Omega Red 02-20-2005 10:30 AM

BTB4 Prestige neck 5pc. Maple/ Bubinga Neck Material Flamed Maple top/ Mahogany / Maple back Body 24/Tall frets Rosewood Finger Board Mono- Rail II bridge Bartolini Custom Neck PU Bartolini Custom Bridge PU Abalone Dot Inlay SN : Hardware Color Bartolini 3-Band (18V)

VS.

nothing

The BTB will be a little more versatile. Though me personally Id go with the Presicion just based on my tastes/music I play.

Omega Red 02-20-2005 10:51 AM

If you want a ****ty fender go for the P bass, If you want something fender like but better, get a Lakland, If you want one kickass bass get the BTB

Radiobass81 02-20-2005 11:02 AM

It's not just any P...

A P with a Humbucker (think: MM) on the bridge, with active controls and a pan pot.

Go Fender :thumb:.

A big 123! It's a great bass. Honestly, those BTB's have never been to my tastes... The SRX's aren't bad though.

AlmightyPancake 02-20-2005 11:12 AM

Shiiiiit. BTB by far.

Marly 02-20-2005 11:17 AM

BTB

I hate fenders :)

there is no contest between these two basses, i dont know how you guys thing that the Ibanez, even the BTB400 model is worse than a Fender Pbass. The top of the Line Ibanez clears Fender by so much its not even funny.

Ian 02-20-2005 11:30 AM

well its true features-wise the BTB owns the fender...Ill give you that much. But that deluxe P has decent features and that usa fender vibe/feel...love it or hate it. To me nothing feels more comfortable or natural to wear/play than a P or jazz.

Omega Red 02-20-2005 11:33 AM

Fender is deffinatly the bottom of the barrel

Ian 02-20-2005 11:34 AM
Fender is deffinatly the bottom of the barrel
in your opinion. Others may disagree.

PaulSimonon 02-20-2005 11:37 AM

I wouldn't buy any other Fender than the American Deluxe P, because I can get all of the passive fender tones out of my T-40 that I paid 125$ for (and ios made in the US...), and all of the active J tones with a certain pedal I have. The American P Deluxe plays nice, is versatile, and sounds really **** good.

a compound neck is in my opinion less tonally pleasing than a one piece neck. if the mono rail was truly a superior system i would think fodera, sadowsky, and warwick would use them. bartolinis are nice but they lack aggression that fenders have. abalone inlays are on the fender, as is an 18v preamp. not everyone needs 24 frets.

IMO i love fenders aggressive tone and strong feel. never had problems with any fender ive owned. ive had trouble with my warwick way more frequently.

quatre, youre being a little bit large headed man. this is new to me :(

fatbandit 02-20-2005 12:44 PM

I'd say the BTB. The 405 I own surpasses most basses I've played, especially Fender Ps, so I imagine the prestige to be *far* nicer.

Is that why they are some of the most used basses by pro's, and some of the best players there ever was.... i.e. Rocco, James Jamerson

:thumb: I think this is more down to personal preferance, go with what YOU like!

Jas

Radiobass81 02-20-2005 12:48 PM

Fatbandit: Ever played an active P with a humbucker (similar to an MM) on the bridge?

Thus, the BTB being superior to most basses ;).

Yeah, I'm just ignorant...

Did you buy a Roland :)? I forgot...

the only reason ppl used fender, was because they were the only option back then

Urban Rhythm 02-20-2005 12:51 PM

Also, its not about all the gadgets and new technology thats on the bass, a real pro will be able to get any tone out of any instrument. And the fact that alot of bass companies have to put all this expensive equipment on basses to be able to sell them, yet a simple Fender P is still just a much used :thumb:

What Rocco? He's still playing today, same as Norman Watt-Roy, still playing today and still uses a P in the studio.

'IMO' I would go for the P because I like Fenders, but like I say, it's down to personal preferance.

I disagree. A pro ussualy does not need a lot of tones, but, a defining tone complimenting their music and their view on it.

The tone is one of the most important features of music! Its one of the first things you hear in every piece of music, you dont hear the melody, chord progression or anything straight away, the tone of an instrument can make a hell of a difference.

Its like if you practise hearing intervals by ear, with a piano sound you can get them all right, once you change the timbre of the instrument your hearing totally fucks up, and gets confused. Thats the impact of different tones.

You have the right to disagree and I see what your saying. But all my tutors on my bass course at uni are always flaming people if they dont have the right tone for a song, and them being pro's I'd go with them, seeing as theyre doing what we want to do. lol

To threadstarter: I guess this whole thread just shows that it all comes down to personal preferance. So just try both out. I prefer the P bass though.
