I remember the first time I heard that song. I remember the first 30 seconds and then I completely spaced out and didn't even realize the song was playing until there were like 30 seconds left. It was wild. I wasn't even :smoke:

Think you could throw it up on YSI? :(

Broken Arrow 07-30-2005 05:09 PM

My favourites are Astronomy Domine, Lucifer Sam and Interstellar Overdrive.

Sure, I'll just post it in here.

So I'm trying 3.5 grams (which is the most I've ever tried) tonight.....I'm gunna trip very hard. It'll be nice I just hope I don't get sick again.

So about that Yardbirds' "Dazed and Confused" all I have to say is wow. I didn't know Page could turn it into a good chaotic song. It sounds way better with Draja's voice and a good psychedelic guitar in the background.

YSI seems to never work these days. What does it say when you try downloading it?

BludgeonySteve 07-30-2005 05:34 PM

I don't like Piper At The Gates of Dawn. It's ok, but I don't really like it. Syd Barret was a nut case whos lyrics didn't make very much sense and who didn't have much of a sense of melody. I think that when he left, Pink Floyd got a lot better.

Just my opinion. I guess its my lack of doing drugs that prevents me from liking it. Because anyone can like the later Pink Floyd.

pigonthewing82 07-30-2005 05:37 PM
What song(s) do you guys consider the pinnacle of Piper At The Gates Of Dawn?
You know not many people I know agree with me, but I love chapter 24, it has just such a great concept around it.

Yeah, same for me*. Syd had some cool solo stuff, but his Pink Floyd stuff was just too far out.

*same with me for the not-doing-drugs bit.

I agree that DSOTM-The Wall Pink Floyd was much better, but I really like PATGOD a lot. It's a completely different sound, but still very good.

Follow The Reaper 07-30-2005 05:43 PM

Yeah, The Wall was good, but PARTGOD IMO was better.

omg lucky.

Golden Hair by Syd Barrett is a cool song, speaking of teh Floyd.

BlackDeathMetalJazz or really ANYTHING else please- 07-30-2005 05:54 PM

I'm the only one to my knowledge who considers Syd era of the Floyd much better. The songwritting is much greater and more original than the latter era Floyd. Not that I don't absoultly love it to death but Syd's songwritting is WAY different than anything I've ever heard before. I guess it's my undying love for psychedelic music but I just think Syd's material is quite beautiful with an open mind. Although I think it's unfair to compare the two I still think Syd had a better idea of how music was supposed to be made.

I'm back.

Did I tell this thread I got the Rust Never Sleeps DVD?

It's pretty awesome.

pigonthewing82 07-30-2005 06:00 PM

I really think Syd set up what Pink Floyd was. He gave them the more psychidellic feel that stayed with the band through out all the years. Pink Floyd has always been known as an "out there" band by many, and I think Syd helped build up a lot of that. Its hard for me to say whitch era I like better because they are almost like two different bands so I just say I like Pink Floyd in general.
