i just listened to Eine Kleine Nacht Musik for the first time in a while and i enjoyed that. one thing i realized i like about classical music is the volume disparity. it got to a quiet part and my roommate was like "turn it up" but i remembered the loud part a minute ago was as loud as i wanted it to be and though you couldn't really hear what was going on at that point, it's because you're not supposed to. most music makes effort to keep a pretty consistent volume level but yeah. just thought that was interesting. okay back to homewoooooork

This is largely because in the current recorded music climate classical music is one of the only styles that isn't compressed to death. Rock/pop/rap musics all have dynamics, too, but the standard today is to compress the music so hard that any sense of that is gone. Digital audio can only be pushed to a certain level before it distorts, so in order to make things stand out and seem "louder," recordings are compressed an unbelievable amount. What's even worse is that radio stations take this music that's already compressed to its dynamic and qualitative disadvantage, and they run it again through their own compressor. very informative. awesome to be able to see and hear what's actually done to the song's signal. thanks for that. gotta keep this in mind when doing production in the future

Cul de Sac are awesome. Frank Zappa - For Sharleena |
Matmos - A Chance to Cut is a Chance to Cure
Kathy Diamond - Miss Diamond to You Fred Frith - Gravity All pretty good stuff. Kathy Diamond is pretty cool, if you like all that disco soul crap. Maurice Fulton is a pretty sweet producer. I like the solo Fred Frith a lot more than Art Bears. |
Gang Starr - Moment Of Truth - Amazing album, can't believe I've put off listening to this for so long.
Brand New - The Devil & God Are Raging Inside Me - I don't like this album as much as Your Favourite Weapon or Déja, probably cos it's a completely different sound to anything they've done. Then again I've only listened to it a couple of times so maybe it will grow on me. |
The Jazz June - Breakdance Suburbia
|
Mmmmmmmmm I've been digging the new Do Make Say Think album. Really solid stuff. 'Splosions in the sky too. I really wanna see them live again. . .
|

Omar Goodness - F Is For Four-Eyes
idk it's like old Weezer except nerdier. |

Souvaris - A Hat |
The Go-Betweens - 16 Lovers Lane

What's A Hat like? I have it on my laptop and I don't know how it got there. I think one of my housemates just dumped it there for me to listen to.
