Fair enough, one of their most requested songs I'd say. Have to make it interesting after 25 years :p

Bazarov 07-17-2006 10:29 PM

INNOCENCE TORN FROM ME WITHOUT YOUR SHELTER!
Dyers Eve is most def my fav. Metallica song.

Heavy Metal Kid, you're going to Slayer this Thursday right? I was wondering if you'd like to meet up there.. That may seem odd. But yeah, just to say hi or what not. That is, if you're going...

Stormrider 07-17-2006 10:38 PM

Dyers Eve is great. Not my favorite Metallica song though.

Yes, I'm going and it would be nice to meet there, the only problem is where. It wouldn't be hard to recognize me, I'm 6' 2''(probably the only mexican with that hight) and I will be wearing a South of Heaven shirt. There's a pic of me in the R&M album thread.

Bazarov 07-17-2006 11:07 PM

Well, I'll most likely be wearing my leather jacket... um yeah, there's a picture of me in the photoalbum as well, I guess I'll just keep an eye out for ya.

heavy metal kid 07-17-2006 11:09 PM

Which one are you, the guy with a cap or the long haired one?

Nostalgia 07-17-2006 11:12 PM

Wow, Barbie, I didn't know you batted for the other team.

Bazarov 07-17-2006 11:20 PM

The long haired one...

Oh crap, on the topic of Metallica, I found my Ride the Lightning CD today in my garage. So happy.

um... if you're comfortable.. here's my email. Dervater100@cox.net and I guess I can email you my phone number or something.. if you have a cellphone, that way I can just tell you where I'm at.... or where you're at.

And Austin, when I go up to Washinton, I'm going to slap the hell outta you, then have a nice cup of Seattle's fine brewed coffee.

heavy metal kid 07-17-2006 11:22 PM

I haven't listened to RTL in months, in fact a haven't listened to a full Metallica album in months.

Lionheart1827 07-17-2006 11:23 PM

Ahh RTL, my favorite Metallica album.:thumb:

Such a joy to play the songs on guitar as well.

Definately agree with this post.

I'd like to get the intro to FFWF down properly soon, but I'm struggling tbh

It took me a long while because it has a very odd timing to it. I think I remember reading somewhere that they said its "really hard to follow along because of the timing of end of the verse riffs" or something.

Ever try that mid section riff in Frayed Ends of Sanity on AJFA? It's such a pain, I can never get that down.

If you're unsure what im talking about its at 4:04. The way he kinda catches the gallops while switching strings, its so odd.

So crazy.

Chu 07-18-2006 04:19 AM

Well, I've only briefly gazed at the song ...AJFA and Blackened, never tried to play them though...

I really like galloping triplets, like Battery.
I spent so long trying to get them, I can get them fine these days (I don't know if I would say 100% accurate, but high 70s at least).

Jev 07-18-2006 06:11 AM

Man, the main riff of blackened always gets me :p

metallicaman8 07-18-2006 07:55 AM

I've been having some trouble with the second solo in MOP...so, I made my own tab for it. It's sounds about as good as the version in the tabs and is much easier to play.

highwaysalmon 07-18-2006 11:18 AM

Yeah the MOP solo is a b*tch, i had problems with the beginning part at frist. I got 90% of it down pat now, havent played it in a while though, I could never get the part wheres its like..

e|-17-16-14-14-19-17-14-14-17-16-14-14-19-17-14-14-|

near the end. Just need to practice it more i guess. Lately I've been working a lot on the JITF solo, anyone here got that one down?

Jev 07-18-2006 01:04 PM

That's easy.

I make up most of it anyway.

MRDuCran 07-18-2006 03:16 PM
It took me a long while because it has a very odd timing to it. I think I remember reading somewhere that they said its "really hard to follow along because of the timing of end of the verse riffs" or something.
I could never get the timing of that right either. That whole song was annoying to try and play.
Man, the main riff of blackened always gets me. :p
Same here, it's the end bar that I don't know. I've never bothered to slow it down and learn it properly.
near the end. Just need to practice it more i guess. Lately I've been working a lot on the JITF solo, anyone here got that one down?
I could probably do that if I learnt it, but I usually sight read it when I play through it so I have to stop to turn pages and there's parts with weird rhythms and what not.

pep 07-18-2006 06:11 PM
That's easy.

Yeah, i do the same, but i leave some of the best parts of it. I do that on every solo i know. Im way too lazy to sit down and figure a whole solo.

MRDuCran 07-18-2006 08:08 PM

Use tabs then, it's much quicker and easier.

pep 07-18-2006 08:43 PM
Use tabs then, it's much quicker and easier.
I try but its too many numbers. Id rather pick up a song by ear than by tabs, but there are some tricky ones and i have to rely on guitar pro.

THat part is really cool.

Another example of switching strings while galloping is one of the Damage Inc. riffs. Great song.

Blackened is awsome. I never bothered with that last bar either though :p

Soul_Under_Arrest 07-18-2006 08:52 PM
wow, just watched all Some Kind of Monster with Metallica commentary. Quite a bit of neat stuff that they talk about.

BTW. I think James should come out with some sig 7 string explorer or something. Well maybe not an explorer.
James has a 7 string ESP F series. Kirk has a KH-2 in 7 string form as well. Both using EMG 707s.

clown_phobia 07-18-2006 10:09 PM

What do you guys think of S&M? I think it's really good, all the songs sound really good and the orchestra makes most of the songs sound a lot better. some are worse in my opinion but they're still great songs.

heavy metal kid 07-18-2006 10:13 PM

The only song I think it was better was TTTSNB.
I didn't like the whole Load/Black Album songs in it, probably because many classics were discarded from the set list.

MRDuCran 07-18-2006 10:24 PM

Seriously, tab isn't hard. Just get used to it and it's an amazing tool. I know people say it's bad for your ears but I spent my first 2 years working stuff out and I still work out Children of Bodom keyboard solos but there's no harm in using them.

I love that album, although they missed a few necessary songs. I actually did I review for it.

heres a link if you wanna check it: http://www.sputnikmusic.com/album.php?reviewid=8203

from what ive heard of it hetfield's vocals get a bit annoying

metallicaman8 07-19-2006 12:58 PM

I don't find them to be annoying in the least, but I suppose some might.

Jev 07-19-2006 01:36 PM

Hetfield's vocals are good on S&M.

Sadbutrue16 07-20-2006 02:18 PM

Hey whats up all....last night i went to the unholy alliance concert...(thine eyes bleed, children of bodom, mastadon, lamb od god , and SLAYER) was ****ing insane. It was the one in San Jose.....was packed full. The whole place was moshing and i went crowd surfing lol. Slayer was good and all but they dont have to prove anything with their live performances anymore...they pretty much played songs back to back. I liked the other bands live cause they would talk to us and stuff. Slayer had cool light shows and graphics though. Thought i let you all know how cool it was ;/

Jev 07-23-2006 09:47 AM

No news in the Metallica thread, eh?

E_man 07-23-2006 10:18 AM

With the fact that with the entrance of Bob Rock the instrumentals went out the window do you reckon Rick Rubin might, MIGHT, bring a good return to the MetallicA instrumental? I know James has said before that they don't need them 'cos they have words for them now (bleh) but is there some hope? Especially for us bassist since Robby T would almost certainly do the track proud.

Jev 07-23-2006 10:27 AM

A new bass solo along the lines of Jungle Essence on the new album would be awesome.

That's the same thing I was hoping for a while ago!

I love Metallica instrumentals.

Nepenthe 07-23-2006 05:14 PM

Considering the current state of James' voice, I wouldn't mind the entire album being instrumental.

highwaysalmon 07-23-2006 05:57 PM

wow, i just listened to The Call of Ktulu for the first time in a long time. I never realized how ****** eerie and awesome it is. It sounds so haunting

Lionheart1827 07-23-2006 06:04 PM
Considering the current state of James' voice, I wouldn't mind the entire album being instrumental.
Did you hear his voice during Rock Am Ring 06 last month, when they performed the MoP album in full? It was much better than it was previously, thats for sure.:thumb:

Chu 07-23-2006 06:11 PM

Still pretty bad though.

victim of changes 07-24-2006 09:03 PM

Not too bad, well thats one of the things Rubin speacializes with, vocals, as well as drums, so yea.
