I didn't find it very interesting. It's good and it has it's moments, but it just comes out as an average piece of work. Not the kind of album that I would expect from floyd after what they had been through.
you can't expect them to still be at full steam after 40 years
they've done fantastic work and well...a hell of a career.
every album's got something to offer

I know that, but what was said before, it's nothing special.

I do however look forward to getting The Division Bell.

Riva 11-07-2006 06:17 PM

To be honest, The Division Bell and A Momentary Lapse Of Reason are both tied in the mediocrity stakes for me. I still really enjoy listening to them both, however.

Delicate Sound Of Thunder has better version of the songs from AMLOR. I <3 Learning To Fly.

rippa32 11-07-2006 08:20 PM

I did listen briefly to Division Bell a while back. To me it doesnt sound like Pink Floyd. It could be because Roger isn't in it but im not sure.

It doesn't much.. A couple songs do, like Marooned, Wearing The Inside Out, High Hopes,.. Yeah, that's about it. But it's a good album musically. Some of my favorite Gilmour work is on that album... High Hopes, Keep Talking, Coming Back To Life, Marooned, Wearing The Inside Out.. Good guitar work on them IMO.

Probably my favorite solo from Gilmour is On The Turning Away.

MattSharpIsCool 11-07-2006 10:35 PM

"High Hopes" is one of my favorite Floyd tunes.

As is "On The Turning Away"

"Learning To Fly" doesnt do it for me though.

Tu Se Morta 11-07-2006 11:04 PM

mmm the Pulse dvd is really good, with billy corgan talking about them and playing Wish You Were Here with them. so great.

Riva 11-08-2006 12:14 AM

Blasphemy! Have you heard Learning To Fly on DSOT?!

MattSharpIsCool 11-08-2006 12:17 AM
Blasphemy! Have you heard Learning To Fly on DSOT?!
Nope.

But I saw it on Pulse, and its just kind of a "meh" song.

A lot of Guy Pratt's bass lines are extremely boring on CD, I've noticed.

Riva 11-08-2006 12:23 AM

Bah, if you haven't heard it on DSOT, you are no longer able to conclusively offer your opinion on the song. Honestly, even on the album it was no where near as good, but they hit it just right on that tour.

MattSharpIsCool 11-08-2006 12:26 AM

Ok Ok I'll try to download DSOT.

/goes

EDIT: So I listened to it on the live CD. It does sound better than the studio version, but its not really all that different.

rippa32 11-08-2006 05:27 AM

Okay I downloaded Marooned, and it sounds very much like echoes, which isn't a bad thing of course. I prefer echoes but this is still very good.

Riva 11-08-2006 07:44 AM

It's still one of my favourite Pink Floyd songs. Learning To Fly, that is.

Marooned is fairly nice, too.

Jimmy 11-08-2006 09:42 AM

Division Bell doesn't do it for me at all. Learning to Fly is better than High Hopes in my opinion, but neither post-rogers albums are very good at all. They've got a few good songs, but as albums they're severely lacking.

Montana 11-08-2006 02:05 PM

I've liked every version of Learning To Fly that I've heard. It's a classic song in my opinion and I also think MLOR is an excellent album. On the Turning Away, One Slip, Learning To Fly; all great tracks.

Wet Dream is such a fitting title for Rick Wright's album. I'm really loving those tracks from the Daily Upload, especially Pink's Song and Waves. All of the piano is just beautiful. :)

Yield 11-08-2006 08:06 PM

I agree with riva. Although AMLOR is not my favorite album, Learning to Fly is one of my favorite songs.

Learning to Fly just doesnt really sound like a Pink Floyd song to me. It's pretty upbeat and poppy, which isnt a bad thing, its just so completely different from Roger's style of writing.

High Hopes just has that darker sound.

Eh, maybe it will grow on me. I still havent really listened to their last two CD's all that much, so who knows.

Jo Shoe Wah 11-09-2006 07:55 AM

Hey, i haven't posted in here in a while but should be more often from now on (exams/start of year 12 is settling down :)).

I think i'll be going to see Roger in Sydney, i don't think i can pass this one up :p , anyone else seen him in recent times/going to see him in this tour? How was it?

Collis 11-09-2006 09:44 AM

I just got tickets to see Waters in Manchester next May ... it is expensive but I aren't gonna get the chance to see him any cheaper :(

NP: Fearless

magicbus 11-09-2006 11:36 AM

Collis, how are you liking Lateralus? I think it's fantastic, really prog influenced.

Did you catch the SOYCD part in "The Grudge"? It's at 7:48...

Yeah I really find it fantastic; and no I haven't noticed the SOYCD thing. I think the only parts I dont like is the 'screamy' (is that a word) bit of Ticks & Leeches, although the drumming in that song is awesome.

Anyway, we in the wrong thread here? :p

magicbus 11-09-2006 11:58 AM

Yea "Ticks & Leeches" comes off as pretty aggressive, but I've gotten used to all that in my other metal listenings.

I really like the cooled down, atmospheric part of that song though.

And I think it's alright, I knew I could find you here, and Tool has claimed Floyd as one of their bigger influences :p

Exact same thing i'm thinking, i'm hoping it will be well worth the money though :)

robo2448 11-09-2006 06:39 PM

'bus I downloaded the Tool too since you've talked about them so much. Haven't listened to it yet though. I'll get around to it eventually.

I like Learning to Fly a lot. It's a great song. I actually don't own AMLOR so I'm just judging from DSOT and Pulse versions. I also agree with Riva that the version on DSOT is better than the version on Pulse but they're really pretty much the same. On the Turning Away from DSOT is amazing though.

Yield 11-09-2006 09:58 PM

Hmm, I'm thinking of what album to get next. Atom Heart Mother, Division Bell, or Ummagumma. I might just get Pulse or Live at Pompeii.

Apocalyptic Raids 11-09-2006 11:29 PM

I'd got for Live At Pompeii out of those, although I don't have a few of the others you mentioned.

MattSharpIsCool 11-10-2006 01:08 AM

I finally bought Meddle and Animals yesterday.

I'm not really too big on Animals yet, but I havent listened to it much.

Meddle, on the other hand....I love it.

PsychoTronn 11-10-2006 01:22 AM

i like meddle, it starts off really cool

Apocalyptic Raids 11-10-2006 01:28 AM

One of These Days is one of my favourite Floyd songs. Meddle is my second favourite Floyd.

FatalEnergy 11-10-2006 02:48 AM

Animals is my favorite. Dogs is probably me favorite song, with High Hopes closely behind
