking out some of the Who. Actually...I'd recommend checking out a lot of it ;). |
Mike Mangini. Good stuff man.
|
Dominic Howard From Muse has really appropriate drumming for their songs, and it's not too difficult to play along with which is the best part!
|
^
tastefull |
Brann Dailor
Flo Mounier Steve Smith Mike Portnoy |
Travis is NOT a good drummer.
Thomas Lang/Terry Bozzio FTW. If you can play through a whole Bozzio solo perfectly, then i will yeild. Also your name is retarded. You cannot like punk and emo. Both scenes detest each other. |
Meg White.
|
^ please tell me you were joking....
Lars does actually play st. anger tracks. I still think Dyers Eve is by far their fastest song. It was something like they never play it live because Kirk can't remember the solo, and Lars' legs will fall off, or something along those lines. Dunno if thats true. As for playing along to; Lars - Metallica Mike Portnoy - Dream theater Depends what you like. Just go down your music player list, and pick a song. Also, there arn't many tabs, but check out some blind guardian... |

(I know....it's hard...but some people really DO sometimes like music for the music!) |
Just listen to some of Rush and Dream Theater's stuff.
|

Chad Smith... He's great. (Red Hot Chili Peppers)
Try some of their older songs like Give It Away, Suck My Kiss and Mellowship Slinky In B Major. |

He doesn't play it properly though. He doesn't play those straight 16ths. While Lars is not a bad drummer, he's a complete asshat. |

Like you know what punk is either.
|
Punk is what i depict it to be. Thats the cool thing about it.
There is no definitive definition of punk or anything, it will vary from person to person. |
He doesn't play it properly though.

In their movie 'some kind of monster' he looked like a complete jerk in arguments, but when you think about what he was arguing about, he was always right. |

Maybe so, I would love to hear your opinions on what punk is.
Greenday and Blink 182 are pop punk, and as such suck very badly. You just don't realise it until you hit puberty. |
Green Day actually used to be good though, blink never were. They were bareable with Scott behind the kit but no more.
|
Meh. He's clearly into the scenes as he calls himself a "punkemohardcorekid"
ok, point taken. :) oh, and nice name you've got there.... ;) |
Ska is more of underground scene ;) Therefore im cooler than all these emo/indie knobeads
|
Benny Greb. Thomas Lang. Steve Gadd. You'll wish you'd never even bothered with Travis.
|
i didn't even\ check the dates, but the moment I saw Ravemaster i was like 'omg', checked the dates.
Nice bumping an 18 month old thread genius! |
Chad smith from the chili's. Guys a powerhouse.

Oh man, I love time check that they did. Sounded great |
