the last track on Darkthrone's [I]Soulside Journey[/I] has synths that sound really out of place to me

[I]Soulside Journey[/I] doesn't get the respect it deserves imo. I still like their black metal stuff more, though.

yeah idk, it was one of the first death albums I really got into I think I just have a soft spot for it. I didn't really know what to do with [I]ABITNS[/I] at that point.

i like emperor but i've always thought they were the weakest of the 'big' bm bands

edit: though i haven't heard any mayhem other than dmds and im not including gorgoroth in the generalisation

after dmds the only album I really liked much was [I]Chimera[/I]. [I]Grand Declaration of War[/I] and [I]Ordo Ad Chao[/I] were terrible, even if the former had its moments it was just too weird and uneven for my liking

Emperor is weak.

Never got into them. I kind of like that kind of black metal every now and then, but I usually get bored with it after about three songs.

the first two Emperor albums are alright, I couldn't get into anything after though.

Yeah they remind me of Basilisk in that sense, every song is gonna have good/interesting riffs.
