GenuineImitation 10-07-2006 05:35 PM

Im going to see Tool in about an hour. I actually never heard an Isis song. Can someone descibe their sound to me?

Darkness 10-07-2006 06:50 PM

Atmospheric & melodic.

Looks like I'm too late again... he's probably finding out now.

I know, I just thought what he said was funny.

denboy 10-08-2006 06:16 AM

Wasn't there a couple of you guys who wanted to do a vicarious cover a long time ago? and then a little less time ago, a The Pot cover?.. . .

Good luck with that Right In Two cover though :p

Dr. Jake Destructo 10-08-2006 12:40 PM
I think he made the lyrics fit the vocal inflections perfectly, personally.

Plus, "shades of cozened indigo" isn't a phrase you can pull out of your butt.

:P
Just to clarify a bit on this, I think that the tone and moreso the imagery I get with this line is completely ill fit for the rest of the song. Sure, it is a well written line, very poetic, (although I don't necesarilly get the metaphor..) it seems extremely out of place with the rest of the lyric's tone and imagery.

magicbus 10-08-2006 05:55 PM

I never realized what it said, but I really like this last verse:
Eyeballs deep in muddy waters
Eyeballs deep in muddy waters
Ganja? P-lease!
You must have been out your mind
It's as if to say "Ganja? Please. This song isn't about drugs you morons." Nice touch Maynard.

does justin use a pick?

Yep.

holycrapper 10-09-2006 04:11 PM

ok good

Kage 10-09-2006 04:12 PM

Warum ist das gut!?!

fortysixand2 10-09-2006 04:37 PM

I love Tool so much!! I was a little disappointed in 10,000 Days, though. I mean if they had 4 years to make an album, I was expecting it to be up there with Ænima, but I guess not...

magicbus 10-09-2006 04:50 PM

Come on! It's not that bad. Granted it's not as consistently good as Aenima, but it's pretty awesome.

Because if he didn't, he'd have to have some scary as hell finger nails to get that tone

 True, true.

I like Justin's style, but sometimes it gets just a little bit too clangy.

Dr. Jake Destructo 10-09-2006 05:21 PM

I love his tone, naturally, especially on The Pot.

And I think 10kd has moved up to my 2nd favorite album behind Lateralus. Surprising.

Kage 10-09-2006 05:23 PM

I love 10,000 Days, because, while it is formulaic to Tool's style, they cop their own sound really really well on that album.

Dr. Jake Destructo 10-09-2006 05:29 PM

Jambi is probably the most boring Tool song to play on guitar, but it's one of my favorite songs on the album. How weird is that?

Kage 10-09-2006 05:30 PM

I love that song. Really intense, and the guitars sound awesome regardless of the content. Nice and thick.

magicbus 10-09-2006 05:31 PM

Favorite Justin tracks:

Intension
The Patient
Disposition
Reflection (especially the first droning notes of this one)
The Pot
Jambi (This one's so good)

Basically when the bass first hits on all those songs, it's awesome.

Yeah, the 6/4 breakdown before the solo is soooo jarring. Love it.

Futuro 10-09-2006 06:07 PM

I love the polyrhythmic drum part of Jambi (lol all)

Carey still blows me away.

Dr. Jake Destructo 10-09-2006 07:44 PM

The one near the beginning of the song that's something like a 9 to 6?

/knows nothing about drumming or poly's

Aaron 10-09-2006 08:13 PM

I'm a tool-convert now! I love them and have bought 3 albums in 2 weeks. Obsession be thy name

I wasn't trying to say that it was bad. It just wasn't up to par with Lateralus and Aenima. I still like it, but after the general post-album hype, I was a bit disappointed, that's all

Dr. Jake Destructo 10-09-2006 08:33 PM

The album actually grew on me more when I got over the whole 'zomg new album' period. At first, I was comparing to their past works, nitpicking at all of the flaws and similarities with previous songs- Once I got over that, I realized how good it really was.

PS: Nice avatar. :p

Theres probably a 9:6 rhythm in that song somewhere lol.

/lazy :D
