10KD had some good songs but I really hoped for more of a change from the Lateralus sound. It's practically the same except for some of the chugga chugga crap. That's why I like The Pot, because it sounds completely unlike Tool's older stuff.
Actually I think the Pot is closer to their older stuff (pre-lateralus, hell even pre-aenima) than any of the other songs on there because it is a standalone song. Personally I also prefer when Tool just sit down and write standalone songs rather than trying to make things as prog as possible by over developing good ideas (the first wings is completely unnecessary (although the second is great), rosetta stoned is far too long, jambi starts with a great idea and then tries to extend it too far...the intro is fantastic but 4 minutes of basically constant open d chugga chugga is very lazy imo).

On the other hand I think Vicarious is brilliant, it isnt too pretentious but displays all the hallmarks of a great tool song, odd time sigs, huge cresendos, cool interplay between guitar and bass etc.

I loved the whole prog vibe of Lateralus when it first came out but I think I have grown out of it. Now I just want them to get straight to the point sans the filler.
That's all. I asked her to ask him about Puscifer and Adam Jones' projects, but she said he gets all offended when people ask about 'work.'
Hmmm... I'm still having trouble believing it to tell the truth.

EinzingerIsGod 09-20-2006 05:16 PM

Any word on how much time Tool will be taking off other than what is on Toolband? I'm supposed to see them the 29th, so I'm curious if anyone's heard anything.

I have no idea why those emails convinced you.. How hard would it be for her to fake those, I mean, if she already had her mind set on making people believe she shagged maynard

Dr. Jake Destructo 09-20-2006 06:00 PM

1) I know her, she's not that savvy.
2) I doubt she would have any resources to be able to fake a script.

denboy 09-20-2006 06:51 PM

You don't have to have the knowledge of faking a script to forward fake emails.. But ok, if she's a bit dense, I see where you're coming from

btw, did you check out that DAAU link in the dredg thread?

As of now I don't think any other show is off besides the two that are up there (San Antonio  and Madison). I'm sure things will be fine by the 29th but you might still want to remain updated with your radio station just in case..especially if you're traveling out. I didn't find out about San Antonio being postponed until I drove up to the damn venue and saw it on the marquee that day. I'm still really hoping that show doesn't get cut off completely. As of now, it's just postponed..unlike yesterday which was cancelled.

Darkness 09-20-2006 07:08 PM

Yeah, I have a friend who was suppost to go yesterday. He's practically dieing now.

It's entirely too complex of a sham to pull on someone that she doesn't even know that well in the first place. I mean, why would she try and tell me that she slammed Maynard? I've never even hung out with her once, so yeah. It just wouldn't make sense for her to go through all the trouble.

And I tried getting that stuff, but I got impatient. I'll try again right now though.

Should I ever doubt how big Tool are on your side of the pond, remind me of this.

Kage 09-21-2006 04:37 PM

Tool is HUGE over here. I think 95% of the city was at their concert here this past week.

Stoo 09-21-2006 05:44 PM

Do Tool usually have a support? If they do, who is supporting them when they come to Britain?

Kage 09-21-2006 05:52 PM

One instance of Tool's support band is the biggest injustice in the history of rock n roll.
Do Tool usually have a support? If they do, who is supporting them when they come to Britain?
99% sure its Isis, with the 1% being my paranoia that it wont be

Only says special guests on the tickets, so no confirmation there.

Kage 09-21-2006 05:59 PM

Isis is touring with them in the US. I don't know if they're going overseas with them...?

misunderstood 09-22-2006 12:33 AM

I don't think Isis is going to be joining Tool overseas. I may be wrong though. I was just over at fourtheye.net and this is what they have on the front page:
There’s rumours going around on Toolarmy, and also from this link sent to me by Mattias (unfortunately in Italian - translations would be appreciated) which suggest that Mastodon will be the support act for Tool on their European tour. Personally I love Mastodon, so it sounds like a damn good idea to me, but there’s no real confirmation of this yet.
Dr. Jake Destructo 09-22-2006 01:04 AM

I am really surprised at how popular Tool have gotten. They're similar to The Mars Volta in that respect, while on a very larger scale. It just that some of the people who are avid fans are people whom I wouldn't guess would listen to either band.

And yeah, I don't think ISIS are going to the UK. I'll check their myspace for confirmation dates...

Kage 09-22-2006 08:35 AM

Tool and Mars Volta are just huge. It's ridiculous.

ghettoeddo 09-22-2006 08:57 AM

are mars volta really that big? i personaly can't get into them...

Kage 09-22-2006 08:58 AM

I don't like them, but 99% of the teenagers in my school do.

ghettoeddo 09-22-2006 09:00 AM

hmm the kids at my old high school werent' realy into them.

hey kage, did you go to ACL or whatever it's called? my friend was there helping out shouting directions w/ a megaphone or something haha

Kage 09-22-2006 09:01 AM

I didn't, but I have a friend who did. He liked it, but I didn't go because it was expensive and it's not really my kind of music (save for Explosions in the Sky).

ghettoeddo 09-22-2006 09:02 AM

ahh i wanted to see muse. but i dont live in texas anyway.
we're having a conversation in 2 threads.

denboy 09-22-2006 10:42 AM

The Mars Volta are no where near being close to being as popular as Tool

unknownsoldier12 09-22-2006 10:44 AM

definitely...

if you look at the first week sales of both albums, mars volta can't even hold a candle

I believe that the only song he wrote part of the original music for is 4 degrees, with the instrument he plays at the begining. Read it in an interview once, he said he was much more of a reactionary artist, who reacted to pieces of music and could write melodies to fit them, rather than coming up with the original riffs.

Always good to have someone like that around.

Seriously, UK = Europe. That is so friggin awesome, I cannot wait now
The Mars Volta are no where near being close to being as popular as Tool
I know, but what I meant was that it surprises how mainstream they both are, that's all.

Tool + Mastodon = yay for the UK

I'm not sure if I prefer ISIS to them or not...Either way, Tool gets some seriously badass openers it seems like.

holy crapper - There is a chat like once every five years, and you need to be a member of The Collective Concious to participate. (Meaning you need to shell out 90 bucks to be in their fanclub)

Kage 09-22-2006 01:16 PM

Fanclubs are incredibly stupid by rule.
