Elliott Smith
any one a fan?
|
Nice thread title.
Yea he's good. His older, more raw stuff is the best. The FABOTH b-sides were also better than expected. |

Amazing artist. My favourite of the anti-folk genre, for sure. |
He's amazing.
|
and dead :(
a crazy death too, i still wonder if he was murdered. |
I think he's fantastic, his music sends chills up my spine. I'm slowly getting into the Roman Candle album.

 I still need to acquire Either/Or and the self-titled album. |
I think I prefer Either/Or to the S/T, but both are amazing albums.
|
It is my firm belief that anyone who anyone and everyone who is no-one should own at least all of elliott smith's records. He is the most sincere song writer in all the land.
R.I.P elliott... |
I'm really loving those B-Sides from "From A Basement...". Got some really get songs on there.
I forget what that website was called though, could someone refresh my memory? Because there's more B-Sides on there as well isn't there? I want to download them too. |

And yeah, the "Basement II" Demos are great.
Awesome stuff man. Thanks alot. Elliott Smith is awesome. hes one of my favorite song writers. Yeah, his death is pretty shady. I once heard the National Public Radio obituary when he died, it had a quote by Elliott saying that he didnt really know what his songs meant, that he just liked to play with melody and if the lyrics helped someone outhere he'd be happy. It also has Conor Oberst saying that Elliott was one of his main influences. |
It also has Conor Oberst saying that Elliott was one of his main influences.
if this is true then i dont think he was influenced enough. Conor Oberst = poo |
Conor's not that bad. Jesus, kids, there are far worse writers than Conor Oberst that have much more acclaim. U2, The Doors, Led Zepplin, and even Nickelback have had their limelight without even so much resembling good writers.
In any case, thanks for the link to the b-sides, and X/O is my favourite, but he has some great lyrics all over the place. I've been quoting "No Name No.5" a lot lately. |
Edited thread title.
|
He was one ugly man, but I love his music very much. Either/Or is my favorite record from him.

Amen, Dan.
Edited thread title.
Thank you. I was actually about to ask someone to do that. |

My joke is lost! |
I got a laugh out of it at least.
|
Haha I can never win.
Nice joke though! |
I'm pretty sure Elliott is an influence to a lot more people than just Conor Oberst.
|

Haha. I think it was Conor saying that he loved Elliott's ability to connect to other people pain and sadness through his music, and how he wished to emulate it. And i think Conor is a great writer, especially in Im Wide Awake and Its Morning. Yeah luxor. Even Ben folds played a song he wrote for Elliott Smith the last time i saw him. |
Another great songwriter who died far too young. The scary thing was that you saw it coming when he was still alive. His music became darker and darker as it progressed, at least in my opinion.
I didn't notice the 'because we love you'-whisper in King's Crossing after he sings 'give a reason not to do it' until somebody n this forum pointed it out. Now the song gives me even more chills. |
^ Amen. Thanks to whoever pointed that audio part out.
|
^ Amen. Thanks to whoever pointed that audio part out.
It's his girlfriend saying it. |
It's his girlfriend saying it.
Crazy. I heard that the last line from Jeff Buckleys last album was "and we all float out to the ocean" or something along those lines. Remember, after that album he drown in the same river his father did. |

Thanks for pointing that out again. I'll have to listen to it more closely. |
It's his girlfriend saying it.
Yes, but his girlfriend didn't make mention it in a thread; I was referencing whoever supplied that information in a past thread. It was his girlfriend and his mom or sister, right? |
