What do people think of the Final Cut? There is absolutely no talk about it so I only recently heard of it through a discography.
|
It's pretty much Roger's album.
Think of it as a concentration of the emotions in the first half of the Wall, Disc 1. |
Ok. Ill have to get the Wall still. If id only known that $42 was a good price.
|
Pompeii is definently worth the money.

The Final Cut is my least favorite Album. I have it on vinyl and i freaked out when i found it (before i heard it). and halfway through listneing to it i was like "man this is crap". and since then i have only listened to it 2 and a half times. I think it is missing the feeling of a PF album, because Roger pretty much stunk it up. Altough A Momentary Lapse of Reason (pretty much a Dave solo) was a decent album. |
The Final Cut is a VERY good album. Waters' father was killed in WW2, so this is kind of a dedicated to him, and The Wall was about how he felt growing up.
The Flethcer Memorial Home has a relation to his father. It was, I think his dad's either middle name, or first name. My dad has a TFC on a record. Infact, that's what got me into Floyd. He told me to download the songs and burn it. |
Yes, its very good.
I prefer animals, and meddle to WYWH. I just feel tracks 2 and 3 on WYWH really drag the album down, whereas the only parts of animals i don't like is the first half of dogs, and all of meddle is great except maybe san tropez.
Haha  Your are the exact opposite of me. Welcome to the Machine and Have a Cigar are my favorite tracks on WWYH, the first half of Dogs (through the first solo) is my favorite part on Animals, and San Tropez ranks just behind Echoes for me. That just goes to show how different peoples tastes in music are. |
Unlike everybody i know, Have a Cigar is my least favorite song on wywh. Im still debating if its my favorite album though, and im still deciding whether to learn it in its entirety on guitar.
|
i think theres obviously a huge difference between liking a song least on an album and not liking a song
with that being said, i like welcome to the machine least on wywh |

Yeah but the worst song on WYWH is better then most songs. I say their best cd is A Saucerful of Secrets. I think the band works amazing together on that album, and its the only one to feature all the members. Speaking of Saucerful, I know I asked before but does anybody know who wrote the guitar for Set the Controls For the Heart of the Sun? Because I have a pre Gilmour days bootleg (Syd's Sugercube) and Set the Controls is on there. So did Syd write the guitar? |
Of course its not near my least favorite song, just my least on the album.
I have no idea who wrote guitar part for Set The Controls...I could imagine it was Syd, since gilmour just popping in out of nowere and making something like that in so short a time, along with the other songs. The only debate could be the style how its played - like, i could imagine Gilmour writing (the song) Saucerfull of Secrets, since theirs so many effects and slide in it, but not like jugband blues (which he didnt) who knows, maybe Syd wrote most the album, and Gilmour just gave it that edge |
who knows, maybe Syd wrote most the album, and Gilmour just gave it that edge
That may be it, I mean it seems more Sydish then Gilmourish on a lot of songs. Probally Gilmour just played it on the album after learning Syd's. |
is money that hard on bass?
|
Well i dont know were money comes out of this...but its an easy riff. My friend tells me the whole song is easy on bass, but i know all the bass parts except for during the solo.
|
Just wondering to all you bass players out there, is One of These Days hard? I've always wondered.
|
Just wondering to all you bass players out there, is One of These Days hard? I've always wondered.
I'm not a bassists, but I am listening to that album right now (its playing a pillow of wind). I'm not sure about the actual difficulty, but, the song uses a slide on bass and some wierd effects made by playing the slide directly over the pickups. Daves slide solo is awesome, though. Do you know that the "I'm gonna cut you up" line is actually Nicks voice slowed down and lowered (he has a very high voice) and is his one and only vocal appearance in Floyd |
You know Pink Floyd used to be called The Pink Floyd. I don't know it just dosn't have the same ring to it when you add the the.
|
You know Pink Floyd used to be called The Pink Floyd. I don't know it just dosn't have the same ring to it when you add the the.
and prior to the they were called the pink floyd sound. If you see a picture of the case for the single 'See Emily Play" it says, "The Pink Floyd Sound" which is because the name is based on blues players Pink Anderson and Floyd Council, so they were trying to get the "Pink Floyd" sound |
What is the instrument used to create that sound after the guitar break in Corporal Clegg? It kinda sounds like a kazoo.
|
What is the instrument used to create that sound after the guitar break in Corporal Clegg? It kinda sounds like a kazoo.
That is what I think |
Did Pink Floyd ever do drugs? (other than Syd)
I debated it with my freinds and we didn't come to any conclusion. |
I think they did. I mean look at some of the abstract lyrics some sort if drug would have been involved in that.
|
Did Pink Floyd ever do drugs? (other than Syd)
I debated it with my freinds and we didn't come to any conclusion.
I'm pretty sure they all have done marijuana, but they didn't do it all the time. I was reading an interview where Roger was talking about it. Two guys used to smoke marijuana, and the other two would just drink. I don't remember who though. And that is a kazoo on Corporal Clegg. |
Their also the top choice for most stoners.
|
They all did weed, and Syd and Nick (?) drank heavily, I think.
I think Roger reported that he had tried the heavier stuff, but the others didn't touch it. We talked about this a while back, I think. |
Did they ever try acid with Syd?
|
Probally have tried it.
But probally didn't like it, and didn't continue using it. |
Did they ever try acid with Syd?
I think Roger may have. I also heard Nick did a lot of coke. |
They might have done drugs, but I do not think it was very heavy influence on their music, contrary to popular belief.
|
Wish You Were Here was good, but it did not have that much harmony. My favorite Pink Floyd Album has to be either Animals or Dark Side of the Moon. I really just hate how people only like Dark Side of the Moon. You can't call yourself a Pink Floyd Fan if the only album you heard was Dark Side of the Moon.
|
They might have done drugs, but I do not think it was very heavy influence on their music, contrary to popular belief.
Yeah I think some of their fans may do more then they do/have. |
Yeah I think some of their fans may do more then they do/have.
Truth. |
Yeah I hate the steryotype that you need to drugs to enjoy Pink Floyd. I mean their music is relazing so its nice to listen to and chill, but its not better. Same thing with the Wall. Its fun to watch high because you freak out, but I have never thought up any new ideas about the moive while watching it high.
|
The best Pink Floyd song is "The Trial" or maybe "In The Flesh" because "The Trial" is a good story and "In The Flesh" talks about killing queers, coons, reds, and Jews. Also, "The Trial" has that awesome heavy riff that appears many places on "The Wall."
|
I dont have a problem with people listening to it high, but get offended when they say its only enjoyable when your high.
|

Uhhhhhhhhh just to be sure you know hes being satirical on that, I mean I know thats probally not it but I've talked to a lot of people who thought he was serious. I prefer the first In The Flesh on the first cd, its fun to listen to before going to a concert :p |
That riff on In The Flesh is sick for being so basic. You can never play it loud enough.
The Trial is actually one of my favorite songs on the album...i dont know why, theres just something about it i love |
I dont have a problem with people listening to it high, but get offended when they say its only enjoyable when your high.
Yeah I can't see how some people can just dissmiss the pure art that their work is by saying that. But I find that most people who say that are just smoking to be cool, so they just stick to the steryotypes, and those people are very annoying so I don't usually deal with them much. |
Just listened to The Wall again, it never gets old. Such a classic album.
Who else in here thinks that The Wall was better than DSOTM? I know I do.
That riff on In The Flesh is sick for being so basic. You can never play it loud enough. The Trial is actually one of my favorite songs on the album...i dont know why, theres just something about it i love
The Trial is an excellent song, but the best song on both discs is "Hey You", in my opinon. |
I appreciate the wall for its greatness, but isnt near my favorite floyd album. Maybe because it doesnt have the same feel as all their 70s albums?
