but I'm probably the only one.
Umm, yeah. |
So far my theory is correct. I guess I have a thing for concept albums. I'd take Lola, Village Green or Arthur over The Beatles pretty much any day.
|
Concept album are tad bit overrated if you ask me. Unless it's actully a good concept of course but that rarely happens.
|
I personally really enjoy the Lola concept.
It's about rock being turned into a formula, basically. In the album, the Kinks represent a fictional band trying to make it big, and "Lola" (the song) is actually the fictional band's hit single that gets them success. The rest is a mock of the record business and how music was becoming much more business oriented and controlled by the companies. And besides that the music is just great. |
The Kinks do not even come close (NOT CLOSE) to The Beatles, (IMO).
I just watched Barton Fink; there's a movie everyone should watch 10 times, take notes and then attempt to interpret.
I'm seeing Barton Fink soon. The Kinks are pretty good. "Waterloo Sunset" is so great. |
Speaking of Dylan, I got "Is It Rolling Bob? A Reggaue Tribute To Bob Dylan" today. It's a pretty cool CD.
|
has anyone noticed all those "hints" on the Beatles album that McCartney was dead (even though none of it is true...)? my dad showed those to me and i was freaked out!
|
haha, but he's not dead. It would be more freaky if it was John.
|
!daed si luaP
Like at the end of Revolution 9 where the chants say "Paul is dead!" a couple of times. Yea, good stuff. |
Yeah the PAul is Dead theory is really widely known. Anybody who's a classic rock fan probably knows about it.
I've never really listened to the Kinks. But Lola is a cool song. Have any of you heard Weird Al's version  |
The Paul is Dead hoax really tripped me out when i was reading about it, though i knew it was totally fake. But when you're reading about all those hints, and then checking them out for yourself..thoughts start creeping into your head. I love the Kinks, but i've really only heard their radio hits (Lola, you really got me, all day and all of the night). I think it's about time i got more in-depth with them.
|
Well the beatles didn't become aware of the 'paul is dead' hoax until '69 - and paul supposedly died in '65 - that's about when the 'clues' started too.
|
I dont know, I dont think the Kinks are better than the Beatles but I do think Arthur is better than alot of th Beatles albums. I think the White album and Abbey Road are the only 2 better than it.
|
The Kinks - You Really Got Me
Kickass riff that you'd have to go a long way to find a heavier guitar sound, even today. |
I haven't heard enough of the Kinks, but Village Green is a great album. I should get Arthur. I don't think they're better than the Beatles though.
|
The only Kinks album I'm still looking for is Face To Face. But their string of nostalgic/concept albums is hard to beat. Arthur is one of my favorite albums of all time.
|
The Kinks had a pretty long track record. They started mid-60's and I have seen albums that weere released in the 80's.

I know. For a band that was considered the underdog of the British invasion, they sure held out a long time. Stevie Wonder is ridiculously awesome. |
I also have the one where The Allman Bros., Arthur Lee, and Peter Green jam with the Dead if you are interested.
 ME = INTERESTED MMT is one of my favorite Beatles albums. Which song is it where John says "Paul is a dead man" when played backwards? I was thinking Fool on the Hill. I have Lola, Arthur (or the Rise and Fall of the British Empire), and The Village Green Preservation Society. None of it comes close to the Beatles ('66 and onward Beatles that is). |
It just goes to show what you can hear if you really want to. Just like all of those old ladies thingking Louie Louie had swears-- it didn't, they just wanted it to in their twisted little minds so they did
|
On the Sgt. Pepper cover, they're all apparently crowded around Paul's grave. And on the inside cover, Paul is the only one turned around.
Pop quiz: How did Paul supposedly die? |

Pop quiz: How did Paul supposedly die?
I believe he supposedly died in a car crash. |
Yeah. My mom showed me some magazines she kept about the Paul is dead rumours, and I think some about John's death. The one about Paul says he picked up a girl on the side of the road who was hitchhiking, and when she realized who he was, she tackled him, causing him to swerve off the road and crash.

I got it right
Beatles Anthology pwns  |
Beatles Anthology pwns
That it does. |
So I pulled out my mom's LP of Grand Funk's....oh **** I forgot the name already....Closing Home? Its black and had their faces in a line, black and white and their eyes are like cut out for their real eyes.
I never listened to Grand FUnk before, and holy crap I haven't been this alive in a long time. Its absolutly killer! |
A friend of mine is saw a Broadway musical about John Lennon tonight. I think I may see it eventually even though I hate plays.
|
Yeah it will always be so, partley because most really good bands that come out now don't get a lot of mainstreem atention, like clasic rock bands...who hasnt herd of led Zeppein or the Beastles.....well I actually met someone who's parents didn't let her watch tv, read books, or listin to the radio and had no idea who The Beatles where...
|
A good Beatle movie is Backbeat. It's about their time spent in Hamburg, and centres on the relationships between John and Stu Sutcliffe, and Stu and Astrid. Very interesting.
np: Goin' up to the country - Canned Heat Best rock songs with a flute. 1. Canned Heat - Goin up to the country 2. Jethro Tull - Cross-eyed Mary 3. Lighthouse - What Gives you the Right 4. Mamas and the Papas - California Dreamin' 5. Led Zeppelin - Stairway to Heaven edit:
who hasnt herd of led Zeppein or the Beastles
The Beastles combined backing tracks from Beatles songs and lyrics of the Beastie Boys. Most of them suck, but a few tracks come out alright. I don't have them on my computer though. |
"Goin' up to the Country" is awsome.
The Canned Heat bass player (not the original) was trying to hit on my friend's mom. It's true. |
Which song is it where John says "Paul is a dead man" when played backwards? I was thinking Fool on the Hill.
It was "I'm So Tired", the little gibberish bit at the end. |

I'm So Tired is such an awesome song. It's great to listen to when you're trying to fall asleep. |

That's on my list after Spamalot California Dreamin has the most wicked flute solo-- I will learn it on harmonica one day The gibberish at the end of I'm So Tierd contains a bit of French if I'm not mistaken |

The gibberish at the end of I'm So Tierd contains a bit of French if I'm not mistaken
I never knew it had French. Sun King and Across the Universe are the only Beatles songs I know with French. |

Actually Sun King was Spanish gibberish, and Across the Universe is Sanskrit (or maybe Hindi), but Michelle is definatly French :thumb: /Complete language nerd-- I have memorized 3 alphabets that I don't know the language to, teach myself Latin, take Spanish and keep a Ukrainian Phrasebook in my backpack even though it is completely useless |
Sun King is Spanish? It always sounded Italian to me.

It's a mix of Spanish, Italian and some other language. |
Sun King is Spanish? It always sounded Italian to me.
I always read that it was Spanish, and I know some words are definatly Spanish, although Spanish and Italian are so similar, they could be shared EDIT: It definatly has at least a little Italian: Cuando para mucho mi amore de felice corazon* Mundo paparazzi mi amore chica verdi parasol Questo abrigado tanta mucho que can eat it carousel Spanish Italian *With a Spanish accent, this word has a "th" sound for the z, but this only happens in Spain-- I don't even know if they have a sound like "th" in Italian, but they might |
