This may sound stupid, but what is Emo
Simple cord riffs played behind a usually horrible lead singer (more horrible if they scream) singing about how their girl friend dumped them. Its a lot like Pop Punk, only worse, whitch says somthing about how bad they are. |

Punk music on estrogen. Often acoustic guitar with soft, high male vocals that dwell exessively on the singer's feelings, especially melancholy remembrances of past relationships/mistakes in life. A form of music that diverged from punk in the '80s, the name "emo" is derived from the emotive style of the lyrics and music. This genre has lately been marketed heavily by the music industry to teenagers with bands such as Dashboard Confessional and Taking Back Sunday, and has seen much commercial and mainstream success. The music has also spawned a subculture which conforms to certain conventions in dress such as tight sweatshirts, tight band T-shirts and horn-rim glasses. Adherents profess to exessively melancholy temperments. Males that adhere to the emo subculture are sometimes confused with metrosexuals; indeed the line between the two is somwhat blurred, though both groups claim to be intouch with their emotional side. The ephemeral and hackneyed nature of emo songwriting suggests that its audience will be restricted largely to teenagers. the genre suffers from a lack of credibility outside the aforementioned demographic group, much like current Nu Metal bands. That's a very good description of emo. Most people confuse emo and pop punk, they are similiar in ways, but not totally the same.

Its the shitty corporate produced sound they both share, that may be what confuses people. |
SOme people (as myself) use 'emo' as a description of a persons lifestyle. Probably depends on how you yourself define it, but i like calling people that strictly go with fads emo, like 50 cent one day, then good charlotte, then GNR, then whatevers next in line - also, clothes, speaking, whatever. Its fun to make fun of emoers, and they wouldnt even be able to tell in front of their face.
But anyway, glad to see this thread hit 30000. Good job guys :thumb: We gotta keep the chat rooms up though NP: Allman Bros Live at Fillmore - Whipping Post |
My friend is emo. We make fun of her a lot for it.

I remember those old classic rock chats, before the community thread. Before the dark ages.

The one that really stands out to me is the trivia one. THAT was good times. |
Has anybody in here heard the cd White Boy Blues with Jimmy Page, Jeff Beck John Mayall, and Eric Clapton? Its really good, its just a bunch of rare blues stuff they did before they all got big, some even has them jamming together, well usually its just two of them jamming, not all four on one track.
|
Definitely good times.
Oh and Badmoon, I'm really digging Fifth Dimension, thanks :thumb: |
