Dr. Killgreedy 07-30-2005 10:50 AM

lol the only downfall to stairway to heaven is just its too d*** long. i get tired of just playing it over so i cut it in half. lol that makes it more interesting. i like playin rush too.

BreakingTheRules-79 07-30-2005 10:52 AM

awsome....

Dr. Killgreedy 07-30-2005 11:01 AM

i started getting lazy. lol if the song is over 5 minutes i cut it short. i still love black sabbath and war pigs but i just can't see playing for that long on one song. i usually mix it up a bit. most of my songs i write only come in on about 3 to 5 minutes.

BreakingTheRules-79 07-30-2005 11:10 AM

cool,i'm still learning black sabbath.

Jacaranda 07-30-2005 11:13 AM

Well something very odd just happened, I was listening to Z100 my
Classic Rock station here and I heard Pearl Jam - Jeremey on it.
Then I started thinking about it and it did sorta sound like a Classic Rock song, any opinions on that? Its the only song that is fairly new that I've heard on the station, they don't even play Guns N' Roses, thank god.
Then I Posted on the internet about it.

BreakingTheRules-79 07-30-2005 11:15 AM

hhmm....

Dr. Killgreedy 07-30-2005 11:16 AM

well ive always considered pearl jam to be marginal classic rock

Dr. Killgreedy 07-30-2005 11:17 AM

"jeremy" is a great song but pearl jam's album ten had alot more heavier songs on it. so yea i would consider them to be classic rock imo.

Dr. Killgreedy 07-30-2005 11:23 AM

oh ok i c.

Glitterati 07-30-2005 11:33 AM

I don't think they've ever been considered classic rock. Awesome band though.

Dr. Killgreedy 07-30-2005 11:34 AM

i really enjoy some of joe walsh's stuff too.

drugstore cowboy 07-30-2005 11:56 AM

Oh man, long jams are the best kind though. My friend and I recorded a bunch of 10-20 minute jams. Time really flies by when you're going for that long, and just improvising.

Walrus Gumboot 07-30-2005 11:58 AM

I consider Pink FLoyd's stuff in the 90's Classic Rock

Dr. Killgreedy 07-30-2005 12:01 PM

yea i agree w/ you there but if i play the way i do and the strings i use will have my fingers bleeding all the time. i use (.11-.52) and they tear my fingers up regardless. i would probaly do it if i used smaller guage strings. lol that would help out.

drugstore cowboy 07-30-2005 12:01 PM

^ Yeah, that's cause Pink Floyd can do anything =p (to Walrus)

Who loves Spinal Tap?

Dr. Killgreedy 07-30-2005 12:04 PM

i do......why go to 10 when you can go to 11. lol that cracks me up everytime. its one louder.

Dr. Killgreedy 07-30-2005 12:17 PM

what about zz top?

ATM 07-30-2005 12:25 PM

The local classic rock station here plays stuff like Nirvana and RHCP now.

Glitterati 07-30-2005 12:28 PM
The local classic rock station here plays stuff like Nirvana and RHCP now.
Mine plays Billy Idol and Motley Crue.

Yeah and nothing is more fun then to turn on a long song like Shine On You Crazy Dimond and just jam to the record, you don't want the song to end.

Illmatic 07-30-2005 01:30 PM
That's because hippies are cool.
I beg to differ.

BludgeonySteve 07-30-2005 01:31 PM

Hippies are cool! Hippy music is awesome, hippy lifestyle is awesome.

Illmatic 07-30-2005 01:32 PM

Hippies are not cool. They're lazy cowards who prefer to run from problems rather than fix them.

BludgeonySteve 07-30-2005 01:33 PM

but the Grateful Dead is cooooooool ;)

BludgeonySteve 07-30-2005 01:34 PM

jam bands are teh secks. and so are hippy festivals.

*waits for that dirty hippy, Badmoon to show up*

Illmatic 07-30-2005 01:43 PM

I don't mind jam bands, I just don't like most of the people that see them. Grown men should have jobs, for Christ's sake.

Walrus Gumboot 07-30-2005 01:43 PM

I think I like hippies more than any other social clique in my school. They don't treat people like **** (generally) and would never call anyone a poser, which is the worst thing you can do. Did I mention I was raised by them and have no choice but to become one myself?

LMG 07-30-2005 01:44 PM

I love classic rock!

My faith in humanity has returned. Here I was thinking nobody liked classic rock besides me and everyone my dads age. Everyone in my school either listens to rap or crappy emo bands. You guys got me pumped, I first came to this forum about 5 minutes ago and after reading everything in this thread, I had to register.

Led Zep is my favorite band of all times and I have been listening to them since I was liittle. Recently I have been listening to a lot of different things. Some of my favorites are Jimmi Hendrix, Deep Purple, The Who, THe Beatles, Aerosmith, and Stevie Ray Vaughn (but I'm not sure if thats classic rock).

I was also wondering if anyone here has ever heard Hocus Pocus by Focus

Illmatic 07-30-2005 01:45 PM

Get a job.

pigonthewing82 07-30-2005 01:50 PM
Hippies are not cool. They're lazy cowards who prefer to run from problems rather than fix them.
What about Ghandi or better yet the thousands upon thousands of protesters, they arn't running.

Badmoon 07-30-2005 01:51 PM

As far as today's Hippies go, or generally bohemians outside of the musical world, I usually have problems with.

Unless you're the Dude, you should have some form of job, like Illmatic said.

Dr. Killgreedy 07-30-2005 01:52 PM

i agree ^.

Badmoon 07-30-2005 01:55 PM
What about Ghandi or better yet the thousands upon thousands of protesters, they arn't running.
I wouldn't relate hippies and Ghandi. Ghandi had a lot more goin' on ;).

Walrus Gumboot 07-30-2005 01:55 PM

Who says that not having a job is a prerequisite for being a hippie? I don't consider this to be so. How else do they buy their hemp jewelry-making supplies?

Badmoon 07-30-2005 01:56 PM

thievery

BludgeonySteve 07-30-2005 02:01 PM

I got Lawn boy the other day. It's pretty sweet. I think I like it better than Hoist :)

As for hippies themselves, I don't see what's wrong with not taking life seriously. Not everyone has to have a job and work for the man or else they're useless.

pigonthewing82 07-30-2005 02:03 PM
I wouldn't relate hippies and Ghandi. Ghandi had a lot more goin' on ;).
Yeah, but a lot of the concepts hippies follow are based on Ghandi. I used him as an example because he is the best example of how peaceful protest can be just as effective as war, except nobody gets murdered.

Illmatic 07-30-2005 02:04 PM
What about Ghandi or better yet the thousands upon thousands of protesters, they arn't running.
Gandhi is not a hippy. Wash your mouth out with soap. That's like saying Martin Luther King is a hippy.

Hippies do not devote their lives to helping the well-being of their countrymen. They devote their lives to doing drugs and going to Grateful Dead shows.

BludgeonySteve 07-30-2005 02:08 PM
doing drugs and going to Grateful Dead shows.
I see nothing wrong here :) :smoke: :'dead:

Truth. I consider myself a bit of a hippy, except for the :smoke: part.

I wish I was raised by hippies. I just hang out with them at school.
