I'll still be suprised, I guarantee it.

clayman112388 06-29-2005 10:48 AM

Yeah, lol, I just cannot wait for Ghost Reveries, the title still makes me laugh, lol.

Deth 06-29-2005 10:49 AM

I like the title all right.

Lateralias 06-29-2005 10:52 AM

I thought the title was a bit funny at first.. but then I saw the awesome cover and it changed my mind.

bucket 06-29-2005 10:55 AM

I want my first impression of the new CD to be a low quality rip? Even if it was high quality, I still would regret* downloading it. I want the whole piece pie to eat at once, not just a taste of the apples. In this case the apple was a bit moldy :-\

That probably made about as much sense as when I posted about the GnR dieing cat thing. Best logic ever if anyone recalls it.

:)

I don't have a problem with downloading music or seeing if I like something, but in Opeth's case I know I want to buy anything they release so downloading a song from an album I don't have will ruin the first listening experience.

edit:

* not really regret, but I would prefer to have not downloaded

clayman112388 06-29-2005 10:56 AM

I like sampling, cause if a weak sample wows me, imagine the actual thing....

RouteOne 06-29-2005 12:00 PM

I bought Orchid today. All I can say is that I got shivers down my spine at certain points of the songs. Awesome album.

BTW: Why do some of you guys dislike the name of their new album?
I STILL don't have MAYH or Still Life.

I ordered Still Life about 3 months ago, but they can't get it in stock, and then I ordered MAYH at centurymedia.com, and they were out of stock :-/.

Not cool.
I walked into a bookstore one day looking for an Arcturus CD that I wanted, and they had it so I started to leave, when I saw Opeth Still Life. So I grabbed it instead.

Long story short, I have Opeth Still Life and you don't :p

Taste_My_Scythe 06-29-2005 12:14 PM

I'm a huge Opeth fan, but I only have Blackwater Park and Morningrise. Both awesome albums.

Demon_Hunter_II 06-29-2005 12:17 PM

I have all Opeth CDs, and my current favorites are MA,YH and BWP. Both amazing albums.

:amaze:

You didn't get both? Which Arcturus cd was it?

Lateralias 06-29-2005 12:35 PM

You know you can order Still Life AND MAYH off amazon.. cheap too.. that's where I got mine.

Same here, SL was $4.50 and MAYH was about $3.25...great deal, they were used, but they looked and sounded perfect.

Deth 06-29-2005 12:47 PM

I don't have an account on Amazon, but I should probably sign up.

I've found another place to order Still Life, so now it's just MAYH.

Jude 06-29-2005 03:50 PM

I like Opeth's guitar parts and the clean singing is good, but the growling kind of gets on my nerves. However I got used to In Flames vocals so that's not such a big deal. The main thing that puts me off them is the way their songs drag on. They don't really have that much variety in their sound from what I've heard of them, and their songs seem to stretch on forever when they could be 6 or 7 minutes-and instead they're 12 or 13. Do they have any songs of a more moderate length?

Dr. Jake Destructo 06-29-2005 04:25 PM

Hey guys. I just picked up Blackwater Park yesterday, and so far, it's amazing. I'm listening to Dirge for November. The intro is so beautiful. I'm sure you guys have heard it all before, but every member is so talented. I have a few questions though.

Does Mikael do the solos or Peter Lindgren, or do they sort of split the duty?

and also, how are the covers coming along?

Jude- Sweet user title. I love that song.

Darkness 06-29-2005 04:27 PM

The split the solos, but Mike does most.

I bought my copy of Still Life at an indie record store in town. :p *shakes*

Hell yeah...awesome groove to it. Great live track.

If you don't have D*mnation, get it. It's soft guitar parts and clean singing the whole way. The songs are also around 5 minutes. Some more, some less.

I would also download To Bid you farewell. It has several different acoustic guitar parts and then some very nice metal riffs. Also, there's only clean singing again. 10+ minutes

A Fair Judgement is another song I recommend. The begining does start off pretty slow, but around 4 minutes on, it is one of my favorite songs. It has two solos, the second of which.... undescribebly awesome. Again, thew whole song is clean vocals. 10+ minutes

Those two songs were my first Opeth songs I heard. I'd give em a chance if you haven't

Well I thibk you have the best ones. But you should try to get Deliverance. I find the album very soothing.

Glad to see you're a fan Jake! Mikael does a majority of the solos.. but everyonce in awhile Peter has his moments to shine with solos.

Honestly I love the solos better on the Live DVD than on the actual record.. A Fair Judgement sounds beautiful when Mikael begins the second solo!

Deth 06-29-2005 07:58 PM

I love the live version of A Fair Judgement, that was worth the price of the DVD alone.

bucket 06-29-2005 08:16 PM

****ing ****. I wanted to cry last time everyone was talking about the DVD because I have nothing to play it on.

But I have officially converted a person into Opethdom. I will just get them to buy the DVD, which they will or else I will get visibly upset at them. I have let him borrow 6 of my 7 Opeths to be burnt so I'm guessing he'll do me a favor.

We'll laugh, we'll cry, we may even dance.

Sounds like a plan to me.

Best part of the song IMO. Its a perfect ending to that type of song.

Well, I have an audio version of the DVD. I can give it to you if you'd like.
But I'll understand if you wanna see it.

On a four string tuned down or what?

Txus 06-29-2005 08:36 PM
On a four string tuned down or what?
Well I did it in a 4 string bass but in the album they used a 6 string bass i think the tuning i used was: D,G,C,F........it was fucking hard seriously....the only part that i messed up is at 6:02 because two basses play that part at once.
