The Flaming Lips

Holy cow I love this band. Probably the only alt/indie band I like but from what I know they've got a high rep in the alt/indie world. I figure you all know them but for those of you who don't I'll give you the brief description.

Amazing alternative band from Oklahoma City the Flaming Lips consist of Wayne Coyle, Mark Coyle, Richard English and Michael Ivins. Basically they're a big mix between acoustic guitar and electronica stuff. I'm not even really sure what's going on most of the time, I'm just enjoying myself too much to really listen to what the band is playing. Short story short, they're amazing and I love them.

Such a great band. YBTPR is a wicked album, I love "Fight Test."

AK47 07-14-2005 09:04 PM

I heard the new Flips song of the "Wedding Crashers" soundtrack it was pretty tight.

bubbledeath 07-14-2005 09:58 PM

They're recording a new album now. I'm so excited.

Little Man being Erased 07-14-2005 10:00 PM

I be looking forward to that release as well. I have Yoshimi and The Soft Bulletin and I love them both, equally.

Little Man being Erased 07-14-2005 10:13 PM

Easily one of the best live bands EVER.

I'm listening to Yoshimi now...

Daniel! 07-14-2005 11:12 PM

Crazy awsome.

Sleeper 07-15-2005 01:06 AM

They are starting to become one of my favorite bands, They are just simply amazing.

me too.

I recently got Zaireeka, aswell, but I havent listened to it yet.

Modestbob 07-15-2005 07:29 AM

The Flaming Lips are great, I have like 5 or 6 of there cds. I cant wait to hear there new album, it will hopefully be a good one. The Flaming Lips always had a feel of being our generations pyschedlic pop to me.

Smackers 07-15-2005 08:26 AM

Yoshimi was a great recording period for them. Ego Tripping is still my favorite song they've done. It has been since I first heard it when the album came out. I'm really excited to hear the new album.

Indie'd! 07-15-2005 08:35 AM

Yoshimi is indeed an awesome album from an awesome band. And I giggle to myself whenver I hear Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots pt. 2. It's just so ridiculous!

The Ashtray Girl 07-15-2005 08:56 AM

I got Clouds Taste Metallic recently, so I'm starting to get into that, though I still love The Soft Bulletin and Yoshimi. This Here Giraffe rocks my world.

I would love to see them live, I hope they tour in the UK with the new album. That'd be awesome.

Corduroy Skin 07-15-2005 12:58 PM

I saw them live when they were touring with Beck. The Flaming Lips opening for Beck is one of the greatest things the music industry has ever produced. Such a great show, one of the happiest experiences of my life.

Sleeper 07-15-2005 01:22 PM

Are they planning on a new album? I know the DVD came out.

Mr Observations 07-15-2005 02:04 PM

Everyone loves the Lips, c'mon. Wayne Coyne is such a fly guy.

Glitterati 07-15-2005 02:29 PM

I'd love to see them live someday.

MindlessPickle 07-15-2005 03:00 PM

The Lip's are indeed a great band. I've got Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots and Transmissions from the Sattelite Heart, they're both two awsome albums. The Yoshimi album is a mixture of acoustic guitar and electronica (as mentioned by ThievesandBastards) while Transmissions is a bit more poppier rock with a few traces of electronica.

Phunphone 07-15-2005 03:12 PM

I recently got "Yoshimi Battles The Pink Robots" and... it's undescribably beautiful, happy and sometimes hysterical. I love In The Morning of Magicians by a gigantic heart.

Aeaon 07-15-2005 04:05 PM

I have Yoshimi on red vinyl. It's so beautiful. :)

The Ashtray Girl 07-15-2005 04:09 PM
Are they planning on a new album? I know the DVD came out.
They are indeed - At War With The Mystics could be out by the end of this year (although maybe not).

pete L. 07-15-2005 07:00 PM

They went from pretty fun and experimental to a psychedelic riot between "she don't use jelly" and now. I like it all.

Glitterati 07-16-2005 12:53 AM
They went from pretty fun and experimental to a psychedelic riot between "she don't use jelly" and now. I like it all.
Yeah, I love their experimentation. I'm listening to "Fight Test" right now, how could you not like this song?

Tangy zizzle 07-16-2005 12:59 AM

I met Wayne Coyne and that drummer boy.

Nicest man alive.

Iai 07-16-2005 10:03 AM

They covered Bohemian Rhapsody for a Queen tribute album recently.

MC187 07-16-2005 10:18 AM

yeah, i love the flaming lips. i have soft bulletin and yoshimi. their experimentation is great. with some bands, it seems like they churn out the same music on each album but with the lips everything is new and there are always so many layers to the music that make successive listenings that much better.

MindlessPickle 07-16-2005 12:13 PM

They also covered "Cat Stephen"s Father and Son... kinda :P

JimGuitar 07-16-2005 02:44 PM

I really don't like The Flaming Lips. I own both The Soft Bulletin and YBTPR and they're just a bit too..eh, wimpy.

IamaRadiohead 07-16-2005 07:56 PM

Probably my favorite at this moment, Yoshimi battles, fight test, do you realize, race for the prize are all great songs. She dont use Jelly is like my favorite song to play on guitar.

Modestbob 07-16-2005 08:02 PM

I saw The Flaming Lips on Austin City Limits one night at like 1 am on PBS. and it was awsome, because the whole setup looked like some happy sunny LSD trip. And I thought it was funny they covered War Pigs by Black Sabbath and they did "Somewhere Over The Rainbow" with the guitarist dad playing saxaphone.
