I only have time to hear the first one, but I'm Really Diggin it! Sounds real kool.. i can see myself jamming to it :thumb: nice work. Except the singer.. the singer sounds like a punk singer for the most part of the song.. it might just be me.. Great song though Congratulations

BuddyBigsby 01-04-2004 06:01 PM

I'm really digging this stuff, man. The guitar is great and it sort of reminds me of Iron Maiden or Manowar with less cheese. The only thing I would suggest is that your vocalist be just a little more into it, he sounds a little bored, but other than that he has a great voice. Congrats on keeping it heavy without screaming btw :thumb:

iShotMyFinger 01-04-2004 06:05 PM

I really like the music but i'm not as into the singer but it sounds really good otherwise.

odio 01-05-2004 02:53 PM

listened to "fire to the coals".

sound's pretty good except like some others said, the singer, except the effect he had on his voice was pretty cool.

drums and guitars were fine though, like some others said iron maiden-esque

JeffofBetrayer 01-08-2004 12:41 AM

Thanks for the comments. I'm glad everyone liked something so far. I'm the singer/guitarist by the way and i also don't care for my singing all that much, lol (on that album anyways). Since that recording i think i'm much more pleased with the way my voice has developed. I think I've gained more expression & range.

Here's another song to check out (from the same CD) that features the vocals a bit more. There's some obvious problems such as some out of key (or wierd sounding) vocal harmonies and I don't really care for how the nylon string guitar tone turned out but other than that I think it's the best sounding song on the album. Just to warn you it's not a heavy track.

SkaterNick14 01-08-2004 01:20 PM

Listened to the Sands of Time man that was awesome you guys really rock excellent phrasing on the solos to i listened to the other songs to and they were great you guys really know how to play excellent production to.

coldRaver 01-08-2004 02:51 PM

Descendants_Of_Death.MP3: Looks like you guys got some good reviews, my turn now ;). The intro is clean, and it sounds like you guys have practiced (unlike other bands here ;)). I LOVE the trasitions from a phrase to another. I want to see your band's rig! Hey is that an electronic kit I hear? He/she is pretty good! The vocals are pretty right for the genre of music this is. I am liking the echo effect with it, makes it more creepier than it is ;). Your bassist sounds nice and clean, VERY nice. You guys have your stuff together, start gigging if you haven't already! I see potential and (underground) stardom in the future!

Fire_To_The_Coals.MP3: Before I begin, I'd like to agree with the statement(s) above about the singer. He needs to get into it! Okay, here we go. I'm short for words, but this is great stuff. It's nice to hear a band's drummer on the forums here that can keep in time. I really like the fast tremolo little riffs. Vocalist: GET INTO IT!! You have a great band behind you, so you should be on FIRE with emotion!! Great guitar solo, I'm really enjoying everything from this band. You're drummer is amazing, I wish he were in my band ;). Everything here is great, very very well done.

Rusted_Icons.MP3: Oh boy, I can't wait to hear this one. I can already assume it is going to be great. A bass solo with synth? That is a rare thing to hear! Rare, but very nice. Wait, that wasen't synth.. That was a clean guitar with a chorus effect maybe? Very nice job bass by keeping your riff going. Less vibrato in the vocals when he comes in. Wow, that was a nice transition from the clean to the dirty sound. Very nice. Again, less vibrato in the vocals would make it sound more like it needs to be in the song. Nothing more needed to be said, it is all very nice.

Sands_Of_Time.MP3: Very nice, clean guitar sound. Vocalist has a strong voice, always a plus. I like the solo, clean acoustic guitar sound. Very well put together song.

Overall ratings(out of 10):

Vocals: 7
Drums: 9
Guitar(s): 9
Bass: 9

MxShredder 01-08-2004 07:35 PM

dammit betrayer...i haven't got to see you live yet although i really wanted to, are you guys still with supernova?

GuitarDude570b 01-08-2004 09:02 PM

holy ****, you guys kick major ***, im listening to sands of time right now, thought u guys kickass from within the first 20 seconds of hearing it, mmmm, so good, sounds a LOT like alice in chains, omg, if your other songs r this good, then i think i found a new band to love

Metallicat1987 01-08-2004 09:10 PM

Perhaps you should put the tab for those on here? :naughty:

GuitarDude570b 01-08-2004 09:20 PM

mmm, just listened to descendants of death, really good ****, thats 2 songs that kickass, i believe u have a new fan :)

o and i can definately hear those influences in your music, especially megadeth, even the vocals (i actaully like the sound of these vocals better than mustaine)

JeffofBetrayer 01-09-2004 12:04 AM

"Hey is that an electronic kit I hear?" You got it, good ear!!!

"dammit betrayer...i haven't got to see you live yet although i really wanted to, are you guys still with supernova?" We'll be playing at the Hard Rock Cafe in Toronto on the 23rd if you're around then. We've been in contact with Supernova fairly recently and it looks like we might be involved in some Metal Fests they have planned for the upcoming year as well as hopefully something this summer at the Molson Amphitheatre again. Nothings booked yet but it looks promising.

"sounds a LOT like alice in chains" lol, that's what I thought too. Just the way some of those vocal harmonies are. Alice in Chains are a great band. I think your one of the first (if not the first) people who's brought up that connection. Cool!!!

Very insightful amazing reviews from everyone. Thanks, I really love reading peoples feedback on our music.

SkaterNick14 01-10-2004 08:51 AM

wow bump because this is probably like the best band to ever post on this forum

MxShredder 01-10-2004 10:50 PM

did you guys record these over at machinehead studios? they definatly sound pro

JeffofBetrayer 01-11-2004 02:19 AM
did you guys record these over at machinehead studios? they definatly sound pro
Thanks, no we recorded them in Windsor at
www.spectresound.org. Since then he's moved his studio and it looks really cool what he's done with it. He moved to a new house and converted the garage into a studio (there's pics on his site of the construction). We're planning on heading back there soon to cut a single for a possible video.

I think his production just keeps impoving, you can hear a big difference in quality if you compare the tracks I put up here to our Paranoid cover (which is available to download off our site). Paranoid was the latest thing we recorded there and I think the quality surpasses that of our Rusted Icons album (and it's been quite some time since we recorded Paranoid.....still at his old studio location) so I'm really looking forward to hearing how things will sound at his new facility.

Themadhatter 01-11-2004 03:54 PM

Ah Mother of God! You guys know how to ****ing rock! You are the best band I have come across on these forums by far. You alked about a Cd? Can I order it online? I would easily pay like $10 bucks or something for this. So far, I like Descendants of Death, that is ****ing rock, right there. The solo parts in the second song are amazing, and I think you guys easily have the potential to get big. Thats just my opinion, but let me know about the CD or availability or whatever, rock on dude.

JeffofBetrayer 01-11-2004 10:25 PM

Thanks for the great feedback Themadhatter!!! Yes, our Cd is available for purchase on our site. It's $10.95 CDN (which includes shipping & taxes). If there's any questions feel free to email me jeff@betrayer.ca

HondoII 01-12-2004 12:51 PM

omg...not only were those songs awesome...but that Paranoid cover was fuckin kick ass!!!

Themadhatter 01-12-2004 02:18 PM

Agreed, Betrayer owns me and I am now a fanboy. I'm gunna order your album later on tonight, maybe the promotional package. I'll join the mailing list too, as I'm really interested in watching you guys go big. I've the songs you posted to my playlist, and am addicted to Fire to the Coals, because the first solo is the best I've heard in a LONG time. Deffinetley keep me updated how how things work out with you guys.

DonMancini 01-12-2004 06:07 PM

WOW, amazing, I pretty much agree with what was written, except that I thought your vocalist was very good. And I really enjoyed the intro on Descendants of death :thumb: you really should start gigging a lot, you have a lot of talent, and I would definately buy your cd

UnderDawg 01-12-2004 07:47 PM

Oops, double posted sorry about that!

UnderDawg 01-12-2004 07:48 PM

Yeah, I happen to think the vocalist goes good with the music.
Also, how long has your drummer been playing? I'm 15 and been playing for about 7 months now, and the 1st time I set down on a double pedal I could do that, I think he needs to add some more technical stuff, IMO, that basic beat he was doing most of the song, needs to be changed a lil. It needs to follow and compliment the guitar, instead of just playing at the same speed. I don't know how to explain it, like...I don't really know how to explain it. Really, I'm just a drummer, so that's all I can tell that would be wrong. And again, this is just my OPINION and criticism don't take it personally, your band is very good!

Lol I only listened to the 1st song too.

tunafish_scumbag 01-14-2004 09:16 PM

I wanted to go see you guys at the Metal Queen Management Show, but its 19+.

JeffofBetrayer 01-16-2004 11:32 PM

"Also, how long has your drummer been playing?"
He was playing for about 3 yrs at the time that was recorded.

"And again, this is just my OPINION and criticism don't take it personally, your band is very good!"
Ya, i understand, that's what this forum is for, to critique peoples music. I don't take any offence to even the worst comments about our music (and we've had some harsh remarks). Everybody's tastes are different and I respect that (as long as someone can intelligently say something about the music and not just say something like "your band sucks" and that's it). I think i'm my worst critic. There's so many things I would have changed looking back on that recording. I guess that's what future albums are for, to hopefully progress as musicians and always try to create music that you're happy with (or at least bear to listen to,lol). I think that's an on going struggle for musicians until the day they die, it's hard to be totally satisfied with your own work (maybe impossible).

JeffofBetrayer 01-22-2004 10:31 PM

Since some people liked our Paranoid cover I figured I'd put it up here too for easy access (instead of having to go to our site to download it). We recorded it for a local Black Sabbath tribute album but sadly the album never materialized.

http://www.betrayer.ca/html/mp3/Betrayer_Paranoid__Cover_Song.MP3

Here's one more, a live cover we did of Megadeth's Holy Wars...The Punishment Due. The sound quality is pretty bad but maybe some of you will like it anyways.

http://www.betrayer.ca/html/mp3/Betrayer_Holy_Wars__Live_The_Kathedral.MP3

metallica_pyro 01-23-2004 12:51 AM

Yea, your songs are really awsome. I bet your going to get big real soon. Keep Rocking!!!

MxShredder 01-23-2004 04:55 PM

the paranoid cover almost gave me a heart attack, i cranked it because i thought it was mixed quietly.......it wasn't

good job on it though :thumb: i like the double bass

HondoII 01-23-2004 08:18 PM
the paranoid cover almost gave me a heart attack, i cranked it because i thought it was mixed quietly.......it wasn't

LOLOL

that is EXACTLY what i did.

nearly blew up my speakers

it hurt..

JeffofBetrayer 01-24-2004 06:43 PM

Ya,lol...sorry if we damaged anyone's speakers. We thought it was a pretty powerful (when the song actually kicks it)/unpredictable way to start the song. So ya, DON'T crank your system when you listen to the Paranoid track....but it's pretty cool if you do for the first time listening to it,lol.

thrashfanatic2010 02-06-2004 11:08 AM

i checked out some of your stuff and u guys kick ***, i live in the windsor area and ive heard of ya, i think you opened for maiden , motorhead and dio, that must have been sweet

mulletron 02-06-2004 11:23 AM

Wow, you guys are amazing. That Paranoid cover was totally insane, good job. I'll hopefully be getting your album in the near future.

JeffofBetrayer 02-12-2004 01:37 AM

Thanks thrashfanatic2010 & mulletron!!! And it's cool to see you posting on our message board thrashfanatic2010 \m/

"i think you opened for maiden , motorhead and dio, that must have been sweet"

Ya, that was an amazing experience!!! We didn't get to play on the main stage though or meet any of the headlining acts :upset: (we played on an indie side stage). It was still great exposure for us because the stage we played on was right inside of the main entry gate to the Amphitheatre. It was a really wierd feeling (pretty scarry lol) seeing what looked like thousands of people lined up outside this gate about to be let in. My adrenaline was really pumping at that point lol. The sound really sucked for us though, I couldn't hear **** and there was nothing we could do about it. They needed a MUCH bigger P.A for that.

JeffofBetrayer 02-27-2004 11:43 PM

Here's another one of our songs to check out.

http://www.betrayer.ca/html/mp3/Betrayer_04_Waiting.MP3

JetBlackWarlock88 02-28-2004 04:03 AM

This has got to be some of the best sh*t I have ever heard!!!! I like your voice even if no one else does. I would like to hear a little more Iron Maiden like screaming, but then I'm an 80's metal child. That said you guy's steamroll over any new music I have heard in a long time. :smash:

Griffin_Page 02-28-2004 02:44 PM

Sounds pretty **** cool, the only thing i didn't like was the guitar and bass tones, otherwise the music and lyrics kicked ***!

JeffofBetrayer 03-04-2004 12:51 AM

Thanks JetBlackWarlock88 & Griffin Page. I'd have to agree with both your posts. The Dickinson style singing is what I've really been pushing towards since those songs were recorded. Before then I was mostly influenced by Mustaine but I think that was also due to the fact that I had only been singing for like a couple years at that point and I wasn't at all confident in my voice. I can't wait till our next album, it'll sound a bit different musically (in a more Euro Metal direction eg, Nightwish, Edguy, Yngwie Malmsteen) as well as production wise (I don't care for the tones we got on Icons either).

HondoII 03-05-2004 02:18 PM

signed up for your forums (myka316)...it is a very cool site.

NakedRaygun872 03-08-2004 12:56 PM

Your singing voice fits the music perfectly, in the first song you just needed to push it further.

JeffofBetrayer 03-12-2004 08:01 PM

Thanks HondoII for signing up to our board!!! & Thank you NakedRaygun872 for taking the time to listen to our music, I agree with you about pushing my voice further.

Since this thread has gotten pretty long and I've posted multiple songs throughout it I've decided to post them all together here just to make things a little more organized.
