Yeh, my I&W Tshirt had a black heart on the back. I was diagonally to your left.
Awesome :chug:

shamed-angel 10-26-2005 06:23 PM

How are you? Did you enjoy? I had my camera confiscated as I went in, so I had to use my girlfriends. Sucks. I played air drums alot apparently :upset:

By The Way:- That wasn't actually my seat, we just went to go to the front and they said we couldn't just stand there, so we got into the nearest available seats.

(anyone who gets the Insision reference is cool)

There's a few pics from the gig. I'm the spotty kid in the No Fear hat, the rest are my drunken friends. The pics of the band kinda suck because a) had to be fly taking the photos and b) I suck at taking photos anyway.
What row were you in, cause I think I can see the back of my head in a few pics.

Chu 10-26-2005 06:46 PM

A few questions:
a) What songs do Petrucci/Portnoy sing on? and
b) Who does the vocal trade off with James at about 8:00 into The Glass Prison?

shamed-angel 10-27-2005 02:45 AM

a)Petrucci sings backing on Fatal Tragedy, Change of Seasons, Strange Deja Vu, quite a few songs reallyif you hear melodic backing voocals, like "Oohs" or "Aahs", then that's JP and MP.
b)That's Mike! The instrumental section after that is the only DT song I know with "Hey!"s in it. Did anyone else notice it? Apparently it's just James exhaling, but it sounded really cool, so they sampled it for that section.

Chu 10-27-2005 02:54 AM

So.. Why doesn't Mike sing for Dream Theater?

shamed-angel 10-27-2005 02:59 AM

He does. He does loads of backing vocals. Haven't you seen his really cool micstand attatched to the back of his kit? It swings round when he's about to sing. He does alot of the harmonised vocals with JP.

RideTheSpiral 10-27-2005 03:15 AM

He does the crappy vocals on As I Am.

shamed-angel 10-27-2005 03:17 AM

Haha, yeah. I really don't like the way they tried to utilise rapping into the songs on ToT. I don't like the way that they made a metal album, but in places, the only vocal style they could muster was to rap.

Chu 10-27-2005 03:27 AM

Heh, sorry, I don't usually notice different vocalists (But in TGP, ~8:00 I don't think it's possible for James to get that low and keep it deep/ish).

But where in As I Am does Portnoy sing? :D

That's Mike, I said earlier! The low bits are Mike and the high bits are James.
He sings the "Taking in the view from the outside." bit...

Ah yeah, one of my friends got his confiscated too. Me and my friend were sharing a camera and I stuck it in one of my many pockets so they didn't notice.

You did play air drums quite alot actually, but it was good to see someone else rocking out. Me and my friend started doing alot of air guitar later on, we could've got a mini-DT going on in there

scenesfromatheater 10-27-2005 11:10 AM

Yo, went to DT in Wolverhampton last night and I have to say it was rather good. Although at some points I would have fallen to sleep if it had not been standing. The definate low point of the gig was Sacrificed Sons and the intro to Octavarium, which I think must have lasted about 35 minutes altogether with JR's boring 10 minute intro on his new keyboard device. Apart from that it was awsome, especially Metropolis at the end. Also, I was dissapointed that they played Home as the song off SFAM, which I think is the worst.

Like at London they played a song off each album, starting with a Majesty song which I'm not sure of. Here is the set-list.

Root of All Evil
Panic Attack
? Majesty Song ?
Fortune In Lies
Under a Glass Moon
Caught In A Web
Peruvian Skies
Speak to Me(?B-side?)
Home - With added on Metallica - Memory Remains jam at the end.

Interval

The Glass Prison
This Dying Soul
Never Enough
Sacrificed Sons
Octavarium
Metropolis Pt. 1

Was a good gig, but as I said, the beginning of Octavarium just dragged on. JP was wearing some crazy 3/4 lengths that made him look about 15 years old. JR with his crazy new beard, he has a big organ next to his keyboard which looked like a bookcase to me. Myung looked as cool as ever. Portnoy throwing his sticks in the air, and his drumkit looks even bigger in real life than on the DVDs. JL looks really skinny in real life as well.

I also got my CD onto the stage so JP could have a listen, but he just kicked it away. Now I hate him:angry: .

The merch was over-priced but I still got a 20th Anniversary shirt (£20!!!) and a wrist band (£5). It was good though cause there were loads of different shirts outside for £5 so I got some of those aswell.

Shame on you all who haven't been to see DT or aren't going to, it isn't on to be missed.

GO AND SEE THEM NOW!

Deth 10-27-2005 11:16 AM

I wish I could. So badly.

Lord of Sword 10-27-2005 11:18 AM

i had my camera and wallet in my coat pocket, so there was quite a noticable buldge in my pocket. he never said a thing when i was searched though, i thought they'd just given up on confiscating cameras, seeing as most people have them on their phones now anyway.

i was glad they played home anyway, my favourite track off SFAM. besides that, peruvian skies, under a glass moon and metropolis were my favourite songs played. i did think JR's octavarium solo went on a bit too long aswell though. i bought both shirts after the gig, although some of the ones outside looked better, and a quarter of a cost. but then again the w h smiths transfers would probably wash off after a week and they apparently had the wrong dates on the back.

scenesfromatheater 10-27-2005 11:38 AM

Da mn chav gave me a XXL instead of a Large shirt outside, I might just hang it on my wall or something.

shamed-angel 10-27-2005 11:40 AM

They played Fatal Tragedy from SFAM on the 1st night in London. That was amazing. They pulled off the backing vocals really well, which sometimes have been quite potch. I spent way too much on merch though Fair dos.

nowitzki 10-27-2005 11:49 AM

I just bought a 20th anniversary tour poster, which is damn cool.
If I had a bit more money right now I would have got some more things, as the official merchandise was all very cool. And I didn't think any of the unofficial shirts outside looked that great, plus they were £10 in London, which is not that cheap for a shirt that's going to be crappy quality.

shamed-angel 10-27-2005 11:51 AM

Did you see the rasta outside shouting "I'll buy any spare tickets."? That would've made my night if I hadn't seen Dream Theater...

scenesfromatheater 10-27-2005 11:53 AM

the person I went with said before we went, "If they play Home for SFAM I'm gonna go crazy". Haha, then he tried to start a pit for it cause it's such a boring song.
Did you see the rasta outside shouting "I'll buy any spare tickets."? That would've made my night if I hadn't seen Dream Theater...
Haha, I thought that at Wolverhampton. There was about 30 people selling tickets before the show.

Did he get shitloads of people just looking at him. Like "What the fuck are you up to mate?" I mean fair enough getting into a song, but getting into a song and spoiling it for everyone else sucks. I think I sung along a bit too loud cause my girlfriend got hella pissed that she could hear me over JLB.

In my opinion that's probably the only song on Scenes From A Memory that I would call great. There's some other good song ('Fatal Tragedy', 'The Dance of Eternity', 'Finally Free') but 'Home' is alot better than the rest for me. In fact, it's probably my second favourite track (behind 'Scarred', which everyone else ignores for some reason).

No, but I saw a tout in the shopping centre in Hammersmith who then somehow appeared again outside the Apollo a minute later. I have no idea how he got there that fast

shamed-angel 10-27-2005 12:00 PM

Well you got there that fast... he probably walked at the same velocity in the same direction as you?

Scarred is amazing. That bass intro never fails to chill me to the bottom of my spine.
My favourite song on SFAM is definately One Last Time, the piano is just so beautiful.

I agree Home is amazing, I don't understand why scenesfromatheater doesn't like it

and Scarred is excellent, easily my favourite song from Awake :thumb:

Yeah but he was just standing there both times asking people if they were buying/selling tickets.

shamed-angel 10-27-2005 12:03 PM

He probably just knows the place better than you.

scenesfromatheater 10-27-2005 12:04 PM

Why does anyone care?

shamed-angel 10-27-2005 12:05 PM

Because he's doing good work, trying to allow as many people as possible into a DT show...

nowitzki 10-27-2005 12:06 PM

Yeah, and ripping them off and making a profit at the same time...

scenesfromatheater 10-27-2005 12:06 PM

Isn't he also stopping people going in though, when it is sold out and he's bought loads of the tickets?

shamed-angel 10-27-2005 12:09 PM

Why the hell would he just buy them? He buys them with the intention of selling? He doesn't just like the taste of the paper...
