Most likely, his.

I'm really digging The Wildhearts at the moment Bartender as well...I'll probably pick up Earth vs The Wildhearts next time I'm drawn towards my local CD shop.
:)
On a completely random side note, my school hired a rabbi recently as a replacement for one of our RS teachers who's on maternity leave. He's currently proceeding to tell the GCSE group of students at my school that "Muslims can never be trusted", "homosexuality is evil", and when anyone tries to argue with him, he responds that he's a man of God. I swear you can't make this stuff up sometimes... :upset:
Looks like you need to organise some kind of complaint/protest there. Where is your school, exactly? The only problem I ever had with my RS teacher was that he was too cool for his own good. One of the best teachers I ever had. |
Sorry B-man. :(
Don't you hate it when you think someone's looking at you, but they're actually looking at someone behind you? That's such a bad way to go Anyways, I'm going to try and finish my lab early for once so that I can go to karate for the first time in two months this weekend. See you all later.
Especially when you think some hot chick's waving at you, but really it's at a person behind you, and then you feel like a dumbass. |
Has anyone else noticed that kids today just don't care?
It's kind of disheartening...laziness, combined with some healthy cynicism, have bred a "I dunno, who cares?" kind of attitude around our generation and younger generation. No one keeps up with the news or with world issues today, no one seems to be informed enough to have a healthy political viewpoint. One of my cousins is 19 years old and she doesn't even know who Dick Cheney is. It's really upsetting that one day these people will be running the country, and it's another reason why I want to be in politics. |
Neither of us can actually do anything in there though. :( I spoke to Jeremy about it, and he tried making me a local mod in a forum here (yes, the coveted job of Other Equipment Reviews local moderator) to see if that worked, but it didn't.
*feels useless* ... On a completely random side note, my school hired a rabbi recently as a replacement for one of our RS teachers who's on maternity leave. I swear you can't make this stuff up sometimes... :upset:
Wow, that sucks. Jeremy needs to get on that. I am not sure as to what he has to do to get it to work, but it needs to get done soon. And it's sadly true about how you can't make up things like that. One of my high school teachers a couple years ago (who was ironically my football coach) would always tell these stories, and he'd always end it with, "True story, I can't make this stuff up, I'm not that smart." If magicbus was here, he'd know exactly who I'm referring to (if he had this particular teacher, I mean). I have to agree with Bartender that some intervention needs to take place. Either that, or chop off his curls. |

This guy swerved round the corner and hit my dad's van, I had a kind of horrible whiplash, it was so uncomfortable. And the icing on the cake was, the guy who hit us actually tried to blame my DAD and get money off him, where the hell is any of this thing we call "Morality" ? But yeah, I was 5 when that happened, possibly a reason I'm kinda insane now, probbably not. Good to hear you're OK :). And hello to everyone :) EDIT: Johnny: My weird kinda prototype F.A. on Soundgarden is almost ready, just as a side not, when is it due? Thanks. |

Well, since kids these days were brought up in a "right here, right now" world of technology and things, they want instant gratification, and they tend to get it, which directly affects laziness and apathy towards the world. Change is a gradual process, and they don't understand that. Kids are using tools like the Internet and computers for lazy things: gaming, browsing, Ebaying, etc. because that gives them instant gratification. Psychologically, they don't have an ego, because the id is drastically overpowering the superego. I'm not saying those things are bad, but technology is improving so rapidly that instant gratification seems to be the ultimate end of all things to come. It's like that Offspring song... Americana, I think it's called. He says something about how his generation doesn't like to wait, which is essentially very true. A lot of people don't care about world events, I find, because they just assume that the people we put in power will protect us. Well, that's what they're paid to do, we elect public officials to put in office to make the decisions for us, and when all of a sudden something needs our attention, a lot of people will turn away and, I guess, become lazy. I also think that there is a time when you need to be introduced to politics so that one has a better understanding of the matter. I don't think you can throw someone in blindly into politics and expect them to know all the intricacies that are involved. $0.02 |
God, I get confused on this all time. Please clarify id, ego, and superego....I've heard them a million times but I never remember.
I hear what you're saying. America doesn't want to think for itself. Maybe this dates back to McCarthyism? I'm not sure. But I think there is cynicism involved. It's not even informed cynicism, but I think that the clowns that have been put into office--Nixon, Ford, Carter, Reagan, the Bushes, even Clinton to an extent, have turned kids off. They throw their hands up and say "Everything's hopeless, I don't want to be part of this". They use it as an excuse for their laziness, I think. Eh, I can't explain myself well, it's just general malaise towards the indifference of our generation. |
I have a passionate hatred of people who try and screw other people after car accidents. I mean...insurance companies are bad enough by themselves, but when people start talking crap, it really just doesn't help at all.
Yeah, I was annoyed, which says a lot, my dad did incredibly well to supress his rage, I thought he was going to explode, which would have been kinda embarrasing. |
God, I get confused on this all time. Please clarify id, ego, and superego....I've heard them a million times but I never remember.
Freud said that the id was the first part of the psyche to develop, and basically is the one that dominates little babies - the id wants instant gratification. It wants it's hunger, thirst, all it's drives and desires, etc, satisfied the instant it feels them. The superego, vaguely, is the highly moral part. The part that always 'wants' to do the right thing. The ego is like the referee between the two. It's like the one that has knowledge of how society works - it knows that everything the id wants can't be acquired or done straight away, and it knows the same of what the superego wants, so it basically sits in the middle and tries to keep the peace, allowing you to operate "normally" through life. And when one part (usually the ego) isn't strong enough, or there's a particularly strong clash between two of them, you get complexes and neuroses and things. |
Do you guys think that there could be a succesful "Jam Band Thread" in R&M?
|
I was confusing ego and superego.
But yeah, now I'm really hearing what AH is saying. EDIT FOR R.BLYTHE: http://www.musicianforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=207777 |

There's already one in the Other Music forum, but as far as I know there is a strong Jam Band following among the classic rock thread. Ask them, they could possibly say yes... |

There's only a limited ammount of things you can discuss in relation to Jam Bands really, I agree, keep it to the CR thread :thumb:

Hey, it's worth a try, go for it :thumb: I'll post in it It might drown though, but I think it would be really cool, since nobody really goes to the "Other Music " thread very often |

Things are starting to get really messed up with this at school now. The teachers are threatening to send us to the office if we even try to talk about this, and they are confiscating all the newspapers in the school(It has the teacher's mugshot in it). |

You also have freedom of speech as long as you aren't slandering the teacher. If you get in trouble for it sue them, they can't restrict your right to free speech. |
That is incorrect.
Even though this is probably not the case, schools have the right to seize newspapers, especially if they are school-run newspapers, since funding is going into supporting the class. |
Ok the way it works, from several past Supreme Court cases, is that students have no rights when they get into school.
so how's everyone doing? today's my 2 yr anniversary with my gf so i'm having a good day, cept i'm still a little sick. |

Good day to all of you. Well, it has happened. The big moment has arrived. I have decided to start saving, because tentatively starting on the 2 January 2006, for around 2-3 weeks, I, along with my beautiful girl friend Eleese, will be going to England! Yes, all you UK R&Mers - I can finally meet you face to face!
We have no set schedule yet, this is not part of a tour, we are simply flying to Heathrow Airport in London, making our own way around the countryside for a few weeks, and then flying back to Sydney, then back up to Cairns. As such, there is limitless possibilties to see all of you guys. And if Jelle wants to make a channel trip, he can. So, since we are going to try to figure out a plan of travel in the next few months, anyone who wants to meet up can email @ HeavyRiva@gmail.com me there approx location, etc, and any tips for cheap accomodation in their area, best places to eat, the works. Well, cannot wait. Gonna start saving as of today, so bye bye CD buys for a while. :) |
Shucks, I live 6000 miles away.
|
I'm going further than you my boy. If I can do it, you can too! :)
Actually, I will pretty much be circumnavigating the globe, from the southern hemisphere to the other side of the world, in the northern hemisphere. Right now the plane fares are $1540 each, so I wonder what it will be like in 8 months time? |

123 IF anyone plans to visit the craphole known as Washington, hit me up. :p (This is sarcasm, since Washington is like the most uber sucky state on the planet, minus Wyoming.) |
/is visiting Seattle July 6-16
|
Oh bonus. For what reason?
Seattle =/= Washington I think I might actually be in Seattle then...I'm not sure why, though. :-/ |
My uncle's birthday/big family reunion, but it's only tht last weekend so I'll have some free time and plan on meeting up with Joel and Madey if I can. Seattle is in Washington though, so I felt justified saying it :) You should come too, it'd be awesome.
|
Joel=PDWAB?
I would really like to..It'd be fun stuff. I think I may be in Seattle, but just the airport. I'm going to Minnesota some time around then. Any Minnesota MXers? :p |
Yeah.
I actually know some guys from Minnesota in S&L, but I'm pretty sure there's some in here too, maybe I'm wrong. Either way I'm staying in Seatac not Seattle proper so I'm close to the airport. |
Seattle is a def town.
There's literally a coffeeshop on every corner though. But what do you expect. |
Def= Good?
I need to working on honing my nigga slang... I don't get why there is so much coffee there. I don't even like coffee. Except for like smoothies and stuff, which aren't coffee at all. |
