The Beatles solo work = meh

In my opinion.

MalcolmYoungRock 04-12-2005 07:54 PM
I can't believe he played his guitar upside down and backwards....I can barely play right side up! It's also amazing when he plays behind his head....crazy.
He just changed the strings. The guitar's upside down but from top to bottom the strings are still EADGBE.

gmoneyguy 04-12-2005 07:54 PM

I think there solo is great, but yeah i have been looking for that album for a good while and I finally found it this weekend
He just changed the strings. The guitar's upside down but from top to bottom the strings are still EADGBE.
Which means he flipped the nut around as well.

John's instrumentals were never the same as when he worked with Paul, and Paul's lyrics were never the same as when he worked with John, almost like they were a perfect match.

I've only heard, but I don't own any of Harrison's, though what I've heard I like.

ATM 04-12-2005 08:08 PM

I'll admit I like a little of George's solo work, but most of the Beatles solo albums aren't very good.

They were.

Glitterati 04-12-2005 08:15 PM

In response to Livewired, I've been listening to a lot of old, old country lately. Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson, etc., etc. as well as some '70s singer-songwriters like Bruce Springsteen, Tom Petty, and Patti Smith.

I like Band on the Run and Ram for Paul and Imagine for Lennon, but thats about it, besides Harrison, I haven't heard enought to make a judgement, though from what I've heard hes beating Paul's career. Imagines lyrics just haunt me, it just is so sad that the man who had a vision of a world that great was murdered. And it was that song Imagine that set the guy who killed him off.

Good to see you :)

pigonthewing82 04-12-2005 08:39 PM

What do you guys think of Country Joe and the Fish. I've only heard their stuff off the Woodstock cd, and its really good. I love that song "I Feel Like I'm Fixin To Die Rag" One of my favorite anti war songs.

Badmoon 04-12-2005 08:40 PM

Most of us like him.

Whats a good album to start out with?

Badmoon 04-12-2005 08:52 PM

My uncle owns one of his albums (Electric Music for the Mind and Body). I've only heard about three songs off of it, but I'd say its pretty dang good.

I'm in the same boat as you. I can't imagine their albums being as good as their live performances though, what do you think Badmoon? So far you've heard the most of their songs.

On a shittier note, me and my friends got caught smoking weed by a teacher. It was at lunch and we weren't even on school property, but it's a big hassle. Basically we all got off without any trouble (so far) except for my friend who was caught in the middle of taking the hit, and had weed on him. He's been suspended for a few days. This is the third time he's been suspended for smoking pot though and I'm fairly sure he's in big trouble this time. That sums up what's going on in my life.

Glitterati 04-12-2005 11:03 PM

Do we have any fans of The Police here? My parents have Every Breath You Take: The Classics and it's quite good. Good pop/rock/reggae.

Yeah...it's so harsh for me I can barely listen to that song now. R.I.P. John :upset:

Also, one of John's underrated solo songs is Woman. Great song :)

He's known to be better live, but I won't make any claims. I have heard so little.

John Lennon was such a self centered bastard.

^^^If DE is still looking for Deep Purple tour dates.

So Victor Wooten is the greatest bass player of all time. Who's with me?

ATM 04-13-2005 10:15 AM

FACT: A deodorant company wanted to use the song "Don't Stand So Close To Me" in one of there commercials. The Police did not allow this. :)

That's one of the artists I've been getting into more. I've heard Electric Music for the Mind and Body and it's really chill.
Jimi Hendrix is the best. I just bought Electric Ladyland a couple weeks ago. I'm set to get Are you experienced? soon....when I have more money.

R.I.P. Jimi
I just got Are you Experienced recently myself. Good album with some great songs on it. Besides Purple Haze, Hey Joe, etc... the mega hits that everyone knows, I have fun listening to it. Manic Depression, the Wind Cries Mary, Fire, Foxey Lady, Red House... and a bunch more of great songs. Although I'm still acclimating myself to it.

I kinda want to get Electric Ladyland next, but, eh, little wing is my favorite song of his (and I don't actually have a hard copy of it!). But I'm not too enthusiatic about getting Axis.

Jimi's not my favorite artist, but his raw sound communicates so much... power and, I don't know, but, I like it. It's hard not to like Jimi.

What about that Blues album? Anyone here know if that's worth it?

Its good, only if you have most of his albums already. I would suggest a live album next. Live at Berkley or Woodstock are my favorite.

Band of Gypsys? No?

pigonthewing82 04-13-2005 02:39 PM
Band of Gypsys? No?
Of course. I don't know why but I always forget about that one, I mean I listen to it all the time. Probally because the other two I mentioned are much newer to my collection, so they are more fresh to me. I do think that is a great album though. It has a more funk type rytheme to it then any of their other cds.

Broken Arrow 04-13-2005 02:42 PM

I posted a Love sample in DBoons thread if anyone's interested.

I also posted a Quicksilver Messenger Service sample if anyone hasn't heard them yet.

It's subjective.

Jaco > Wooten

Obviously.

I don't much care for Jaco.
