Is Brain Damage by Pink Floyd about drugs?

IAJP 04-08-2005 02:55 PM

A Kinks fan!
*High Five!*
I think that Village Green Preservation is one of the best Brittish albums ever.

Only 5,000 copies of that original album were sold in America, and my dad and his friends accounted for ten of them.

It's about Syd Barret.

JonG 04-08-2005 03:23 PM

Isn't Skynyrd - Needle and the Spoon about some members of the member that OD'd on heroin?

Does Dazed and Confused have some sort of drug relevance?

Dazed and Confused is mostly about women I think.
Just a note on the Comfertably Numb thing, it may also be about herion too. In the Wall commentary Waters said that during the Animals tour he was sick and to get him to go the the show he was injected with somthing by a docter and he had to play the show. I think he may have been in withdrawl and was injected with heroin, but thats just a theory.

And according to the lyrics of the Wall, Pink was on heroin hence him having those "swollen hand blues"
But Roger didn't write the lyrics to the song, Dave did.

Edit: And he based the song on a visit to the dentist.

In "The Wall", when Pink's wall is complete, he gets depressed and stays in his hotel room, and OD's on heroin,(I think). They send a doctor up to his room and inject him with something which supposedly brings him back to life, but it brings him back as a nazi-facist dictator instead of a rock star.

Weird. I know.

lunch998 04-08-2005 04:52 PM

Disraeli Gears should qualify, even though none of the songs are specifically about Drugs.

So did any of your parents get a chance to see any good bands back in the day?

MalcolmYoungRock 04-08-2005 05:12 PM
What a terrible plot twist.
Yeah, blame Roger Waters for the concept.
So did any of your parents get a chance to see any good bands back in the day?
My Dad saw a lot of bands.

Cool story about the Dead in NY: They had two friday night shows at the Fillmore East(8:00PM and 11:30PM or something), played until about 4:00AM, went to Connecticutt to play an afternoon show at 2:00PM, came back to NY to play the same times on Saturday night. The 11:30 show ran until 5:00AM when the Fillmore closed, and they set up in the street and played until the cops busted it up.

Mom saw Zeppelin, Dad saw CCR.

ATM 04-08-2005 05:13 PM

Yea my dad saw a lot of bands too. The concert he talks about most is Zappa/Beefheart.

I heard Pink Floyd tickets would sell out in minutes.

My dad has been to tons of shows. Most notably The Dead in '81, and he's been to countless ABB shows.

Badmoon 04-08-2005 05:23 PM

Guess who's playing for free at the Taste of Chicago?

Creedence Clearwater Revival
Lynyrd Skynrd
Carlos Santana
