What do you feel more comfortable with? Whatever you're faster and overall more comfortable with should be the one you choose. You can really get your fingers going fast (I'll go with the generic example here, but look at Jaco).

But if you feel you need a pick, there's no shame. Picking is simply another technique that some find preferable.

I suggest you work the same part of the song (a fast part) over and over for an hour or so with fingers. Then, do the same with a pick. Whichever you feel you do better or faster should be the one you practice with from now on.

Just a suggestion. Let me know how it turns out.

Hahaha. My friend went to a Harvard v. BC game, and Harvard started chanting "SAFETY SCHOOL! SAFETY SCHOOL!" over and over. It was hysterical, and anyone who knows anything about colleges in the North East knows that BC is definitely not a safety school.
