Gilmour's tone > God's tone.
Gilmour's tone > God's tone.
Well put

I can always distiguish his tone from anyone elses, even if I had never heard the song before, it's so distinct

Gilmours tone on Comfortably Numb on David Gilmour Live >>>>>>>>>>>>> reg comfortably numb

Glitterati 04-13-2005 07:53 PM
Sorry, this is off topic but do you know who's guitar tone I am completely JEALOUS of?

Eric Clapton.

I was listening to 24 nights and Sunshine of your Love is superb.

The guitar tone is amazing.
Totally, man. He makes everything sound so...smooth and flawless. Hendrix, in my opinion, was a little sloppy, but Clapton has awesome tone.

JonG 04-13-2005 08:08 PM

My favorite CR tones are Santana, Slowhand, SRV(not so classic), and Hendrix.

Santana's got that poppy Telecaster like Les Paul :X

SRV no doubt, obvious..

Against Miik! 04-13-2005 08:35 PM

I'd say Dickey Betts, Alex Lifeson, Hendrix, and Santana

Leper 04-13-2005 08:37 PM

What artist was it that at one time said "Eric Clapton is a lousy guitarist"?? I heard that a while ago on the radio but i can't remember who said it. I found it pretty funny.

Anybody who thinks Clapton is a lousy guitar player has no soul. He is just one of these guitar players like Gilmour or Hendrix where you can feel the emotion they put into their songs as you listen to them, and you can tell that you are not listening to them playing, but you are listening to their soul and true feelings.

well, i think it was meant as a joke, and even if it wasn't, i still find it pretty funny.

did any of you guys read rolling stones' new immortals issue? little stevie from the e street band writes about him. he talks about how every lead guitarist out there owes a debt of gratitude to clapton because he set up the blueprint.

jeff beck has my favorite tone.

pigonthewing82 04-13-2005 09:03 PM

Just to get the opinion of some people outside of the Pink Floyd thread, what do you guys think of Syd Barrett's solo career? I love it, I own all of it, and I can't think of a single song I don't like. It always seems to put me in a good mood too.

Leper 04-13-2005 09:04 PM

i don't read rolling stone, too much ashley simpson, britney spears blah blah crap.

PinkFreud 04-13-2005 09:06 PM

You need to slow down with some of those. They'll be expired before I'm done with the previous tracks :p.

He put out two cds one called Barrett, and the other The Madcap Laughs. Now don't expect to hear Piper at the Gates of Dawn stuff, his song Pink Floyd song Jugband Blues is more close to his solo career. Also rare and alternet recordings were relased on the cd titled Opel, and he just came out with a greatest hits with two unrealased tracks Bob Dylan Blues and Two of a Kind. All his songs are really catchy.

Speak of the devil, Stevie has a radio show here in Vancouver, but I'm not sure where else you could get it. It's called "Little Stevie's Underground Garage" and it's on one of the classic rock stations. Definitely worth a listen :) .

Also, speaking of Rolling Stone, anyone see the "Children Of Rock" issue? I was worried it was going to be "oh, boo hoo, I'm famous", but it's not.

For those uninformed, it's an issue about musician's children, and various interviews with them. They've got Sean Lennon (son of John) Alexandra Richards (daughter of Keith), Ben Taylor (son of James), Alexa Joel (daughter of Billy), and a bunch more. It's pretty cool.
